I like this guy, funny, and he knows the equipment before he even fires it up to do battle with the large piles of snow!!! I just bought a Toro 1030 , and I can't wait to try it out. This Toro snowblower is replacing a Home Depot " Yard Machine " snowblower that I purchased way back at the beginning of winter in 1996, and it ran great, and doesn't owe me anything. But I'm going to be doing the entire neighborhood, because I just enjoy removing the snow and making everything look neat and clean. Thank you for the good video, both entertaining and informative. 👍🏻🇺🇸👍🏻 PS - I'm sorry about this being so long, and rambling, but I've been unable to sleep for the past two days 😴 💤, and I'm getting a little whammy!!!! I'm getting up now, time to move snow, and even though it's still dark out, " I'VE GOT A VERY BRIGHT HEADLIGHT NOW "!!!! Stay safe and well.

Love the Channel Taryl. You are the man. I purchased the Toro 828 earlier this year and, assuming the 826 is constructed from the same design, there is a suspected manufacturer's defect with the friction rod that comes standard on the machine. This is the +/- 12" metal rod that attaches at the clutch cable plate and runs into the "transmission case" to engage the drive system. The rod on my machine snapped at the connection with the cable plate after about 10 uses. I identified the part so I could order a new one from Toro (Part No. 137-6157) and in the process of ordering the replacement, I was directed to a new part (Part No. 144-1620) which has apparently superseded the old part. The new lift rod was delivered with new mounting plates and now attaches via a small bolt at both connections as opposed to the previous "s-curve" rod connection that is just weaved into the connector plates. The newly-designed lift rod is substantially beefier than the original. This suggests to me that Toro is aware of this issue. I'd like to say that it was covered as a warranty issue, but Toro would have required me to take the machine into an authorized service center for that to be the case (none in my area). Takes all of 20 minutes to swap out the lift rod. Happy to report that the machine moves some serious snow when it is operable. Less than thrilled that I had to pay Toro $45 to get the new part sent to me when they have obviously re-designed this component and are clearly aware of the issue. I suspect newer units will come standard with the new lift rod. I purchased mine from Home Depot in Oct 2020. You can easily determine if you are purchasing a unit with the redesign, as the lift rod will be bolted onto the clutch plate at the rear of the machine. If the unit uses the s-connection you may experience the same problem that I did.

THE ANTI-CLOGGING SYSTEM IS INGENIOUS!! Right way you pointed out that extra cut out. What it does is sends some of the snow back into the auger to aerate it even more!! This makes the snow lighter so it Not only will it virtually stop clogging ( I've never seen any one of these clogged in any snow ) It makes the snow lighter so it can be thrown further, puts less pressure on the belts, gears, and engine.. Again ingenious!! And the sheer pins is another ingenious thing. I've experienced this first hand. I was moving along in my auger hit a car rim that was under the snow that I forgot was there. The machine stopped immediately. I undug the rim and said oh crap, backed up, I started The machine and I was on my way. NO SHEER PINS TO BREAK!! INGENIOUS, INGENIOUS!! ;)

@@arthurgilbert587 I agree with buying from a reputable dealer. I bought my Toro Power Max HD 1232 from the dealer I have bought all my outdoor power equipment from. They sell Honda, Cub Cadet and Toro in outdoor power equipment. Honda is out of the walk behind lawn mowers business as of 2023. Makes me wonder what else they may drop in not-too-distant future. I really like my Toro 1232. Lots of power and throws snow 57' plus in right conditions. The anti-clog impeller system is what sold me on the Toro. Thanks for your response. I only live about 25 miles from the Airens HQ in Brillion Wi but have always owned Toro's. I have a 35 year old 824 at my house up north where I regularly blow a good foot or more and still runs great. My newer 10-24 similar to that one has been running smooth since the day I bought it 6 or so years ago. I also have a small 2 stroke paddle wheeler to do the finishing work/light snow jobs. That thing is probably 20 years old and still starts on the 2nd pull! Also own their lawnmowers and one lawn tractor!

Two thumbs up for sure! My 2016 826 OXE has been a treat to operate since I bought it. She replaced a early 60's Ariens 2 stage 24". That thing would wear me out, just taking it out of the garage! Gave it away, still running! This new Toro is an engineering masterpiece. Only issue I've had, was with the bolts holding augers to the shaft. Instead of breaking, they plowed a 1/2" long gouge in the auger sleave. I've since replaced them with 1/4-20 x 1/3/4" grade 5 hex head bolts, which have sheared now and then. No biggie.

