It's me again, but due to your last response to me being so kind, despite my venom, I come in peace in search of civil discourse, and wanted to touch on something, or maybe I just needed to write something which I've stopped doing, sorry it might be a long one..... We had to be medics also at the dept. I worked for, along with my battling of mental health a little bit before the ptsd diagnosis, I know what you're saying about medications, I've had shrinks talk to me for 10min and do nothing but throw a handful of scripts at me, I had a buddy work a fubar fire call with a lot kids involved that caused him to leave the job, and the first year some asshole doc had him on so many meds, I thought his head was going to just pop off and roll down the street, getting him down to one med and more therapy saved his life. I also know success stories where a medication or two absolutely made life bearable for a person, something they'll probably be on for years or life. It's all about finding out what works, monitoring it and finding the right healthcare professional that will be diligent, which ain't always easy unfortunately. I know you said everyone you talked to or met had a certain experience, but that's a limited lens to view a very large issue, and I'm not denying the greed and dangers of big pharma, or uncaring docs that just want to throw meds at a problem, just don't throw the baby out with the bathwater is all I'm saying, especially when you have a platform that can, and absolutely does, help others. Lastly and quickly, thought I had listened to most of NF's catalogue, saw what you said about "Paralyzed" at the beginning of this video and realized that one must have slipped by me, so I just watched it........... F**K ME......ɪ'ᴍ ꜱᴄᴀʀᴇᴅ ᴛᴏ ʟɪᴠᴇ ʙᴜᴛ ɪ'ᴍ ꜱᴄᴀʀᴇᴅ ᴛᴏ ᴅɪᴇ ; ɪ'ᴍ ɪɴ ᴀ ʙᴏx ʙᴜᴛ ɪ'ᴍ ᴛʜᴇ ᴏɴᴇ ᴡʜᴏ ʟᴏᴄᴋᴇᴅ ᴍᴇ ɪɴ.........I had a pretty rough summer, and that song, especially those two lines leveled me, I watched your reaction then Paralyzed like 3hrs ago, I'm just getting around to pulling myself together enough to be able to write this. How did you get out of the box man, I just want the key, I used to have it in my pocket, but it's f***ing gone, I'm not even sure the box has a god damn way out that can be unlocked anymore.

This seems to be a stretch on what Ronnie has tweeted about in the past that I have found. Seems that he has only denounced Christianity because he felt that they were not accepting of gays before the 90's. Since then, it is my understanding that you can find lyrics within his music suggesting that he recognizes a higher power and is asking the question if he might have lived his life as he should have as the world ends. I could be wrong but that is what I have found.

For me I found that medication only helps if you think it will. If you don't think it will work, it usually won't work. Which is why meds never helped my PTSD. Therapy did, and learning ways to cope with it. You're right medication is a temporary bandaid if it does work, it only works temporarily. ❤
@LongandWeirdName Жыл бұрын
Yeah... Hi. ASD with chronic recurrent major depressive disorder here. Medication is not a band-aid. It's a lifeboat. My mood is a slow sinusoid. Peaks and valleys. When over 0, maybe even down to -2(on a -10 to 10 scale) I can function properly. But without taking some SSRI and so on... I'd be losing my job every time things go under that line. And that can be months worth of not earning a living. Traveling through an ocean, working with the crews of multiple ships... Which always sink in the end. And without my lifeboat in the form of pills... I'd be going down with those ships. And I want to reach the other shore and feel the sand under my feet naturally, not hit the sand at bottom of the ocean prematurely.
@DarkAngel1985Mike Жыл бұрын
Yeah, when I was on medication and in therapy I had several suicide attempts going to the 3rd grade and through high school, when I stopped the medication and therapy I learned other ways to deal with stuff and I’ve been better than I was in my youth, it can be attributed too to the fact I got out of the toxic environment that is the US school system
@AmarnaJenniferWhitehouse Жыл бұрын
You're spot on about the medication... the side effects from the pills outweigh the actual 'cure' for the reason you're takings the meds for in the first place!

