I bought the same jack just before Christmas but haven’t opened it yet I also looked at a lot of jacks between Princess Auto and Canadian tire and this seemed like the best bang for the buck.

I did same. I couldn't find anything comparable for the price. I've used it a few times and its worked great. Remember to bleed it before using it! I think the few people who had issues with it failed to do so.

Thanks for your video! I assembled my newly purchased Torin 3 ton jack from Costco. $129.99 on sale 29Aug2024. I didn’t bleed it properly the first couple of times. Great channel. Glad I watched your video because I wouldn't have thought to purge it. That said, would not recommend this jack. Had my 3 ton Torin from Costco fail on me yesterday. Used it to jack up the front end of my midsize truck. Fortunately, it didn't start dropping while I had my vehicle up, though I was using jackstands. Now I just have to find my Costco receipt or see if they have a good warranty.
@VicsGarage71 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. What failed? Might be a easy fix. I haven’t had any issues with mine. That’s a good thing about Costco though, you can return anything, I don’t think you even need the receipt. And good use of Jack stands! Always use them. People are lazy and it can be disastrous….

The only torin jack how to use video i could find. Thanks! One question - if i just need to change the tires from winter to all season or vice versa, do i need to place it on a jack stand? I won't be going under the car.

I’d be lying if I said I ALWAYS used a jack stand. But it’s the safest thing to do and should. Make sure you chock your tires so it doesn’t roll. Good luck and thanks for the review. If you enjoyed it please sub to the channel it helps a ton!

@VicsGarage713 жыл бұрын
This may sound stupid, but is the handle in all the way? Remove the locking bolt and see if it’s all the way seated. Remove the bolt, take handle out, check to see if anything is obstructing the handle from becoming fully seated. Put handle back in all the way, then put bolt back and tighten it. Can’t really think of anything else simple that would cause it to not lower.

Just followed these instructions to purge, oil started leaking out when I pumped the handle before depressing rubber piece. Depressing rubber piece did nothing to let air out, but when I lifted the handle from down position, a burst of air came out. Once I turned handle clockwise and operated jack, it seems to work fine, but I lost some oil in the process. Defective, or did I do something wrong?
@VicsGarage713 жыл бұрын
So you're saying new from the box, as you pumped the handle oil came out from the rubber seal without you touching it? Was the handle in the open position (Turned the way it would be if you were to lower a car?) when you did it? I don't know how much oil came out so its hard to say. If its a lot you can always add more just check instructions for the correct type I don't know what it is off the top of my head. If it was just a bit its probably ok. I'd probably try the purge one more time to make sure its ok. If you're pumping it and oil is coming out that could be a problem with the plug maybe. after removing cover Turn release valve counter-clockwise on full turn to the open position. Rapidly pump the handle 6-8 times. Leave handle in down position to expose oil fill plug. Push up slightly on rubber plug with screwdriver. If you do it again and it seems fine I'd probably be OK with it if it were me.
@KD-dz1mj3 жыл бұрын
So this confused me right away: Turn release valve counter-clockwise on full turn to the open position. There’s a spot that has a sticker that says somehing like “do not adjust”, and other than that the only thing I could think they meant was to turn the handle to operate the release valve? So I turned the handle counter clockwise until it stopped, which I’m wondering if I turned it too much? What does “on full turn” mean? The oil came out where the piston that moves with the handle goes in and out of. Maybe 4-5 tablespoons max came out?
@VicsGarage713 жыл бұрын
@@KD-dz1mj so when it says turn release valve it means by the handle. If oil came out from the piston I’d think there’s something wrong. I thought you said oil came out of the rubber seal when you pushed up on it.
@KD-dz1mj3 жыл бұрын
Did they mean to write “ONE full turn” perhaps? Maybe I turned it too much? Like I said, I turned it counter clockwise until it wouldn’t turn anymore and maybe opened something up too much? Though like you, I don’t think it should be leaking oil like that regardless.
@VicsGarage713 жыл бұрын
@@KD-dz1mj When I did it I just turned the handle to the open position enough that the jack didn't rise as I jacked it. I never counted turns or turned it all the way as you did. I guess it is possible that maybe you unscrewed the valve causing oil to come out. I'd pull the plug out and see how much oil is in it. Sounds like you lost a fair bit. It Should be fairly close to the fill hole. less than 1/8 of an inch from the top. If its more than 1/8 of an inch from the top then you'll need to add oil. And at that point, I'd probably just exchange it at costco for a new one and start over.

Ironic that you call them "Freedom Units" when they were actually designed by the British Crown and the scientific name for them are "Imperial Units". If anything, the metric system is the unit system of freedom, because it was the French (the first modern day Republic) that envisioned the metric system and in many old British colonies it has superseded the old Imperial system.

this jack is too heavy and no wrist to lift it...
@VicsGarage713 жыл бұрын
I guess heavy is relative. Compared to jacks with similar specs, I don’t think so. But even if it was, it spends most the time being dragged on the ground and the wheels roll well. So IMO not a huge concern. If you have to lift it frequently and are not doing heavy vehicles, a light duty jack may be a better option for you. This is definitely more of a garage / shop jack.