You are absolutely right about having 2 snow blowers. Here in my state we used to get a couple good snow storms and in between just smaller storms the ones from 2 to 4 in. Back 2010 when we kept on getting hit by one large storm after another and in between smaller ones. That's when I decided to get a two stage snow blower. Even though my little two stroke was never intended to be used on snowfalls a foot or more higher I was able to make do. It was a pain in the butt every couple hours I would have to go out and clear everything. Fortunately I neighbor jumped in and was helping to keep their drywall and driveways clear. After doing all right that's when I went to a two-stroke. Unfortunately the one I bought I hate it and actually sold it during a snowstorm. I was lucky enough that my other neighbor just had gotten a big snowblower from his brother who moved down south into the Caribbean somewhere. Even though he takes care of the snow I still want my own two stage snow blower again. I watch your shootout between there Toro and the Aaron and I wasn't impressed by either one of those. I really like what I saw in your video here. That snow blower in the video actually did what it is supposed to do and make your life easier. I really would like to see if you end up putting that weight on the front end and how it works out for you. After I'm done leaving this comment I'm going to shoot over to the Toro web page and see if this is something I have to order or if it's in stock someplace around me. I enjoyed looking at the attachments that you showed pictures of. Again another great video I really look forward to watching more.

I guess if you had a really big snow blower then you'd want maybe a little slow blower to go along with it. But the 826 is not a really big snowblower. It's easy to maneuver like a shopping cart so even if you had 4 in of snow I would still use it. You could put it in sixth gear and get right through it. Those little portable battery powered shovels are almost useless in anything over 3 in. They're not that wide something 4 in and below you can actually buy the pro MANPLOW with the easy edge. You could easily push the snow with that. AND IT'S 32 IN WIDE AND IT WOULD BE FASTER THEN USING ONE OF THOSE LITTLE POWER SHOVELS!! You also got those $300 $400 battery powered little snow blowers that are single stages. When you get over 6 in of snow with them and it's kind of heavy you have to back up and plow into it back up and plow into it You're basically doing close grip push-ups It's way too much work. I think the 826, the size of it, the weight of it, the automatic steering turning like a shopping cart, and everything else that it has with the ingenious things that Toro does with the no shear pins quick stick, anti-clogging system, the hand warmers WHAT ELSE DO YOU NEED.. again two or three inches of snow just grab a good snow plow shovel be done in minutes..

My last one before we moved to Florida 3 years ago was an Ariens Platinum, I think 30 in. With a 389 cc Briggs polar force 16.5. That was a beast of a machine, which is what you need with 250+ inches a year. Hand warmers, zero turn (Ariens take on the differential). My buddy in Wisconsin has it now, still running strong. I ALSO LIKE THE SIMPLICITY OF THE TRANSMISSION ON THIS ONE!! they really did a good job revamping the 826. If you notice they got rid of the chain that used to be in the older bottles, and that's in the 828 and the others I think it's because the 826 has been kind of redesigned a little bit.. The way it used to be is they made the automatic steering turning differential connected to another chain and that chain was connected to another gear that turned the friction disc. Now they got rid of the chain and the extra gear made the differential gear much bigger as you can see how it sticks out of the transmission casing and is why they have to use a plastic cover now to make room for that bigger all-in-one gear. Instead of using the chain that big oversized gear is now turning the friction disk.. probably saves them money, less parts to break and grease. It's a win-win very smart. Toro was always innovating trying to make things better not just doing the same old crap. Like Ariens does.. If we never innovated we have no new technology and none of the awesome things we have in this day and age. Excellent for Toro. And not to mention according to consumer reports and other expert snowblower tests, the 826 outperformed all the other snowblowers and so did Toro in general. Toro was great they understand what matters and what doesn't..

Toro engines are built by the Loncin corporation in Chongqing, China. These engines meet or exceed all of Toro's requirements for power, torque, reliability, fuel consumption, ease of starting and sound level. The Toro Dealership close to me tell me the Toro branded engines are excellent engines. I have a Toro Power Max HD 1232 and it starts no matter how cold with the pull cord usually on the first pull. Always remember to open the fuel valve before priming the carburetor 3 or 4 times. The quick stick shoot control is the best in the industry. Toro also has the no clog impeller system that works extremely well no matter how wet and heavy the snow is. If looking for snow blowers that can handle any kind of snow condition without breaking the bank, Toro and Ariens are hard to beat. Thanks, Taryl for your excellent review of the Toro Power Max 826. Love your videos and small engine expertise.

