Yeah i loved Miracle Day, the conclusion is a bit meh, but everything the series explores is great.
@uosdwiSrdewoH3 жыл бұрын
Me too. I prefer Children of Earth as an overall story because Miracle Day doesn't quite wrap itself up as well. I suspect they decided to run with it because it was too good of an idea not to use and when else would they get the chance to tell this kind of a story in this way. It starts out and all you think about is how nobody can die but then you begin to wonder what the domino effects might be. Nobody dies. Population can only go up. Prisons become not only overcrowded but a life sentence becomes infinite. Resources can't hope to keep up. Then what? It creates so much to think about.

If there's one thing this series does pretty well, it's exploring the initial idea of nobody being able to die, I always thought that was handled pretty damn well in the beginning. It falls apart a little at the end when it tries to explain what the fuck is going on and falls flat, but on the whole the opening at least is pretty good.

I appreciate this series wasn't in the same league as Children of Earth, but the premise is interesting and at times it is a lot of fun, despite its flaws. If you pushed yourself through the trainwreck which was season one, then you can definitely sit through this.

Yeah, season one had a few terrible or forgettable episodes and only a few good ones. The rest were in the middle. This is why I am not sure if I would count 1 or 4 as the worst season. Considering the drastically different styles, they are difficult to compare. Either way, 2 is still my favorite season...

Or I could continue to believe that the majority of hate for Miracle Day is by people that didn't give it a proper chance, and can't take change :D xxx
@ebalao70626 жыл бұрын
I think the majority of fans dislike Miracle Day for genuine reasons. Many had high expectations after the last series which is understandable and this simply means that Miracle Day didn't meet a majority of the fans' standards or expectations. It's fine if people like it (we're all different after all) but Miracle Day is expected to get criticised (and ended up getting panned) because of its Americanization and drastic alteration of what the series was which I think is justified. I mean it's no surprise that people were way more satisfied with Big Finish than Miracle Day.
@MrDylancutter6 жыл бұрын
I was way more satisfied with MD, but then I don't enjoy Big Finish at all. Also, I'm fine with people disliking Miracle Day for being disappointing compared to COE, but there are so many people that say it's awful and not even worth watching, which is simply not true. Just because it's not AS good doesn't mean it's terrible.

I don't think people don't believe in aliens or believe cover ups, it's just because imagine we had alien contact tomorrow, and on tv we all saw alien spaceships or whatever. Even then, if I was talking to someone and they said 'My job is fighting aliens', I would still be like 'Come again?'. So, for me anyway, Esther isn't necessarily shocked to hear about aliens, just that Jack combats them. Just because you hear about something once, doesn't prevent it being shocking if you hear it again.

Miracle day I personally think is pretty good. Also, I don't get this convenience thing Shane's going on about, how everything seems conveniently edited or in place to happen. I mean convenient shit always happens in shit like Game of Thrones, even Star Wars but he never complains about it, so why Torchwood? Also, about Eric saying she was shocked at the existence of the aliens, I don't think she was. I just think she was surprised that Torchwood was an alien hunting institute and the shock value of seeing Jack in the old photos.
@dvader5186 жыл бұрын
In regards to them not knowing about aliens, it takes place in 2011 and The Eleventh Hour explains why they don’t know. Speaking of timeline placement, they got Gwen’s join fate wrong. Starting with Aliens of London and ending with Journey’s End, the present day of Doctor Who was a year ahead of reality. Gwen joined in 2007, not 2006.

I'm not completely sure why it's my favorite I just know I like watching it the most. I think it may be because I love Jack's story in it and I love his vulnerability. Like Captain Jack Harkness is one of my all time favorite fictional characters and to get to see more of his past and to see him stripped of what made him such stand out character and see what is left when knows he can actually die. And a time when basically everyone he loves is dead or beyond reach with the single exception of Gwen Cooper...who has moved on and has her own life now. I just find it extremely fascinating and compelling

9:26 Although people can't die they can still feel pain and can sustain physical injuries. And they would continue to be hungry and thirsty (and it would be worse now since there'd not even be the chance to die and stop suffering). The logic doesn't really work but essentially "whatever parts of your body still exist will continue to be 'alive' " so the blast of an explosion can damage huge amounts of that guy's body but the parts that are left are not technically dead.

