Did everything you said except put fresh gas & oil in my snowblower tried to fire it up and same results. NOTHING. Not to mention that the gas was about 3yrs old cause thats how long my snowblower has been sitting in the basement. I went back at it the next day with fresh gas (I used premium) a new bottle of oil and a can of carb cleaner instead of the brake cleaner that I used the day before. Also I replaced the spark plug and cleaned out the gas container. Did everything in the video step by step. Gave it about 5 pumps pulled the cord twice and it fired right up. All in all I was out about $10 bucks for the gas, carb cleaner & a spark plug. Wayyy better than the hundred something dollars that the shop wanted to charge me. All in all excellent video. Thanks a lot sixtyfiveford

Gotta love free. These are GREAT machines and you will be very happy with it. At 1:23 you will see a little metal tab that the spring hooks to. Bending this towards or away from the carb sets the speed lower or higher. I would make sure that your main throttle butterfly moves freely first as it could be stuck in an open position.

Finally got it running!! After several attempts without the engine turning over I took the carburetor off again. I realized I had the bowl in the wrong position! The molded "branch" from the bottom of the bowl had to line up with the off-center hole at the bottom of the carb. That's the best way I can describe it. Once it was put back together, a couple of primes and on it went. Thanks for giving me and others for the confidence to try fixing it ourselves. Great video!!

That's great to hear. The ethanol they put in gas these days is very harsh on rubber(primer bulb, etc) and other parts. If you want to prevent issues I highly recommend finding a local station with ethanol free gasoline. There is a non-profit .org site that lists them by state: www.pure-gas.org . Most are around farming communities or small airports.

If an engine starts and at least runs but does not run good, the first thing I do is to add a few ounces of SeaFoam with the gas inside the tank. A lot of the time, it will clear partially clogged passages and run normally. Depending how bad, it will take anywhere from 15-30 minutes of run time. It doesn't always work but, I have had good results that have saved me from manually cleaning the carburetor!

G. Fortin Yeah, it's just the carb. With the new ethanol crap a snowblower will gum up the carb on a machine left outside in 3 months. Ultra sonic cleaners really don't do a thing on these tiny carbs. If the passages spray clear you're good to go.

Thanks for posting this! Great instructions! I have a Toro 2450 R-Tek that was running great last winter. I did not run the blower until it was out gas when storing it over the summer. Got our first snow and it was 10 degrees. Would not start for anything.... Came in, watched a few videos, including this one. I assume you’re working on an older model (3650)? My 2450 R-Tek only has 2 hex bolts that holds the lower rear cover in place. Removed the lower cover, got my carb cleaner, gave the carb and choke a bath without removing anything... Moved the choke to the right, turned key to ON, pushed the PRIMER button 4-5 times, pulled string 3-4 times and started right up. Moved lever to run... It did smoke allot for the first 5 min. though but after that she ran smooth. Put the cover back on and proceeded to clean the driveway.
@sixtyfiveford11 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the snow blower in this video is an early 2000's. Now that everywhere has ethanol in the gasoline you can't get away with leaving fuel in anything longer than a couple months. Ethanol evaporates very quickly leaving behind only the oil you added to the fuel. It also attracts moisture out of the air almost instantly and the water sinks under the fuel(where the carb picks it up). This will prevent it from starting as it only has water to suck up and the water corrodes the internal parts.
@chuckbrand29811 жыл бұрын