I have the same snowblower and i'm seeing some common issues being reported by others: 1) IT'S TOO DAMN FAST IN 1ST - You can adjust it where the shifter meets the control rod to the transmission but it gets very sensitive and too much and 1st gear becomes reverse. 2) There's a ~1" welding "gap" where the bucket meets the chassis of the snowblower. It looks like it's by design but it seems odd and some have claimed that this is indication of fitment problem that led to the auger bearing seizing (i'm not seeing any stiffening of the bearing but i've only run it ~7hrs or so). Works great for me.

@@M.TTT. Exactly what the guy said You just going to move the friction disc to a different point to make first gear slower but it will make all the gears change. It will make first gear slower all the gear is going forward slower which is fine because they're already really fast. And turn it will make reverse gears quicker which is excellent.. backing up you're not snow blowing I want to back up quickly. You just take that connecting rod to the shifter there's a little piece on top you can turn I think you turn it clockwise a couple of turns and that's it link it back up and it's fixed. I mean just look at Taryl He likes to go fast but that's why he has a lot of leftovers on the sides. Everybody has their preference. That's why things are adjustable ;)

Hey Taryl, I know it could be costly if something went wrong, but I'd be interested in seeing how exactly that anti clog system works. Maybe instead of a live demonstration, you could just do a tear down? I quickly skimmed the parts manual for a 826OHAE and noticed the coil has 3 wires coming off it, and there's a killswitch in another diagram. Perhaps it has some type of safety kill switch built into the governor? When the engine runs below a set rpm it grounds the coil and kills the engine? It's a very interesting design if that's the case, and if it works everytime it may be superior to using shear pins.

As per Toros sales page; "...our exclusive Anti-Clogging System. This snow-smart innovation meters snow intake to reduce clogging and maximize clearing efficiency with no shear pins needed. Instead, if the heavy-duty auger strikes hard material the engine stalls to prevent damage." Hearing that, and looking at the coil with extra wires, I just assumed there's some type of electrical ground safety switch somewhere.

Great review Taryl. I have a Toro Power Max HD 1232 and love it. Plenty of power to move any kind of snow and has great traction. Blows snow 57 plus feet in the right kind of conditions. Toro's patented anti clog system really works well, and the quick stick is an amazing peace of engineering. All in all, I think Toro is leading the pack in innovation and ability to move snow in any kind of condition. Like any machine, regular maintenance is the key to longevity and a good running machine. And if you can find it in your area, use ethanol free fuel. I also use Sea Foam year-round in all my outdoor power equipment. Really helps keep carburetors clean and running smoothly. If possible, keep your snow blower in a building or at least cover and protect it from the elements. Especially during the off season. Leaving any kind of outdoor power equipment unprotected in the elements makes for a very bad investment. Really enjoy your videos, Taryl. Thanks for the review.

Nice, I have a really old Ariens my dad bought way back when, 32 in, put a brand new 10 horse on it before this season, tire chains, modded the impeller and it works great for my house, we get a LOT of snow. I got a Craftsman 45 in with dual wheels at a scratch and dent sale online a few years back, modded impeller, delrin shoes are awesome for customers with really long driveways that don't like them plowed. Wealthy people are nitpicky but the money's worth it. What does the dual pulley mod do?

He had the blower in too high a gear for the thickness of the snow. The wheels were spinning not because of a lack of traction, so much as due to the fact that the blower's ability to clear the snow was maxed out and it couldn't move at the speed he was attempting to drive it. When you are taking full cuts through snow that thick and heavy you shouldn't be using anything higher than first gear.

I inherited a Toro snowblower from my dad after he died. It doesn't have a differential drive and is a bear to turn around, even in the snow. Also, I bought an Ariens snowblower before that and they didn't think to put anti-seize on the axles. Rightly so. But inovations like these push the product towards more reliability and convenience for the consumer.

