I have an actual theory for this. Tori Kelly has the same vocal coach that Ariana Grande used to have, (It's not certain that Ariana left her) Colleen Ballenger aka. Miranda Sings. Ariana's biggest vocal struggle was her breath, but Tori seems to have no problem. I think Colleen was struggling with being able to teach breath control, so Ariana left her. When Ariana left, Colleen had to figure it out still, so no one else left her, by the time Tori came in, Colleen had mastered it, and that's what she taught Tori. Ariana probably went back to Colleen when she heard Tori, because Focus and her latest live performance sound superior to everything she's done vocally.

I absolutely am in love with this. Listen to it every morning on repeat while i do my make up and sing to my cat. I don't think anybody can top Judy Kuhn, she is partly the reason this song was driven into the hearts and minds of many viewers and listeners her conviction and profoundness when belting out the notes is like she gave the song it's soul. Tori has done a beautiful job and i am glad they gave the song a more gentle twist what it lacks in power it makes up for in beauty.
