Thanks Clay, always some of the best lessons/videos out there. This video gave me a great visualization/realization about the golf swing. For whatever reasons, various instructors from years long past talked about the golf swing such that it followed an arc like a pendulum...in directly it made me think of kind of an inverted catapult I probably misunderstood their descriptions! but was not aware how wrong I was. What your visual made clear is that the swing is like a "compound pendulum" more akin to a trebuchet, where a rotation feeds another rotation, which feeds another rotation, etc, creating a compounding effect. So while the club head might follow a smooth arc, the mechanism driving it is a series of arcs. I took that visual (where one rotating body is accelerating another rotating body) to the range and my swing improved almost instantly. It helped me better conceptualize (and feel) lag and the way hips, shoulders, arms, hands and club flex all contribute to the swing. It also helped me understand how a perceived "slower swing " allows the club head to accelerate later in the swing using all the points of roataion....like a compound trebuchet. Thanks a ton...this one video fundamentally changed my game.

That’s exactly what my problem is! Im not exaggerating when I say I slice my driver 50 yards to the right every single time.. I’ve tried so many things and still can’t seem to hit a straight ball

Thanks for this video, Clay! I love the idea of the handle moving up and in so that the clubhead whips. I feel that this an underrated part of the swing that most beginners and high handicappers don't understand. This is a very different intention as opposed to trying to use the right hand throw the clubhead at the ball or trying to use the clubhead as a shovel. I hope to hear more about this concept in particular because I feel it would help a lot of people, not only with driver, but controlling the low spot with irons and wedges. I also use a very slight and subtle upward motion of the handle in the putting stroke. It always works. Thanks again.

So I have a random question about lessons.. I'm a pretty good golfer, no pro or anything but I know exactly what to do to hit a good shot with any club, if you were teaching someone how to golf, what part of the game would you start with?

I literally had a lesson, stuck at a 12 handicap and wanted to just be longest guy in group so I told the instructor I want Clay Ballards swing!

I hit about 20 shots at the pga store the other day, I hit 2 centered that traveled relatively straight and 295 but my miss hits were about 280 which is almost as far as I got my average 3 wood so I'm not sure if I should just avoid my driver cause the odds of me actually hitting the ball better apparently if slim to none
