West Byfleet was opened in 1887, nearly 49 years after the line had passed through the area. When the station was built it was done so with a very weird design feature. It was built with 3 platforms, not 4 or 2. The line had already been upgraded for quad running and at the time they had additional express services stopping at some of the smaller local stations, so they had a third platform built on the up fast line. Mind you it didn't last all that long, hell in the grand scheme of things it was never used, so in many respects it was just a waste of time which weirdly also gave the station a bit of charm.
My next station is Byfleet & New Haw.
