I have seen many videos of the Tormach cutting aluminum and even titanium but not many cutting stainless so here we go

Here is a weird machining experience I have not quite figured out to this day: Back in 94, I worked for a small Mt. Bike manufacture in Michigan that cut some titanium parts. I was drilling a .187" hole 3" deep from each end for a 6/4 titanium bicycle rear hub axle, (and the holes met in the middle pretty good). I used a long high helix colbolt 140 degree split point drill,--coated with something. If I went the normal speeds and feeds with it, it would snap a drill bit in no time. But I discovered that if I "broke in the drill", by slowing down the rpm and chip load, (starting about .0005" chip load and about 10% of the normal rpm), and worked my way up to the right rpm and about .003" feed rate/ chip load, with about 10 or 15 parts, I would get over 200 parts out of that drill at the normal feeds and speeds. Never seen anything like it before or since, but it might be handy sometimes for that stainless.

This is one of your earlier video,s so i am sure everything you need running right on your lathe, you have already sorted out by now. The Gripall bar puller seem to work fairly well from what i have seen. I like your set up with the Turret and the Gang Plate definitely helps with the tools you need. As you already know you never seem to have enough tool capacity in any CNC machine Mill or Lathe. Thanks for the video. #21 Regards Peter.

Just subbed to your channel, will check it out. I prefer the EZ puller it works way way better.

Thinking about purchasing this machine for 303SS. What coolant are you using? Thanks for making the video machining SS.

So far besides threadexpress you have the most coverage over this lathe. Is there a way to increase the rapid speed between tool changes. Just curious.

Unfortunately those are the rapids of this machine. Rapids are 60IPM. Check out my Okuma videos to see some quick tool changes and rapids. Welcome to our channel and thanks for the comment.

@@dnjmachine I thought it was still in feed mode. Not going to see sub 2 second chip to chip on this. :)

I need a machine that can handle 1.375" through the spindle bore and creating 1"-8 and 3/4"-10 external threads on 303 stainless. Is this machine capable of that? Thanks.

The spindle on this machine is only 1.1"

Are these stock tormach inserts?
@dnjmachine4 ай бұрын
Yes they are.

you said 304, but isn't it 303? usually 303 for solid, 304 for tube....
@dnjmachine6 жыл бұрын
It is 304, you can get 304 and 303 in solid or tube. 303 is considered free machining and 304 weld able but not as easily machined. (never machines 303 myself) The reason we use 304 is mainly for its use around food and its ability to stand up to very harsh cleaners.Thanks for the comment.

Sooo slow lol
@dnjmachine2 ай бұрын
Yea its pretty slow but that was in the beginning when we had only manual machines. Our okuma spanks this machine but we all have to start somewhere.

Talking way to much in the video

I agree, this is only my 2nd video. I try much harder to keep it to a minimum these days.Check out my most recent videos they are way shorter and to the point.

@@dnjmachine Everyone is going to have there own take on what they want to see or HEAR while watching a video. For myself i do not mind the talking during the video. I hope Bob does not watch my channel otherwise he will only watch one video. Hehehe. Enjoyed the video. Regards Peter.