@muzikmon2267 2 жыл бұрын
@@WJCTechyman The best Toro snow blowers rival Hondas easily And they are hell of a lot cheaper.. Toro got rated the number one snowblower for performance overall over any other one. Apples to apples the Toro will win and save you a hell of a lot of money. The 1332 Honda which is one of the most popular ones cost almost $4,000.... Much harder to fix, much harder to find parts, much more expensive to buy the parts.. Toro knows what they're doing All of their technologies Honda hasn't done anything special. Just overpriced because it's Honda. At least Toro has tried New things and be inventive moving forward not backwards.. WHY TORO SNOW BLOWERS ARE BETTER? For instance with an 8 horsepower engine there 252 CC.. You would think you'd have trouble with some snow. But because of the INGENIOUS ANTI-CLOGGING SYSTEM by Toro you could have less horsepower but it will cut through better.. you'll get the performance of a 9 horsepower using an 8 horsepower engine. What's great about the anti-clogging system is that it throws A portion of the snow back into the auger.. What this does is break the snow up Make it lighter and aerate it more. Therefore it puts less pressure on the system, the belts, the engine, the gears it will throw the snow further and saving gas!! That's why a lot of times you'll see Toro snowblower snow be really light and fly all over the place in the wind.. because it's lighter because of the way the system works.. Let's not forget there NO SHEER PIN TECHNOLOGY THAT REALLY WORKS!! Happened to me firsthand with the new Toro battery power two stage power max E26. Essentially the same thing as the 826 just with the battery powered motor.. I HIT A CAR RIM WITH THE AUGER UNDERNEATH THE SNOW DIDN'T KNOW IT WAS THERE BAMB!! The machine stopped immediately. There was no damage done to anything. STARTED THE MACHINE BACK UP I WAS ON MY WAY BRILLIANT INGENIOUS!! LET'S NOT FORGET ABOUT THE QUICK STICK!! The quick stick is the best shoot control out there.. The smoothest, the fastest most reliable.. It works great.. again ingenious. Also what about their metal!! The metal used for the Toro is actually a little bit thinner than say an Ariens.. But it's actually STRONGER!! They use a special way of making their metal that makes their thinner metal stronger and lasts just as long as heavier metal while maintaining a lighter weight for easier maneuverability.. I MEAN WHAT ELSE DO YOU WANT!! 🤣 Toro seems to KNOW WHAT MATTERS AND KNOW WHAT DOESN'T!! They were the first snowblower company to ever make the stand behind snowblower for home use IN 1951!! And let's not forget they are american-based company.. well more American than any other company out there just like Ariens.. yeah some parts are made in China but you're still supporting an American company no matter what.. They don't sacrifice quality EVER!! yeah yeah yeah some people will say they made plastic shoots and use some plastic.. THEY'VE EXPLAINED THIS ON VIDEOS A FEW YEARS AGO!! They claim that some plastic when it's made correctly like the poly plastic can be just as strong as metal while being more slippery, never rusting and lasting longer than metal!! So why did they switch back to metal shoots? Because of the public complaining like little babies that they wanted metal because THEY'RE UNEDUCATED AND DON'T UNDERSTAND.. So Toro went back to metal shoots.. But there are dashboard is still plastic and so is there handles.. And some other parts like the quick stick. Which is plenty acceptable and will do just as good as metal and last just as long without rusting.. AGAIN THEY GET IT!! Their efforts not only Make the best products that last longer some of their snow blowers are still around after 50-60 years. By doing what they're doing they save themselves money and save you money.. Again brilliant. And ingenious!! Always trying to push the limits and be inventive.. If people did not always push the limits and try to make things better we'd have no technology and the country would never move forward.. ;)

I love my two stage and single stage. Both are Toro. I have the 826 oxe and my single stage is the 3650 two stroke. I use Benol racing oil for my 50:1 mix with grape scented gas perfume and all my neighbors love how the two stroke exhaust smells. Both machines are beasts. The 826 does have the trigger steer tranny. I pull both and free wheel it. It's easier. And it throws snow soooo far with that rooster tail effect. My 826 has the black molded chute instead of metal.

They are so right with the SHEAR BOLTS. Anyone wants to know if it works I'll be making a video soon but for now. I was snow blowing a couple weeks ago late February storm we had over here in New England. I didn't realize I had a rim my wife's car rim under the snow. It hit it!! BANG!! The machine stopped immediately.. I remove the rim. Start of the machine backup. Worked perfectly. No shear bolts, no tools BRILLIANT!! And no it did not try to keep going and wear out the belts like people are trying to say. It even will do this if you have heavy ice or icy snow that you're blowing It's really intuitive.. Toro's really good with staying ahead of the technology and always trying different things to make things better.. As for the anti-clogging system AGAIN BRILLIANT. I've done wet snow, heavy snow, sticky snow. Yeah some snow gets stuck behind the impeller. But nothing ever gets clogged never once. I really don't know of anyone that had a Toro snowblower with this system in it clog and they had to use that unclogging tool that comes with it. Again brilliant!!!
