I was poor as a kid and I spent a huge part of my childhood coveting. Like everything. I wish I was taught this as a child. I could have had so much peace. I teach my children to be thankful now. I thank God.

Great thanks. I think that as we've worked through the Decalogue we've seen as much of Carmen the preacher as we have of Carmen the scholar. I'm definitely for it! Good preaching takes account of the best scholarship and I think that at its best Biblical scholarship is mindful of the needs of Christ's church. If God has gifted one person to do both that's to His glory and to our benefit.

Thank you, Derek. Taking just one at a time has lent itself to preaching and application. :) Glad you've enjoyed the series.

Great one Dr. Carmen. Are you going to do one where you argue your case for dividing the Decalogue in the way you do? I mean with two covet commands. I'm sure many would be interested (perhaps).

I make that case in the video on Exodus 20:3-6!

Do you mean in the commentary? I discuss it a bit in my published dissertation, but I don't know if I included that in the commentary.

really love this i would like to ask you this. madam some people say that the ten commandments are divided into two parts: the first four have to do with our relationship with God and the rest our relationship with other humans. is this biblically correct?

No, I disagree with this assessment. I talk about that in the first video in the Ten Commandments series.

You might disagree with me on celebrity crushes. (I don't think I have a current one 😂.. but you are my fan) But I take Jesus words on adultery as less legalistic (as Ive seen in the Pulpit Commentary plus with cultural understanding) as against "lusting" for a married woman, not women generally, in conformity to the meaning in the Decalogue. Some years ago I remember a famous Poet (AD Hope) rejecting Jesus as a great teacher because of that wider prohibition on sexual desire, which is a natural way of teenagers growing up often. Perhaps you have other thoughts.. Your series on the Decalogue is great

I see your point. However, I wouldn't say that sexual desire is problematic. God created desire. But nurturing sexual desire so that it becomes lust for someone who is not our spouse seems problematic to me, whether or not someone is married. I would define lust as a desire to use someone for sex regardless of relational bond (or lack thereof).
