I've had a craftsman 26" snow thrower with a joystick chute control for the past 10 years. I can tell you that once you get used to the convenience of the joystick you will never want to use anything else! It's awesome

Thanks Rob, great review. I own the 1028 OHXE Of 2015 and the quick Shute controls and gears are tough and last, I live in Canada, the machine is very easy to start and I’ve never found myself in a situation where the snowblower failed me.

10 yrs on the little brother, the 726OE. 26", 205cc engine, and the quick stick. Never a hitch with any of it so far; quick stick rules. No major maintenance, ever. Drain tank in the spring, non oxy fuel always, and she rips like a champ. Wish they would make the smaller size with the larger engine. That would be perfect. Nice video.

I owned the TORO 824 for 20 years and gave it to a friend that needed one and it was running perfectly after 20 years. I purchased the TORO 1028 about 5 years ago and it too runs perfectly, I wouldn't own anything else.

I have essentially the same Toro machine, purchased about 5 or 6 years ago. It is my first snow thrower and I had a lot of questions prior to purchasing it. But no more. It’s a beast and handles anything our Michigan winter delivers to my 300 foot driveway. Fun to use

I have the older version of this machine that I picked up at an orange box store. It works well, and the control stick takes a little getting used to. The only problem I have ever had is that it does not like being stored for any period of time with pump gas (both with or without stabilizer in it). I had to do a few carb clean outs and rebuilds until I switched to VP small engine fuel exclusively for this machine and my string trimmer. It is about $100 for a 5 gallon pail but I have not had to service the carb in 4 years and it starts on the first pull even after the off season. Snow removal performance is excellent. A great machine

You can adjust the top of the shift rod by disconnecting it and two to three turns to slow down your forward gears. I have a Toro 1232 Power Max HD with trigger steer, I like that type of steering better than auto steer. These Toro HD machines are very well bult and have plenty of power even in the worst conditions. Great video. Love watching snow blowers tackle deep snow.

I have a 210' long driveway with a slope on it. If anyone has a slope, really advise getting a blower with tank tracks, because it adds traction and stabilizes the auger. Mine has a mini-joystick which my thumb can reposition without taking my hands off the steering handles. Good review Rob. Thanks.

What I don't like about snowblowers with tires is they have no traction without putting on chains. When you have a heavy wet snow with ice on the bottom layer the only thing that moves that blower is tracks. I have a Honda with tracks that will go through anything . Expensive yea but worth it . I do like the no shear pin concept . Love your reviews Rob keep em coming .

I have the 26" power max bought last year cost me $2200 canadian, I did my research before the purchase I was leaning towards Cub Cadet but the Toro with no shear pins and the anti clog system sold me. I have a rock driveway and sometimes I pick them up in the snowblower, this machine is a breast. I agree with you about the lower gear and fuel valve . But overall I'm very pleased with machine and really like the 1 pull to start it.

I bought one of these, but we had our first storm last night, about 2". My place is a cabin in the mountains with dirt and wood mulch and pine needles I have to blow snow off of. Last night's wasn't enough to blow, and it was melted by mid-day. However mid-next week we are supposed to get a couple feet, so I will break it out then. It's all prepped, tire pressures, ArmorSkids, Fluid Film, anti-sieze on the axles. Looking forward to it!

Two years ago I went to the local dealer after a snow storm and all that was left was the Toro you have here and a Honda 720 and a few bigger machines but went with the Honda. I live in the Toledo Ohio area and 4 to 6 inches is normal and right in the Honda's sweet spot have not regretted the 720 purchase yet. ... Yet

It is the nature of the auto steer system to act the way it does when encountering uneven force on the intake bucket. Many complain about this condition with auto steer. Uneven ground or hard packed snow or ice can cause this issue as well. I did a lot of research before my purchase of a new snow blower. I decided to go with the Toro Power Max HD 1232 with trigger steer to elevate any steering issues sense I will be using the machine in less than perfect conditions. Winter will soon be upon us. Time to get our snow blowers ready for action.

I remember when toro snowblowers we just as heavy as the ariens of the time. I wish our driveway wasn't so dam big I'm stick using a garden tractor with blower on the front it's an animal but it's no where's near as maneuverable, then I have the big john deere and still cannot quite take the place of a normal snowblower. Good idea reviewing that Rob. Take care stay safe, and tom brady is still ours ya know haha didn't need him anyways

I'm still using my 17-year-old Honda 1132. It's a beast and the hydrostatic transmission gives perfect speed control for heavy, wet, and deep snow. It'll blow 60 ft. The one major drawback was its very high cost, although the new ones are nearly the same and with more horsepower. My small engine mechanic said I should get several more years out of it. I can't say what other brands will last that long.

There is an adjustment to make your first gear slower.Oh under the control panel at the bottom of the shift selector is a connection to a threaded rod. You simply need to shorten the length of that rod by pulling the cotter pin and turning in that threaded connector three turns into the rod. Put the cotter pin back in, start it up and check the forward speed again in first gear. If it is still too fast, repeat the same procedure using one turn increments until you fine-tune the creeper gear just like you like it. All snow blowers have this adjustment. Mine was too fast as well but not anymore. It’s nice and slow in first giving it time to eat up all that deep snow.

