I think people who are pushing for the Topuria/Islam fight are Max fans who are sour about the loss and are thinking of an opponent that might beat Topuria. Ilia has a long list of killers in his division an he has only 1 defence, why try to rush him to fight the 155 champ so soon ? It doesn't make sense let him rack up some 145 defenses first and on the other hand the fight doesn't make sense for Islam too, it does nothing for his legacy to keep fighting 145ers, he should aim to go up to 170 for champ/champ status and I think even Islam needs 1 or 2 defenses at 155 before he can go up to challenge at 170, the 2 Volk fights don't help him get any closer to his wish of holding the 155 and 170 belt cos in peoples minds all he did was beat up a "145er" and there is debate on whether he really won the 1st fight too so high risk no reward for him to constantly fight 145ers

Islam is in a lose-lose. If he goes up to welterweight, he’s ducking Ilia. If he stays down at lightweight, he’s ducking Shavkat (if he beats Belal which I don’t think he will). What does he gain from that p4p already have it, waste 6+ months of his prime to get ready for a fight to finally beat the guy and all MFS go back to oh he just defended against smaller opponents and it's not considered a defence BLA BLA BLA... Ilia vs Islam makes no sense. Ilia needs to fight at 145 (after Volk, there’s still Diego, Movsar, and Aljamain. Beat 2 of them). Islam also needs to stop fighting featherweights. Beat Arman, and then Oliviera, assuming he beats Chandler, then fight at 170 if Belal loses his belt. And Volk doesn’t really have a say in date/location of the rematch. It’s on the UFC and the champ.