As a Nurse (half of my career was spent in Psych, which was about a decade in Psych) if you're going to give opinions on medical things, you should preface it with it's your opinion & that people should not just quit taking any medication until they talk to their doctor, because that can actually hurt or even kill people. I'm a Nurse & I still tell people when I give my opinion on things that it's NOT medical advice & always talk to your doctor before stopping or starting any medication. I have PTSD, depression, GAD, chronic panic disorder, OCD, & chronic insomnia related to PTSD & I've taken an antidepressant for decades & it doesn't numb me at all. It never has. It actually helps me. I had to go through several different antidepressants, though, to find the right one. That sucked. I'm not being rude at all. You just have to be very careful, because some people aren't that bright & would just stop taking their medicine without talking to their doctor & that can be very dangerous. Then there are others who would do it, then try to sue you saying it's your fault for saying medicine doesn't help. It's ridiculous, but these are the times we live in. Smh. Thank you for your service. Dope reaction! Have a blessed day. 😁🙏

The fact that I have never claimed to be a medical professional in any capacity should be a perceived disclaimer that everything I speak about dealing with any mental health problems is my opinion based on my personal life experiences. For example it is my opinion that your stating that you being a nurse doesn’t support your statement very well. I say that based on the fact that in my experience anytime I have gone to see a mental health professional of any kind a nurse was never involved outside of me signing in at the front desk. Beyond that I never said that anyone should quit taking medicine or for that matter what I had to say was not in anyway medical advice for anyone to take. I only stated that the medicine was a bandaid to mask the symptoms around the actual problem. Definitely couldn’t be sued for what I said. Definitely didn’t take you for being rude. People have different opinions, and that’s perfectly ok. I encourage people to debate topics they are passionate about. Thank you for your support and for watching my videos. Much love and respect!

@@TormentedVet_Reactions there are things called Psych Units & that's what I worked in, so please don't disrespect me as a Nurse. I wasn't rude to you & although you acknowledged that, you were definitely insulting me. Sorry for trying to help. Have a blessed day.

Nothing I have said was said with the intent to disrespect or insult you. While I understand your position and took no offense to your comment. It could have easily been taken as if you were being condescending by using your accolades to justify your statement. However, I chose to not take it in that context. As mentioned I said nothing to disrespect or insult anyone and will not do so as that is not the type of person I am. I hate that you did not like what I said but you not liking what I said and me being disrespectful or insulting are two different things my friend. I hope you have the best of days. Medication is like putting a bandaid on a sucking chest wound...
@ievazagante5527 Жыл бұрын
Mental problems are different. And band-aid is a good thing when the wound, even a stitched one, cannot be kept uncovered. The drugs may calm/stimulate and help to consider the situation, others prevent hallucinations, others slow diseases that end in sitting and drooling, or not sitting, if you a caretaker is too expensive. And slow down means you may die of old age still mentally sound, or live until the moment when even better drugs become available.

The thing about medication for things like depression is that they need to be part of a mental health treatment plan. There have to be backed up with talk therapy, learning coping strategies, things of that nature. Meds definitely won't "fix" your problems. But when used in conjunction with other methods, they can be effective as long as you're not expecting Dumbo's magic feather. That being said, meds unfortunately don't work for everyone for every occasion. The very fact your username is Tormented Vet tells me you've probably been through some rough shit. So however you do approach your mental health, I hope it works for you and that you take care. 🙂

I really like your videos but needed to chime in on the medication. Chronic mental health diagnosis definitely need permanent medication to make life manageable. These would be things like schizophrenia, psychosis, bipolar disorder, chronic depression, etc. I think what you were hitting on the money with were acute/circumstance driven mental health challenges or medications that have hard side effects constantly for the unknown triggers. For either situation, you always have to assess if the side effects of the medication are worth the effectiveness and if not, you may need a different medication or supplemental one. All mental health medications have side effects so it's about balance and the pursuit of finding what's right to make you feel better more often.
@TormentedVet_Reactions Жыл бұрын
I definitely appreciate the input. There was a time that I would have agreed with you on this. However, I still stand firm on my position as I have and know people with chronic mental health problems, some of which you listed. And those who were actually treated through therapy and not medication was found to more often be able to mitigate their mental health problems faster and more often than numbing the symptoms with medicine. But that is also based on my experience, I understand that everyone's experiences can be very different.