Do NOT get your hopes up with this season. I won't spoil anything for you, but you need to be warned that despite the very intriguing premise, this season was not executed as well as Children of Earth. This season was not very well received when it aired and the show was cancelled, making this the last season of Torchwood, unfortunately. As is the case with most shows that get cancelled quite suddenly, this season does not provide the most satisfying ending.

I liked MD it does have some good even great moments but it does have 2 problems which sums up all of the show problems 1. it did not need 10 episodes to tell this arc it allowed for to much BS. 2. the company wanted best of both worlds the dark tone of Torchwood but also a wider audience which just doesn't work as many TV/Movies/games have try and failed to do the same thing

Personal opinion, while I'm not a fan of Children of Earth, it was development in the right direction. No real camp, actual darkness that doesn't feel forced and legitimate tragedy in what happens to Jack and the other characters. This feels like a regression, and a elimination of one of the USP's of the series (Namely, set in Cardiff which for a Welsh person is pretty important,, not many big drama series are set specifically in Wales) and makes it feel a lot more generic. Hope you enjoy this more than I did, though.

the premise is great but it flops when it comes to small details, like rhys holding his daughter towards the chopper shooting at them instead of putting himself inbetween them and how did rex even call for back up and set up an entire ambush while in torchwoods company the whole time or gwen walking towards a gun fight against a chopper that could shoot back at any second for all she knows while holding her baby, if you're gonna write stuff about CIA/ alien spec ops you dont get to ignore the small details it just ruins the show, plus jack was never immortal, he literally dies just doesnt stay dead so the whole premise is actually fucked from the start you just dont realise it until the end of the series

@jackrichardson70206 жыл бұрын
Kayley Hodson I think it’s just because there’s such an over saturation of those kinds of shows. Even when Torchwood was terrible it still had a distinctive tone and style, and Children of Earth managed to be large scale and cinematic without it. The explosions, the American actors and settings, Gwen having the makeup of a movie star. It all feels a touch obnoxious and very much not Torchwood. It’s just that really good, high profile British TV with international appeal (especially set in Wales) is hard to come by, and the Americanisation of this show also coincided with a drop in writing quality, so the two are associated. Also, Torchwood is obviously linked to Doctor Who, literally the most British thing on TV. The Americanisation of that universe in any way is kind of insulting. Thanks for asking, hope I didn’t offend in any way!

I honestly do not understand any of the hate for this series. It is so encapsulating, and it felt intense the whole way through. It has a beautiful way of making this feel real for you, and its incredible. The only moments of levity I had where I didn't feel under pressure were the first 2 or so episodes, and then the flashbacks with Jack in New York in the 20s. I think that most of the hate for this series is just a bandwagon because they took the show to America. People don't give this series a fair chance, especially after the masterpiece that was Children of Earth. But its an incredible series, and my personal favorite, it keeps you enticed in the story all the way through, making you feel like you're there alongside Jack and Gwen and everyone else. It has an interesting and frankly creative way of tackling the way that it is now impossible to die. It also took the next leap, and showed the how it would affect the world overall. I honestly think that Miracle Day was an incredible series and that most of the hate for it is just one big bandwagon. People don't give this series a fair chance, which i think is a crime, considering how good it really is, and how barely anyone knows it.

This specific episode takes place from the 18th - 21st March, which is after the reboot of the universe on the 26th June 2010, almost a year prior to this event. Gwen, Andy, Rhys & Jack remember as they were personally dealing with the aliens and rift energy, it couldn't be erased from them. Bystanders are completely different as they had no impact on the invasions.

I do love the fact they're questioning why Esther doesn't know about aliens, while co-currently watching S5 of Doctor Who :)
