I have listened to it over and over on several reviews including one where the video was a combination of you and Karen doing segments of the song and then both of you being dubbed together and I now think the main difference between the 2 of you is the difference between the quality of the recording and the equipment used on the original and by you.

@@jeff-1weere it was me the gave Fil the link. I’ve been trying to have him look at her since November with her B/D Medley. He did reply that it’s difficult to do an unknown. I tried again later with Georgia. I recently joined his Patreon as I’ve been following him for years. So then I misunderstood what he meant by cover and linked this video as the greatest cover of a Carpenters song I’d ever seen and heard. Yup, Ksenia sit down. He left my comment with a ❤️. I didn’t know what that meant until the live stream on Saturday where he mentioned Sunday’s show and an unusual cover. After the stream I saw he left another comment on a post I made. “It’s Sunday’s topic” I literally started to shake. Then watching the view numbers rise. And now episode 2. I squeeled like Tori in her demo video. Not to mention in that over a year old video she shouts out Chris May. He produced her Georgia song. Late last year. Wow! Goosebumps.

I believe the first was a TikTok short practice version but of course your second video was the one I was looking for. I was thrilled that you played the third one that covers her audio engineering. I think you understand now why I mentioned that this was a very special request for a reaction. She is 20 years old from Minneapolis and has quite a following across social media but is still relatively new to her channel. She will be putting out more full versions of these songs, as she has quite a number of shorts right now. I think there are somewhere close to 20. She also is delving into other artists where she has slightly less of a Karen Carpenter sound but still the same vibe. Georgia on my mind is a wonderful performance that is on her channel. Many people are starting to discover her as more of us have started sharing her videos and requesting them. She is definitely a talent that needs to be fully discovered. Tori's voice is Karen Carpenter reincarnated, glad you found the correct version... nothing but smiles with this song. This song started off as a TV commercial in 1970 to promote Crocker Bank of California (a small regional bank.) The lyrics of the song (Paul Williams) were meant to be wedding-themed, and to encourage young people to borrow money for their future. Richard Carpenter loved the commercial and figured his sister's voice would be perfect.... and it was. The Carpenters added a bridge and an additional verse to turn the commercial into an actual song. 😃

...and you haven't seen anything yet. You know that thing she mentioned was giving her a hard time that day, "Pro Tools"? That's an enormous computer application that allows you to input into the computer not only her voice, but any manner of sampled instrument sounds. It's called a sequencer. Oh, and you can't see in any of these videos that she knows her way around a piano keyboard. She's brilliant.

To me the impressive part isn't the mulit-tracking, it's the fact she has the voice to sing all those different parts (range!) and have it sound sweet! There are plenty of engineers who can build up layered vocals but very few singers who can sing all the parts. Also impressed she did this on a Tascam (tape based system) instead of using a DAW, which pretty well rules out any pitch shifting / correction / aka autotune kind of cheating.

I too just found her and was a huge fan of Karen carpenter back in the late 70’s. I pray for her that she will not be corrupted like all the young stars of today. I grew up with her sound and her brother was responsible for the production and follow thru with all the instruments. They made a great team. It's fine that you like Tori better. Believe it or not, there’s a side by side mashup video and on average Tori is lower on this song. Karen can go lower to The Basement. Tori is a couple of steps down the staircase to her. Tori can reach higher than Karen could, and cover Olivia. So the range skews to the side. Look for her short of Never Been Mellow as an example.

I was worried when you had the first video, then you played the big one and YES you found it. It’s on Jim’s channel as he produced it . Tori “only” did vocals on this. Jim and the crew made the music and he did “Richard.” The older man with the glasses is Jim Wilkas. You froze the video as the credits were going to come up. So the chronological order would be, the last video from about 3 years ago and Tori is 17ish, her first attempt at harmonies. Then the first video from last year and Tori is 20. Then the Big video, still 20. Oh in that young Tori video, she shouts out Chris May. Last year Chris produced Tori’s cover of Georgia On My Mind, the Ray Charles classic done in an arrangement Chris created. How’s that for a goosebumps moment in that video, she kinda predicted her future. Last month Jim saw Tori’s Bacharach Medley video and loved it. He felt it needed “more Richard.” So he added himself in a side by side video. That’s what you should play next to get the feel of what’s happening here. I’ll link it for your viewing pleasure. Tori has an amazing voice and if it's possible to channel the incredible Karen Carpenter, the Ms Holub has come as close as possible with her note for note cover. But make no mistake about it, sounding like Karen doesn't make someone better than the original Karen Carpenter. I encourage you to reintroduce yourself to The Carpenters.