Hi. At minute 1:06 you loosen the 2 screws to remove the carb. What is that brass part you have your thumb on? Mine as gas in it and it appears that sometimes it overflows and drips to the floor. It seems like this would be the spot for an air filter! Is it supposed to have gas in it?
@sixtyfiveford10 жыл бұрын
***** That is just an air deflector so the carb can pull warm air off the engine. Since snowblowers don't operate in dusty environments there are no air filters. Gas should not be sitting it there. This means your needle/seat are leaking and the carb is flooding.
@akbaxb1658 жыл бұрын
Sixtyfiveford, thanks for your video and the insight. I've replaced the plastic carburetor with a new metal one - B/S carburetor # 801396, which I believe has an idle adjustment screw. The snow blower starts okay but appears to "hunt" when the control arm is pushed down. When I adjust the governor tab along with the idle speed screw, the hunting (surging) goes away. Next I would like to set the maximum RPM to between 2500 and 3800, per the owner's manual for my CCR 2450 snowblower. Right now using a tachometer, I have set the RPM at about 2500 to get rid of the hunting. My next question is that if I were to increase the RPM to, say 3200 (assuming that the hunting does not come back, in which case, I will have to backtrack to 2500 RPM), how do I measure the idle speed on the tachometer? I am assuming that the tachometer will likely give me fluctuating RPM values, a low value (idle speed?) and a high value (maximum speed?) at times. If I were to leave the speed at 2500, will it be powerful enough to blow the snow. Any advice and help in the matter is greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.
@sixtyfiveford8 жыл бұрын
First, these won't ever idle in their snowblower configuration. They run full throttle all the time and pulling the bail handle only engages the paddles and doesn't change the rpm from an idle to fast. The engine should be set to run at around 3800rpm. I think the "2500" your seeing is spec for the ccr2450 and the ccr2500 to run at 3800 not the ccr2450 to run between 2500-3800rpm. 2500rpm is too slow to do anything. So set it at approx 3800rpm and you're done.
@akbaxb1657 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for your advice, Sixtyfiveford. With a break in the weather I have been able to work on my snowblower. Using Tachometer I have been able to set the speed at 3800, more or less. However, when I hold down the bail control arm (not removing any snow), the speed goes down to about 2700 from 3800, per tachometer. Is this normal? BTW, I have been able to fix the surging issue. I think the problem was due to the pulley shaft rubbing against the belt cover, which I ended up pushing out a bit with a hammer. Please note that the new carburetor is a metal one, available via Amazon and other sites. It appears to have a fuel/air mix screw. I have been able to get a very very low price from a site in China. Thanks again for your guidance and mentoring. www.amazon.ca/Briggs-Stratton-801396-Carburetor-Replaces/dp/B006MWSSUE

The rpm shouldn't drop that much just from engaging the auger. It should only drop a few hundred and maybe drop 1000 rpm if it is heavily loaded with throwing snow.

thanks for the video ,it helped . my question is how do/can you adjust the choke wire to operate the choke properly? i noticed that the choke lever just pushes in without moving the choke at all. Thanks Steve
@sixtyfiveford10 жыл бұрын
SuperDragonWagon It shouldn't ever need adjustment. If the choke isn't moving then the lever end isn't in the corresponding hole on the carb.

thats a possibility i will test and post back with results. what should it be 100 or better?
@sixtyfiveford11 жыл бұрын
Yeah, you want at least around 100. After the initial test pour a teaspoon of oil in through the plug hole and do a second test. This will let you know how worn the rings are.

thanks for the video. My ccr 2450 would not start with new plug and new gas. Followed all your steps and re installed. Still would not start unless i sprayed carb cleaner in choke plate after which it started first pull and ran great till burned off and then quit. noticed my primer line was split. Any suggestions?
@sixtyfiveford11 жыл бұрын
The primer pumps air into the carb fuel bowl. There is displaces fuel and fuel is forced up into the throat of the carb to aid in cold starting. Without it, it is very difficult to cold start these engines. An engine that will not continue to run even with choke on is a clogged main jet.

