I have probably said this to you a dozen times but this is really your best video yet. I'm literal minded so I need precise instruction. When you said, "the swing is 30 degrees out to the right. It’s the opening of the body that makes it square." a light bulb went off in my head. Thanks again. By the way, I was 2 over today. Some of that improvement is due your you.

I just started playing golf about 3 or 4 months ago. Never played before hand. (With baseball I was never allowed). Now at 30, and wanting to just do something, i broke down and tried it. Even though 13 years ago since ive played baseball, the muscle memory and everything tend to blend. No wonder they told me to never mix the two at a young age. I dont have a lot of time to practice and only played 3 times on the field outside of hitting the range for a hour or two. Your videos are amazing and help me so much into transitioning baseball to golf. I study these videos and try out everything on the range to just get the movement, hips, arms, wrist and hand placements. Keep up the amazing videos and i always look forward to the notifications coming in about a new video. Even if its out of my league, i still watch to try and install it in my swings. #bestcoach

Hey Clay, great video, one of the better ones for sure. The 'Pressure Beater' segment was great, and was wondering if you elaborate on that a bit more. My thought was perhaps you could create a video where you dissect either Finau or Rahm's, or both, since (correct me if I'm wrong) take shorter backswings than most players, albeit generate huge power. I try my best to play the short backswing, and I generate loads of power with driver (300 avg), but struggle with my iron distance, and am consistently coming short in my approach shots due to me playing the yardage I believe I should be hitting in my head.
@TopSpeedGolf5 жыл бұрын
Hi Ryan, thanks for the comment. We'll keep that in mind. Finau and Rahm could both hit it further if they took longer swings. In face, Finau posted a video a while back where he took a longer swing and swung 136 mph. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor

I'm comfortable with the trap draw feeling with wedges into my mid irons, but not so much with long irons. With the ball further up in my stance it's harder for me to feel comfortable coming shallow from the inside and making proper contact with the ball and ground...any advice for this?
@TopSpeedGolf4 жыл бұрын
Don't move the ball up in your stance.
@KnightsB4Bishops5 жыл бұрын
Turning the back of the left wrist towards the ground and letting it supinate the way you showed really is one of the biggest game changers in my experience with your irons. I dont have a lot of success with that with the driver though. Almost have to intentionally not de loft it nearly as much because the driver already doesnt have as much loft, even when I try to stay behind the ball. Any thoughts on that wrist movement with the driver? Does that still work for you Clay?
@TopSpeedGolf5 жыл бұрын
Hi Andrew, yeah, it's the same really. The only difference is that you hit up on the ball. It's hard to say exactly what you're issue might be without seeing your swing. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor

Something else I would like to ask. Is it possible to put out a video that shows how to play shots from uneven lies? Uphill, downhill, or sidehill. The last one is the shot I really struggle with. Conventional wisdom says balls above your feet on sidehill lies will go left while balls below your feet will have the tendency to go right. But for me they do just the opposite. At my local club we have a hole that almost always gives me a lie where the ball is severely below my feet by almost a foot and when I allow for the ball to go to the right by aiming more left of the green, 9 times out of 10 I will get the double cross with the ball going either right where I aimed or even more left. I am RHed. Thanks

Hi clay. Thanks for the tips. One thing I struggle with is changing from iron swing to driver swing. Going from hitting down to hitting up, I feel like I have to flip my wrists to hit the driver on the up, when I get in a good rhythm of this I then start flipping with the iron's. I can never have it both ways it's compressing nicely with an iron and my best rounds are without a driver. Do you have advice for being able to do both methods on the same day.
@TopSpeedGolf5 жыл бұрын
Hi, the swing between and iron and driver really isn't much different. The only difference is that you hit the ground with shots off the turf and you don't with the driver. You don't want to flip with the driver to hit up on it. This will add loft and spin which is bad for distance. Make the same swing but miss the ground and let the club work up into the ball. The ball placement will be further up in your stance with the ball teed up. Best of luck! Quentin | TSG Instructor

Wondering if you can help me with a slicer's problem: I have a naturally steep angle of attack in my swing. When I try to shallow out the club, my wrists can no longer turn over in time, leaving the face wide open at impact. When I fix my wrist to ensure I'm turning the club over, my swing natural becomes more steep, causing right to left path with a square face, causing the ball to slice. I bow my wrists like crazy, but I'm pretty sure based on videos of my swing that my shoulders come forward as I open up my hips WAY too early, causing a right to left path (righty swing). How do I fix this issue?

When I am having a bad round/week, I switch to #2 for all shots. When I am testing clubs, I use half-swings. If I played for money, it would be with half-swings. Why don't I stick with half swings (like Tony Finau)...I am a golfer :-)
@TopSpeedGolf5 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike, it's tough to get much distance with a half swing. Tony Finau has really good sequencing and build. He actually released a video on his Instagram where he swung longer and had 136 mph club head speed. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
@massspike5 жыл бұрын
@@TopSpeedGolf It allows me to use my hips and legs more aggressively and still make clean contact so I lose maybe 1/2 a club in iron distance and 10-20 yards on my driver. Imho: its a simpler more repeatable move.
@edshort11385 жыл бұрын
Clay, I don't doubt your recommendation for forward shaft lean at impact. But your argument sounds like it is more about compression & distance than it is about avoiding the deadly fat & thin problem pair. Heck, instead of leaning forward the shaft of my 8 iron, perhaps I could use a 6 iron and wrist the club shaft into perpendicular (to the ground) at impact: you disagree and probably for good reasons, but this video is too vague on what those reasons are. Fat & thin are killing my game, not distance issues. Thanks.
@TopSpeedGolf5 жыл бұрын
Hi Ed, the fats and thins are most likely because you release the club early so not getting forward shaft lean. When you release the club early, the club comes in very level with the turf. You can't really hit it very solid unless the ball is sitting up on the grass like it's on a tee leading to thin shots when you don't hit the turf and fat shots when you do. Check out our channel. Clay and I recently released a video about why forward shaft lean is necessary. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
