People like Owen Jones can pretend they're fighting in the trenches against the neoliberals "blue or red", but people who think in absolutism terms like that are never going to get anywhere near to influencing power. I'd rather be on board with an imperfect, but decent platform.

@@ecaeas4439Meh, don't think it's absolutism to say that Labour and Tories have basically merged at this point; especially with fringe Tory movement into Labour and very similar levels of corruption (Lords, NHS, water, etc.). I don't have great faith in most other parties, maybe Greens but they're not perfect, though I definitely don't think there's NO chance of change - nor does Owen (probably). Two party system is broken; always has been. Look at the states. When one party goes off "the deepend", you're left with a one party state.

And like the rest of the people on this comments section, it'll likely be Owen Jones who has entirely influenced that decision. Most of the people in this country cannot come to independent or nuanced conclusions on politics; they're led by outspoken people who pretend to mean well. Owen Jones won't admit it, but the last time labour were in power with policies he's saying are neoliberal and won't change anything, the country was in a much better place. People were better off, public services were better funded, poverty was not on the scale it is now and the figures in government were mostly competent, professional and caring.

I think it's important to wait to see what Labour's manifesto actually says. After 14 years of tory mismanagement, just turning everything around immediately will not be possible. We have Brexit that will forever be a hindrance but Labour can't turn that around in one parliament, not least because it's upto the EU.
