NOTE.. in no way am I suggesting you only add water on top of the stem to do torch work.. always wrap the valve with wet cloth.
since a lot of these valves get overheated even after people use all of the best practices including wrapping the valve with wet cloth, how can YOU know if you are taking too long?? the water in the stem is just a visual indicator for you to keep an eye on yourself...

I personal wrap valves and flow Nitrogen to keep the txv or exv in some unit..plus reversing valve clean... otherwise..job great 👍

That water sitting ON TOP of the valve is not getting the same heat as the bottom part of the valve where the seal is. All manufacturers tell you explicitly to remove the Schrader valves before brazing so I don't know where you heard they don't. They all tell you to wrap the valves in water soaked rags to prevent damaging the valve cores from the heat of the torch. And yes you need to flow nitrogen while brazing or you risk having flakes of gunk jamming up your TXV or orifice. And the last thing is clean your copper. You need the braze to flow into the cup not just capping the outside. The flame may clean the outside of the cup but not the inside of it causing a problem with flow into it. These 4 things are just good HVAC practices for a better problem free installation and take literally no time to accomplish.

Great comments..all true.. but even though you and I believe best to remove the cores alot of units now actually come telling you not to.. check it out.. Certainly the water doesn't show the internal temperature but if it boils you took to long.. is the point. Read the video description.. the water is a check NOT a method.. nitrogen is great and if I have very long linesets with multiple fittings I'll use it for sure but if we only have a few joints and we are quick I stand behind skip the nitrogen. Yep. Thanks for helping me clear that all up.. video would be misleading to someone who didn't watch and listen to the whole thing

@@Kevin-mm6xm keep an eye on units you install, a warning sticker beside the valves...that said, I still remove them.. I have no idea why some have started saying leave them in?? My best guess is they have lost faith in field torchwork

Yea I started using pro press RLS fittings , still like brazing but sometimes can’t use flames in tight spots .

@@pairofjacks1006 I’m an aircraft mechanic and the aviation industry has been using press fittings for hydraulic lines( 5 k ) psi for decades . It works . Once and awhile they leak . This is the future and will become the norm is they can bring the prices down on equipment and availability to fittings .

Getting me yelled at for this one 😅...Nitrogen flow.. if we are in military or space applications ok but otherwise in my opinion, nitrogen flow is a waste of time and money. A little oxidation dust will be solved in the first 60 seconds of run time. Thousands of systems installed, one compressor failure in warranty period, no nitrogen flow. The drier will handle this just fine, we have enough to do already✌️

I was a little misleading... the water is just a visual indicator so you can know if you may have taken too long and damaged the valve seals..Always wrap the valves with wet cloth first, but even still the valve can get too hot, the water just let's you see for sure.
