this is my favourite scene from the entire Torchwood series. The third series was so dark and intense and when this was going on Jack and the team were close to failing and then this moment happened in the middle of all that confusion and fear this normal conversation between siblings happened and it was just the simplicity and reserved nature of the topic that just made it so powerful and amazing....i love it so much...then when Ianto dies all i could think of was him saying "it's weird it's; just different; it's not men; it's just him; it's only him" gosh i could cry now
@Puzzsta10 жыл бұрын
Beautiful edit for a beautiful scene. "It's not men, it's just him. It's only him." It's a line like this that puts RTD on a whole new level of depicting relationships. It breaks my heart that throughout it all, Ianto never truly knew where he and Jack stood.

I love how everyone thinks people have specific gender attraction. It might be a thing, but so far I'd say you don't fall in love with a gender, you fall in love with a being. Everyone is asking me which side I am on. But I've never loved anyone yet, so how should I know? I find some people attractive, and it's usually not the majority standarts. There was this one star everybody was all about. Considerated a sex symbol. I just wanted to punch him in the face. XD

Louvie some people have preferences and some don’t. Personally I don’t, I just think everyone’s hot but some people can only be attracted to someone they have an emotional connection with.

Perhaps by the 51st century same-sex couples could easily have biological children together, and various extinction level events caused society to frequently be made up of small, occasional single-sex groups, which would give an evolutionary advantage to people predisposed towards bisexuality, and society figured out a way to make its members more and more sexually attractive in order to increase the chances of procreation and continuing the species. Thus anyone from the 51st century travelling back to the 21st would be able to attract any partner, regardless of that partner's prevailing orientation.

@nibnob77 жыл бұрын
I think this scene can really serve as a contrast against one of season 4's problems in that to sate its mainstream American audience, it became so much more rigid in its exploration of sexualities. In the earlier seasons you had characters exploring their relationships with different genders in different contexts and this was very fluid. I feel like season 4 took away so much of jacks sexual ambiguity and made him just "gay" so that he would be less threatening. Just thoughts

Can I just make a shout out for Katy Wix who plays Rhiannon? What bloody brilliant acting! There is so much nuance going on here. I can't tell even after having seen this scene numerous times whether she is genuinely upset that she feels she's been squeezed out of her brother's life, or if she is just being a sneaky sister and pushing his buttons to wheedle this juicy bit of gossip out of him. Just fantastic. And Gareth David-Lloyd is of course wonderful, but he was throughout the series.
@emsicombs8272 жыл бұрын
I totally agree with you, John. We focus on David-Looyd (fantastic) but the way he answers his sister's questions is leaded by the way she speaks and asks. On hr face and in her voice there are plenty of nuances

So... that means that in the TV show, the real episode does not include this ??????? It's just a talk between brother and sister, without the "thinkings" in Ianto's head (given by the black and white images) ??? Well, I supposed I should have guessed that because of the BBC logo staying on the black and white photos, a professional would not have let this. But I suppose I wanted to believe that this was the real scene... So we have to keep it preciously, thinking of the day this video won't be shared anymore ! I just will add my voice to the numerous ones who thank you and I agree with everythinig positive which has been said, including the music (which stays in a background and does not cover the voices, as it often occures in the videos edits) and the fabulous fact that you cut the scene before the entering of the brother. You made a fabulously sensitive work, since the black and white images you introduced are (in my opinion, even if I saw negative comments about them) in total adequation with Ianto's silences and hesitations before speaking : as a matter of fact, we may suppose that Ianto's brain is full of Jack's images. So your photos refer to this. It could have been a real effect the producers could have used. I'm discovering Torchwood (it was time, after 10 years of Dr Who fan practicing, and arriving at my70s) and I was so happy with the idea of this long and fabulous scene (just a bit surprised by the BBC logos staying on the photos, but that was a detail). And now... I'm understanding that this is not the real episode of the TV show !!!! How decived I am, above all learning that the dialog in the show may be shortenedin som versions (as you say further down in on of your own comments) ! Anyway, what a beautiful moment you gave to us, The Zuzak ! A million of thanks to you, and please do let this video in this place as long as possible !

How RTD writes LGBTQ+ relationships: "It's not men, it's just him. Only him." How Moffat writes LGBTQ+ relationships: "Lovely name, Rory. First boy I ever fancied was called Rory. Wait actually, she was called Nina. I was going through a *phase* ." One treats LGBTQ+ relationships as a beautiful thing with so many different variations to compensate for the difference between every person on the planet, and the other refers to LGBTQ+ relationships as nothing more than "a phase".

I love it and never understand why Doctor Who focuses so much on Scotish particularities, and makes so few cases of Wales particularities. We could think the serie is a Scottish one. Apart from Ddrwg ci (here in Brittany we say "Ki droug", almost the same tongue), there is no link with Wales, and I regret it. So I appreciate the Welsh context in Torchwood.

Thank you! I have never been able to find this scene anywhere whenever I wanted to use it as an example in a discussion. Sherlock brought up lots of talks about fluid sexuality, how it's possible to have your switches flipped by someone not your usual gender, like gay Irene Adler and straight John Watson both being infatuated with Sherlock.because he's just all that. I mention Ianto's line all the time: It's not men, it's him. Perfect. Beautifully cut together, too. Love this scene so much.
