Hi Simon brilliant drills. I practice against a wall. And you make this ridiculously easy. To those of you who have not tried hitting against a wall. It's hard. What's not obvious is Simon's excellent foot work. This is key to.using these drills.

I went to a tennis academy for 5 years, playing 3 hours everyday, tournaments on Saturday’s and playing extra on the Sundays to get a leg up. Hitting against the wall is one of the best ways to hone in on the fundamentals. If you want to improve fast, watch fundamental of each tennis stroke and practise against the wall. Excellent video

@@TopTennisTrainingOfficial i just recently discovered what in tennis call "deepness" which completely changed my game. Start my swing earlier and hit the ball more front of me possible helped me hit a way heavier ball that reaches opponents base line and also make way less errors. To be honest now i started feeling that i really play tennis! (started 1 year ago). As you can understand i would love to hear your opinion on that! :-) Notis

@@TopTennisTrainingOfficial I've been looking for a nice wall for six months, but nearly all of them are somebody's walls; as soon as I start hitting a ball onto them, an angry person will turn up and stop me. Being desperate, I bought a notorious tennis training kit with a ball attached to a rubber band. It didn't work at all. The action of the ball was so unnatural, it didn't feel like tennis at all. Finally, I found one wall with which I can probably practice volleys only. How about effective lob? Where to aim it and when with what grip? And how to master it on your own.

Amazing! I train like this everyday and its really difficult to get the ball in the same place even in 5 or 3 shoots, because there is only 1 shoot that will give you the ball in the same place and you have to coordinate same efffect, high and distance from the wall. Those who watch this video, dont think its as easy as it is on it. But, at the end i think is the best way to learn tennis. When you go to the tennis court, everything is so simple

Hey Simon - I’ve heard some debate about the effectiveness of the wall, specifically how it can trick you into hitting hard without knowing the real depth of a shot. What do you think are the shortcomings of the wall to be aware of? As you’re demonstrating here, it can clearly be a good practice tool. Thanks so much for your videos, really great work.
@TopTennisTrainingOfficial
@TopTennisTrainingOfficial 5 жыл бұрын
For sure wall training has some downsides. As you say, you don't know where the ball would go on a normal court, however, if you don't hit the balls too hard and focus more on control along with aiming higher than net level etc, it should translate over well to a proper court. Thanks for watching Any lessons you want to see from us in 2020? All the best Simon

@@TopTennisTrainingOfficial Hmm Maybe you already made a video about it but I have trouble with footworks also with knowing how much ''power'' should I return different kind of balls. that would be really helpfull. As, I started playing 1 handed backhand my main issue is footwork.

@MonkeyEngjell
@MonkeyEngjell 5 жыл бұрын
@@abratdarcy it's really an instinctive way for myself. at, first my forehand was really flat and I wasn't using my legs and my hips also, the movement of my racket was linear. Which by watching videos like this I realize I was missing some points. Then I can say now I do have a decent top spin on my forehand and I have more power. It may seem nothing when I explain it but I just can feel it if something is wrong and of course, filming yourself helps a lot. Also, prior to that I was an athletic person. I played football,basketball, martial arts.. so it wasn't like I just started playing a sport. I am still lacking a lot but i can say by hitting the wall I was able to become a better player. sorry for the long response.

I love doing this type of workout in lieu of going to the gym. It's also great cardio. Im lucky in that my local high school installed a brand new practice wall when they upgraded the courts and the public is free to use it when the team is not playing. Most of the other schools/parks near me don't bother to put up a wall like this.

Thanks for the terrific videos. The wall is a great way to practice. Another option is to hit down on the ball into the ground which causes the ball to come off high to practice overheads. How about serving into the wall and then moving in to hit approach shot on the rebound?

Great video, I am amazed not only by the control of the ball, but also by Simon's footwork and balance. His upper body and legs are moving in perfect unison, he doesn't reach with his back on low balls, instead, he uses his legs to adjust, which I guess is the way to go. 👍

Hi Simon! 2 questions if you don’t mind. I love your videos! 1. does the type of wall matter? I think the one at my tennis facility is brick but it does have those lines painted on it. 2. do you have specific racket recommendations for beginners please? I like the way yours looks. At times, I feel my racket is too large or long for my hands or something. Thank you in advance if you reply, xoxo

Hi Sam, I’m using a normal tennis ball, just not a brand new one. Any ball can do the job, however, brand new balls will fly too much and you’ll destroy them very quickly against the wall

I'm trying to improve with each shot, but I find that the ball I use bounces a lot, does that influence being able to have continuity in the shots, and not have to stop every 5 seconds? Maybe I'm still quite afraid to hit the ball and not want to throw it away or to the other side of the wall, because I lose them. Thanks for your advice, and for sharing. excellent video.

Some clubs still have practice walls but you can also use any type of wall that lets you rally against it. I used to rally on squash courts as a junior in the winter when there were almost zero indoor clubs n Scotland, in the summer I would spend my days hitting against a wall in an abandoned building.

Unfortunately none of the tennis clubs on Long Island have walls other than indoor racquet ball courts. I guess those can be used to practice. We have outdoor handball/paddle ball courts but the walls are made of concrete so the bounce off the wall is erratic. Also hard to practice without a line across it to simulate the net. Thanks!
