Tori Amos -- Precious Things Lyrics
So I ran faster
But it caught me here
Yes my loyalties turned
Like my ankle
In the seventh grade
Running after BILLY
Running after the rain
These precious things
Let them bleed
Let them wash away
These precious things
Let them break their hold over me
He said you're really an ugly girl
But I like the way you play
And I died
But I thanked him
Can you believe that sick sick
holding on to his picture
Dressing up every day
I wanna smash the faces
Of those beautiful BOYS
Those christian boys
So you can make me cum that doesn't make you JESUS
These precious things
Let them bleed
Let them wash away
These precious things
Let them break their hold over me
I remember
Yes in my peach party dress
No one dared
No one cared
To tell me where the pretty girls are
Those demigods
With their NINE-INCH nails and little fascist panties tucked inside the heart
of every nice girl
These precious things
Let them bleed
Let them wash away
These precious things
Let them break
Let them wash away
These these precious things
Let them bleed now
Let them wash away
These these precious things
Let them break their hold over me
Precious
Precious

Whether you realize it or not, this song is a prayer. It is a prayer of someone asking for freedom from all the little hurts that have accumulated over the years. It a prayer asking for the strength to forgive and move on. I love this song for its rawness and its truth. We all have a thousand small cuts that have devastated us over the years. We need to let them wash away. Let them break their hold over us. Brilliant!

Mary McMullin Great comment! The only thing that I disagree with you about is the forgiveness part. Listening to Tori's lyrics, I don't get the impression that she was in a very forgiving mood. I certainly believe forgiveness is a very healthy and healing thing in general though.

My first time seeing Tori live was the Plugged Tour, and she opened with this. It was otherworldly, as soon as she started playing those first couple notes the audience lost its collective mind. It was one of the most euphoric experiences of my life.

Is it out of place to be turned on by the way she performs??? So much passions just radiates off her...the way she sings so close to the mic, uses her whole body to play her paino, or the way she communicates with the others on stage with her. I thank one of my best friends so much taking me to an Tori Amos concert. One of the most precious things I was allowed to be there live. She is by far the most underrated musician. I would go so far to say that nobody is that gifted not only with such an amazing voice and skills but even with the talent to play, feel, life music. By far the best. But crap is more known by the crowd. But so let it be, she is like a precious diamond not everybody has at home.

Beautiful production brother. As someone that has gone to your shows since my 20’s and rocked your music with you being my favorite underground artist forever it’s been great to see your spiritual journey through music as it’s helped center me in my own experience with the passing of time. What happened to the early 2000’s when I was a young traveler and found my home in the Los Angeles underground hip hop scene… the search for meaning and the sharing of knowledge with consciousness being the ultimate goal and game; serious but f**k so fun..and painful. Going to Project Blowed and hittin the spot in Pasadena for shows. Forever grateful for your music ; especially the journey through the up’s and downs of substance use ; both the vehicle to insight and eventuality. 🏋🏻 Stay up brother and keep inspiring reflection

Saw her for the first time at the Greek in LA September of ‘98...all by myself. I got in a car wreck on the way to the show and had to leave it at a gas station in North Long Beach in order to make it to the show. My radio got stolen over that night too. I wouldn’t give up that night for anything. I was in tears by the end of this song. There by myself but not alone. She was amazing. The fans. The energy. Sometimes I think I survived early adulthood because of that night and the energy I absorbed from her. Thank you Tori. People are still alive because of you.

Paige here -- my favorite thing is seeing live music -- especially original music preformed by it's author(s.) The more intense and heartfelt the better. My favorite all time live artist is Tori Amos. I think it's because she allows herself to become possessed with the song -- and it's a treat to watch! Both Tori and I share a background in fundamentalist Christianity so that also makes me feel a kinship with her tunes -- especially this one.

I must say first Tori Amos is a hurricane of sonic brilliance. from her angst alternative rock elements to her classically poised prowess in her vocals....she is ubiquitous and one of a kind. She reminds me of the brilliant female artistry of the 90s from the pop divas Whitney Mariah Janet and Madonna to the folk singers of Sarah McLachlan Tori amos Sheryl crow Fiona apple apple and the amazing annie Lennox and one more . I knew wuthering heights back.in 2000 when Kate bush introduced it to me....thank you Columbia. House and bmg for allowing me to have their body of work in tangible gratitude.

This is what a true musical artist looks like. She doesn’t sell her body like most female artist do today. It’s very sad how we went from strong power house creative female artist to plastic artist who can’t really carry a tune live and dances in thongs with their booty hanging out for all to see. It’s disgusting how far we have fallen as women.

Who are these recent female artists, and where can I find them?!! I'm still listening to all the artists that you mentioned (plus Fiona Apple 💗) on repeat nostalgically and craving more of that raw and unburdened talent to burn into my soul like it did with those superhuman female artists of the 90's!! Any recommendations for us? 😃

@@Mayflower357 .. for starters, check out Violet Orlandi and Chez Kane (on YT) .. they're not on the "regular" airwaves, but still pretty enjoyable. :)

@@TheMrMused Thanks so much friend, I'm excited to explore these artists! 😀 And for me personally, the majority of the most cherished artists in my collection aren't played on the airwaves (but are quite often the most talented), so no worries there. 😉🥰

Allanis Morrisett, really?? What a joke! Clearly you've never listened to Ani Difranco. Artists like Ani & Tori are in a league of their own. Sorry for your loss. But if you're putting Allanis in the same category as Tori, then you obviously haven't heard true feminist, female music. That's sad in so many ways.

@@brianwrongwayhuberth see, this is KZbin, not a Master's Thesis. The list was neither definitive nor all-inclusive. But, thanks, you know, for your shite attitude.
