Tornado deposits dumpster onto roof of Palm Beach Gardens home

One of the tornadoes that hit Florida was so powerful that it tossed a giant dumpster - which typically weighs a couple of tons - onto the roof of a home in the Avenir community of Palm Beach Gardens.

Dude looks great for 77 though! But yeah, it really is horrible to be faced with such devastation at his age, during his golden years. I mean, obviously it sucks no matter what age you are, but it’s even more heart wrenching to see children and the elderly suffer.

If you want to live in Florida, you'll need to build a home that can not only survive hurricanes and tornadoes, but also be able to live off the grid. Water and power and food for weeks or months or longer for the yearly hurricane season. Not too many people can afford that.

It surprises me so many vinyl houses or cheaper material built in Florida…. Better to build that than to rebuild again & again. You say they can’t afford that, but can they afford to keep rebuilding homes? Even insurance is sketchy sometimes.

Good quality roof all things considered, but every replacement home should be required by code to be basically a concrete bunker including a precast slab roof. Codes should also incorporate shipping containers as an option because they're all rated for typhoons at sea. I've five including two welded together as my storm-proof machine and welding shop.

I’ll take our northern Michigan SNOWSTORM any day over the hazards of living in FL. At least we aren’t forced to evacuate our homes any part of the year, nor do we fear our homes being damaged or destroyed by our weather. We simply throw another blanket on the bed and a few more logs on the crackling 🔥 fire and drift off peacefully to sleep. You couldn’t pay me to live OR visit that rat race called Florida.