Toro 10/28 snowblower review Snow blowers owned. All with Tecumseh engines not the cheap Chinese engines.. 1. Toro 10/28 2. Ariens 8/24 3. Yardman 8/24 built from various parts. I live in upper Michigan, last year we had a huge mid march snowstorm. It was about 30 inches of the heavy wet stuff, you know the kind. I got up around 5:00am and had my coffee as usual and then donned my Carhartts for the usual 90 minutes of clearing snow. My driveway is gravel and about 300 ft long with a few smaller sections and dog runs. I got out to my garage at the far end of my property and turned on the lights. At the time I had fluorescent lights that took a bit of time to warm up to full brightness. The snowblowers are arranged in various areas in the garage waiting to be called to duty. First I looked at the Ariens, It refused to make eye contact and I’m pretty sure it pointed in the direction of the back corner. This snow was a bit more than the 8/24 could handle anyways. Next, I walked by the Yardman and I could see a small oil leak begin to form on the floor. Pass. As the lights started to warm up I could just make out the Toro in the back corner of the garage. This blower was tough, scarred, battle hardened and had never failed me. It was dusty and worn with some small areas of rust on the augur and the red touch up paint was obvious. He was just sitting there with its hat tipped down smoking a cigarette in the dark waiting for action. We made direct eye contact for a second or two and I said , “you ready”? Then somehow through no action by my own, that Tecumseh 10HP roared to life… that had never happened before but we shared a mutual respect so I didn’t think much of it. On went my gloves and out the door we went. For the next 90 minutes together we chopped, tore, hacked, sliced, shredded and basically devastated that snow in such horrible ways that it makes me cringe even to this day. That Toro raged through that heavy snow with a hatred and vengeance witnessed before. It was truly inspirational and every second was a true pleasure. Never a sputter, never a hiccup, never a complaint. When the job was done I throttled it down for a minute before shutting down and returning it to the garage. After brushing off of some accumulated snow around the augur assembly I returned it to the corner where it likes to be kept. I turned to the Toro and said “thanks”. As I walked toward the door I glanced back at the Toro as he put his leather hat back on, tilted it down and lit up a smoke. Till next time……….

It is a beast of a Snowblower, but my old Sears snowblower better by turning left/right trigger control, but when something gets old 21 years, problems start one after the other, but now won't move forward the Toro machine, maintenance time; solve the problem loose part internal. One-year-old Toro.
@russellmaddock34922 жыл бұрын
Toro, Ariens and all well-known manufactures that use Chinese engines are joint ventures and are engineered to meet the companies demands of power and torque and longevity. The higher end heavy duty machines use commercial grade engines and are made to endure heavier and longer use. That goes for the rest of the snow blower as well. For most residential users the standard snow blower is more than adequate to clear driveways and sidewalks, unless one lives in heavy snow belt areas. I for one am looking forward to winter and any snow mother nature wants to bring my way. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

Do you find the auto-steering twitchy. I had a 826 and found it to light. On ice patches or compacted snow patches the machine thought I was trying to change direction. I had to make constant corrections, it wore me out after 10 minutes. I returned it for a credit for a different model when some new ones come in. The 828 is one of the ones I am thinking about the other is a Areins 28 Deluxe

@russellmaddock34922 жыл бұрын
When I was researching Ariens and Toro snow blowers with auto steer I found that some complained about the twitchiness of the machines in certain conditions. In most conditions the auto steer according to those who operate them work really well. But in the real world of snow blowing conditions can vary depending on many factors. When making my purchase of a new snow blower I opted to go with the Toro Power Max HD 1232 which comes with trigger steering. Stays in locked axle position until you pull one of the triggers to initiate a turn or adjustment of direction. Trigger steer has been around for many years, so it is a proven steering mechanism for snow blowers. Like anything mechanical, regular maintenance and proper lubrication will keep everything working properly as well as longer lasting.

People claim the auto steering on some of these snow blowers when you're using half of the snowblower or thick snow putting pressure on one side it'll always turn when you're trying to go straight. This happens a lot on The Ariens version How about the Toro?
@dabig_guy22043 жыл бұрын
I am hoping someone can answer this question for me. Why do current Toro gas models not provide the HP output? They give you the engine displacement and even some arbitrary distance the machine can throw snow out. Do I care it is 252cc's or that it thows snow 50 feet? I have had several brands with either Briggs&Stratton or Tecumseh engines and all came with a hp rating. I attempted to Google the power rating of the newest line of gas-powered Toro snowblowers and could not find anything. Like it is a sin. On a large 26" 252 cc Toro snowblower, even with the current pollution control, I would expect to see at least 10-11hp rated output. There is a minority of people pushing battery-powered snowblowers. I find it laughable that someone is actually comparing these two types of snowblowers. The power output of a gas-powered snowblower is on the order of 6-7 times larger than anything a battery unit can produce. I have yet to see anyone in my area use a battery-powered snowblower to clean their driveway with 28" of snow.
