I've watched about 15 videos of retinal tear and this is the best. Exactly what i was looking for. I had to grab a quick flight to a neighbouring province after being told i had a retinal tear a month ago. I'd been talking to a couple of coworkers outside and suddenly started seeing big floaters and what looked like squiggly worms wiggling around in my vision. I figured I would sleep on it and it would all be gone when i woke up but instead i rushed to emergency. Lucky thing because the doctor said it was torn in two places and immediately arranged to have me see someone 750kms away the next morning early. What a shock to be cruising along with confidence and half a day later being told to get someone to escort you on a flight for emergency surgery. How am I? Fine, but the whole experience was scary. Wondered if I'd ever work or drive again. Will never take my vision or my health for granted again. Thank you for reading this and if you are having laser surgery for your own retinal tears or detachment i sincerely hope it works out ok. If anyone has any questions I will answer them.

M59yo. White flashes in right eye and thought it was a migraine coming on. Then lots of floaters. Rang for advice and told to come into emergency asap. Assessment done. Told to get a retinal photograph at my optometrist. She found two tears. Went to the eye clinic. They said it wasn't looking good and likely to progress to retinal detachment. Had laser therapy. Had to go back for a second session bc they didn't seal one tear completely the first time. Prognosis is now good. Everyone online say it's painless. Certainly wasn't for me! And once the anaesthetic wore off, it was like having a sinus infection + hangover + being punched in the face. But amazing they can repair a tear at all. Cost (Australia): $0. Thx Medicare!

A tear can progress to a detachment if not treated. The Dr uses a laser to burn the tears and once they heal in about two weeks the retina should be ok. It took maybe an 1.0 hour or maybe 1.5 hours. I had to keep having him stop due to pain and discomfort. I had 4 tears. It's something that takes some getting used to. The Dr can give you some meds to numb the pain. The bright lights used seem crazy bright and so is that laser. Afterwards you will be out of whack for a few hours. I was ok after two days. I had to go back for another half hour session of laser treatment. Folks, don't play around with this. Get it done if you need it. Go to a top level clinic for treatment. I had not been to an eye doctor in 7 years. I will never make that mistake again. I plan on going once or twice a year no matter what.

Im 26yo, ive had this yesterday in my right eye. I had 3 big spots with holes and one of it was close to my optic nerve. Started seeing a bit of floaters and flashes in the peripheral vision. I went to the emergency and they checked after they've dilated my pupils with drops. I wish i had sunglasses because i was super light sensitive after that. They asked me if I wanted to get this surgery right now and I said yes. The surgery was painful for the patch near the nerve but the rest was not so bad. They used drops to neutralize my cristallin and also to make me not blink. The surgery lasted for like 5min at max, i saw a green laser and it beeped whenever it would do the welding*?. I did like a good 110 beeps and it was done. Then i went back home right after. I was having a blurry vision for like 2h, I could still see fine but i couldnt read small letters. Took another 4h to have my pupils stop being so dilated so i wore sunglasses for that time. Today ive had a bit of pain when looking at stuff like 6inch from my eye but it was due to my cristallin being sore. Everything else is perfect and painless. My doctor told me to go back to the hospital in case i saw like a curtain in my sight or if i had flahses again. But i have absolutely nothing of that, as if ive never had any eye problem in my entire life. No lights, no green or gray spot, no floaters. I think it is litterally the best surgery experience ive had so far and ive had a couple. I think it is 100% worth it. And it is more stress than harm. Be sure to have sunglasses and someone with you because you cannot drive after the surgery. Much love xx

Id do it again 100%. totally worth it, more stress than harm. Dr. I had a 100% retina detachment and I caught the problem later like by 6 days, the surgeon however took on the task of repairing it with laser treatment. 30 days later the surgeon inspected the eye and told me it was going along great ! My next appointment is in mid June for my second check up. I tend to wake up seeing slightly better, still pretty blurry regardless, but better. As the day goes on since I watch TV a few hours during the day, it seems that my operated eye gets tired and the eye seems to get tired and my vision gets a tad blurrier. I keep my face upward and to the right as I was told on the pillow, but I tend to sleep better to the other side, but it’s been like 2 months since the operation, so I don’t think this will affect it. I did follow the instructions on this the first 30 days. Any comments to help me. I use the drops given.

They had me sit for a bit, I guess to make sure all that sets in and then the actual procedure started. Lasted maybe two minutes? I couldn't believe it when they were done lol. I couldn't see at first, they said my eye was swollen, but then they had me look up and as my eye was hosed with something, I was able to see again. I have to go back in three months. @@mariorojas6464 I'm 19 years old and I had laser photocoagulation last week, everything went fine, It's a procedure that lasts 10 minutes and doesn't cause much pain, but it's uncomfortable. I had a small retinal tear too.

@@juanrossi4837 Thanks for sharing your experience. Has there been any changes to your vision after surgery? Was it both eyes or just one? Did you go with a retinal specialist or just ophthalmologist? And are there any lifestyle changes? Thanks in advance.

You say the laser procedure to fix a tear in the retina is painless!???? I totally disagree! I'm going back tomorrow for my third attempt to laser my torn retina.. The first 2 times was unsuccessful due to the extreme pain, which caused me to be unable to continue. The bright flashing of the laser was so bright I pulled away in pain! I am always one to handle pain very well, but this was unbearable to me. I am so worked up about tomorrows procedure, I'm literally sick to my stomach, but I don't want to lose my sight! Why isn't there a more painless way to do this? I think it's more about saving $ (as all insurance Co. do) than not being able to do what it takes to keep the patient comfortable. Also, The first eye dr. I saw, she was shooting that laser wildly all over the place, regardless of my pleading for her to stop. How possible is it, that she may have caused more harm than good? She used the laser like a machine gun! The second Dr. I went to was at least slower and more precise in the zaps.

I had this done a few years ago. It seems like all the doctors say this is supposed to be painless but mine was excruciating. My eyes are really sensitive to bright lights so you can imagine how bad this was for me, I honestly don't understand how I was able to sit still while this was being done on me. After it was done, the whole left side of my head was in so much pain. (I only had my left eye done)

I had a few retinal holes in my left eye and I only found out because my optometrist noticed them when I went for a new prescription. When I went to get the procedure done I had just gotten my new glasses. My left eye was ever so slightly blurry after the procedure for a few days and then less blurry for a few more days after that. If I remember correctly, I don't think it went back to being 100% clear again, but the blurriness was so minimal that it didn't bother me.

Had retinal tears in Both eyes and got laser surgery on both. Wish I hadn’t have done this. I think these procedures should only be done if you are at risk of losing vision the day of. Not sure why they push preventative procedures if there is nothing wrong with your eyes. There’s no telling if u would ever even get a detached retina. Not a medical professional but if I could turn back time I woudnt do it. Why damage ur eyes with laser if you’re eyes feel healthy and your vision is good

A very rare result happened to you. What complications did you experience do to the laser treatment? Laser treatment has fewer bad results than surgically opening the eye for repair of a detached retina. Doing nothing will end in blindness. Not to be unsympathetic, but how have you read and posted here if you are completely blind? Also you say 'these drs dint tell you risk'. What doctors, and how do you know what risks are explained by who and to whom? Why did your doctor move to another location?

Don't ever have laser done on your eye unless the doctor guarantees it in writing. I lost everything when I went for treatment. It took a couple of years but I could no longer work cause I had no depth perception for my work. DO NOT LET A DOCTOR SHOOT A LASER IN YOUR EYE FOR MORE THAN A BLINK!
