I have had migraines since I was in high school and they would last for weeks at a time. When they finally found a med that worked for me I had to carry a note to my classes until I got used to it because the med made me sleepy. I have been on this med now for 40 years.

My daughter & son both have A-typical Hemiplegic migraine’s. My daughter had her first episode when she started her period… 15 year’s old. It effect’s her lower extremities, Her right arm curls up and her right leg points (like she’s in point ballerina shoes)… she losses eyesight in both eyes, her ability to walk, talk and has a period of time where she has a altered mental state. Her neurologist put her on a daily medication to help control her migraine’s. My sons migraine’s are pretty bad too. They effect his vision, mental state, his speech and his ability to open his hand. The main difference between the two… my sons migraine’s are infrequent. I’m sending healing prayers to Tori’s daughter. ❤

Yes, puberty when the hormones are extremely active is a typical time for this type of event to happen. It happened to me at that time too. Thankfully the symptoms & frequency usually eases off as the child gets older.

@@msplacebo-246 my daughter neurologist said it’s like an airplane trying to reach the perfect altitude… once her hormones balance themselves, her migraine’s should lessen. Which is the case for my daughter… she’s 20 years old & her migraine’s have dwindled down to 1 a year.

I read in a health article that Magnesium Deficiency can cause migraines . I don't know if this information applies to Hemiplagic Maigraines ,but the article mentions taking 1,000 mg of Magnesium for sudden acute migraines and 600 mg per day of Magnesium Citrate to reduce the frequency and severity of Migraines.I don't know if this works ,but you could always try it.

I also suffer with hemiplegic migraines and they are awful and scary. You can’t always form words and it does look just like a stroke. I lose all function in my left arm and side of my face. Dialation of blood vessels is part of a traditional migraine, but hemiplegic migraines are hard to treat because they are caused by vascular constriction so traditional medicine for migraines will actually put the patient as risk of stroke and other construction issues. Hope they are able to sort her headaches out! Mine were controlled by hormonal balancing, but I went through 10 years of extensive testing and medication changes to figure it out.

So sad!! I feel your physical and emotional pain, sadness and hope. My daughter was diagnosed with RA n is now having infusion treatment for pain. She also has sjogren’s, fatigue and extremely painful menstrual periods( among other things) As a mom I weep privately for what she’s having to endure now and for the loss of all her specific dreams for her future. Many, many things have changed for her and she literally plans out her days according to how her body is feeling. Still , we are blessed. She got a new less stressful job with better pay and she’ll still be my husband’s health ins for another year. We received our monthly health ins statement and the monthly infusion alone is $15,000. If it weren’t for Ins, We’d be homeless!!!!! Keep on keeping on!! I always include the people of the world that are suffering pain etc.. in ny pryers!!! I know God you is listening. 💕

I’ve had hemiplegic migraines with aura (stroke like symptoms, one side affected) since January 2014 long before Covid. I hope Tori’s daughter grows out of them, finds her triggers, and gets effective treatment plan. She’s so fortunate to be diagnosed early so treatment can begin ❤. This condition is very stressful by it’s very nature. Not to mention how absolutely terrified and helpless family & friends feel when it happens. Imagine having a stroke weekly, every other month or every day. It can leave a person unable to communicate, see, walk, even think normally for an hour up to a few days. Not knowing when those senses will fully return. Tori is a GREAT Mom who did what a Mother should by taking her to the ER BOTH times. Any new or changing symptoms should be documented. Taken into account and treatment adjusted as needed for optimal quality of life for the patient. Give me some grace y’all. This has taken hours to write and it is probably still not totally correct. I started having HM by way of a traumatic brain injury in Aruba 2014.

I too have had these and they are absolutely no joke. I've had "regular" migraines my whole life, and while I've never used more than what was prescribed, years of taking acetaminophen affected my liver and n-saids put me in the ICU w/a bleeding ulcer. These problems happened after years of use and now I am VERY cognizant of my triggers. Finding your triggers is the key. Start looking for patterns and many times, you'll find them. For me, and lots of others, it's missing a meal, not enough sleep and nitrates in meat. I sure hope yours get better. Blessings to you.

i get aphasia with some of my really bad migraines and the words either dont come out at all, or i'm just saying nonsense. but whats even more scary is that most of the time i dont even know it's happening. my husband eventually told me "i'd been doing that for years" and just leaves me be after i told him about it happening at work and no one understanding what i was saying. it eventually took him having a traumatic brain injury for me to even know it had a name because it just happened to be on a poster in his speech therapy room! migraines are terrifying - there is just so much that is "unknown" so most people just think it's a bad headache!!
