What a pre-Christmas joyride!!! And guess what - this is not only one of my favourite Neapolitan songs, in addition several of my favorite singers are featured in this great video of yours, Michael! Beautiful and very interesting photos too... Well, I‘m not surprised about that... it‘s the usual Michael McGrail quality... Thank you very much for sharing so much delight!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️

It's my pleasure Harriet, I'm really pleased that you enjoyed the video, unfortunately two of my other favourites McCormack and Caruso didn't record it. What do you honestly think about the compilations of the same song/aria that I do.I'm not sure that it's a good idea as most people perhaps, generally, don't want to listen to the same music repeated even though each recording is different and enjoyable in it's own way. I can't make my mind up whether to continue or abandon the compilations and would value your opinion. Best regards, Michael..
@hrbooksmusic78783 жыл бұрын
@@michaelmcgrailengland Thank you for your kind answer, Michael! That‘s a hard question you asked me... Personally I think it‘s great to compare the different voices and interpretations (as long as people don‘t consider the whole thing a competition and start a quarrel about who is better and who is best. No way to prevent that when quarrelsome people appear among the commentators, I‘m afraid...) So I‘m a big fan of your compilations! Maybe there are listeners who will feel a little bored or don‘t have enough time to listen to the whole video - but on the other hand, it‘s impossible to please everyone. What you might want to do is take a look at the number of views and also the number of likes in comparison to the non-compilation videos... And if you‘re torn, you could maybe try out compilations with only two or three singers or choose six singers performing the same song, but put them in two separate videos, part one and part two, so to speak. Then watch what happens, compare again, after a while, of course, to give both (or all) alternatives a fair chance... You probably had these ideas yourself. But now you at least know that I‘d give them a thumbs-up (a big thumbs-up for the way you handle the subject right now as well!!!) Whatever my opinion is worth... Sorry I‘m not more useful. It‘s so hard to guess what other people may or may not prefer... Please get back to me any time if you want to talk this over! Have a wonderful advent time! 🎄🎄🎄 Best regards!

The English version is fantastic. When it comes to Neapolitan songs, I think Corelli is generally the best, his voice had soul. He could drag real emotion out of the music. I think you need a lot of expression and colour for Neapolitan songs. Di Stefano also generally does well in this area, he was a very expressive personality by nature. Del Monaco also did some good Neapolitan songs, he also had soul in his voice like Corelli. Soul is is very rare in opera. Most of the others are not really expressive singers. Of course they all had legendary and amazing voices in general.

Can't keep up with you tonight, thanks for listening and for your comment. We all have our favourites, of course, but I think that all the singers here excel giving the song their own personal touch and I'm glad that you like the Josef Locke version. I wish that Caruso had recorded it.
@ZENOBlAmusic Жыл бұрын
@@michaelmcgrailengland It is exceedingly rare to hear such good dictation on an English version. English dictation in opera often doesn’t seem to work that well when it is translated from Italian. Locke can almost convince you that it was originally done in English. It is certainly a shame Caruso did not record this song, this was a very popular song. You do great work, your colour photos are truly amazing as well. I post videos from time to time myself, so I know how much work and effort goes into this. Luckily you still have many videos to watch!

Lanza è pressoché inascoltabile già dall attacco, voce strozzata in gola, qualche acuto senza dare senso a ciò che canta, pessimo