Everything went smooth and even got a kit to replace all the gaskets but still couldn't get it to turn over. It runs a little when I spray carb cleaner directly into the carburetor but dies shortly after. I have a feeling it's something with my gas, so I am going to try some new gas and oil. Any other suggestions?
@sixtyfiveford11 жыл бұрын
Sounds like gas isn't getting to the carb. I would pull the fuel line and see if gas rushes out. Also if the gas is older there is a good chance that it has a layer of water on the bottom from the Ethanol absorbing it from the air. This will keep it from starting, but you will need to empty the carb fuel bowl as it may have water as well.

back to square one doing the same thing cleaned carb replaced govenor spring. it seems to me like the spring is not strong enough to hold throttle where it needs to be and govenor pulls to idle. runs great with good power for about 5 min and thats it. also running fresh mix with a good toro oil. im lost on this one maybe carb needs replaced
@sixtyfiveford11 жыл бұрын
If it runs fine for 5 minutes I would rule out the governor spring and carb itself. I sounds like a spark or fuel delivery issue. When it dies can you restart it? Do you have to wait a certain amount of time before a restart?

Do you have a fix for a worn out stud that holds the choke lever in its positions? My choke lever free rotates. I'm sure if you look at one you can see the stud I'm referring to. Thanks
@sixtyfiveford4 жыл бұрын
I've repaired them before. Honestly you use choke so infrequently You could just make sure it stays open all the time by wedging something.

After I cleaned the carb, my 3650 is still surging. Did I miss something? I put in the correct spark plug too.
@sixtyfiveford5 жыл бұрын
@ 5:36 If you can not get cleaner to flow out the bottom then the idle jet is clogged and needs cleaning. It is located under the black sticker with numbers on it. Remove the sticker and pull out the brass jet(not shown in the video because mine flowed correctly). Surging is an idle circuit problem.

When we removed the float, the rubber-tip needle fell off. How does the needle attach to the float bracket. The thin wire doesn't seem to do anything. Help!
@sixtyfiveford10 жыл бұрын
The needle just hangs by the wire. The wire hangs off the little tab on the float. So the tab on the float pushes directly on the top of the needle and the wire is over the top of the tab. Confusing to write, but I hope it makes sense.
@LHA121410 жыл бұрын
sixtyfiveford We finally decided last night to attach it as best we could with the wire and just put it in the needle seat. At first it didn't start and we noticed the primer bulb was staying inverted after pushing it. We sprayed carb cleaner in the connecting line and it started! The primer bulb is still sticking, so we are wondering if the vacuum pressure is messed up because of something we did when we reassembled the carb. Thank you so much for your very helpful video and advice! You are awesome :)

I have a 15 year-old ccr3650, I have had a Toro dealer servicing it for me. Last year it developed a fuel leak. Dealer serviced it: "Cleaned carb out, removed bowl gasket and flipped [the gasket]. That seemed to take care of the fuel leak." The explanation was that they can't get replacement bowl gaskets. That worked for about a month; then started leaking again. Other than needing extra priming for a cold start it runs fine. Suggestions?

sixtyfiveford Thanks! A question about the electric start: The motor spins but does not engage. Began with nasty gear clashing noises. How difficult to fix?
@sixtyfiveford9 жыл бұрын
Usually it just needs some wd-40 on the starter gear.

Thanks for the video. My snowblower has the flooding/dripping gas issue. How do I tell if the needle is stuck or is damaged and needs to be replaced? Once it's started, it runs fine. Gotta get the pool of gas fixed when it's not running.
@sixtyfiveford11 жыл бұрын
The easiest way to tell if it is salvageable is by blowing through it. With the carb off and cleaned, hold it upside down. With your mouth directly on the fuel inlet or a scrap piece of fuel line, blow. The weight of the float by itself should 100% seal the air from from your mouth. Pick up the float and allow it to fall by itself. Test it a few times. If even the tinniest amount of air is heard leaking through it is bad and needs replacing(if you already cleaned it).

Thanks for the excellent video. One question though, when installing back the carburetor, should there be gaskets before the spring plate (called anchor-spring on Toro website) and one after the spring plate. Thanks in advance for your help in the matter.
@sixtyfiveford11 жыл бұрын
If I recall there is not one between the carb and spring anchor. Just one after.

Hello. Great video. Thanks. I have a 2450 that I rebuilt. I bought the kit (mistake number one). My needle was a different size. I am using the original needle because the new one was taller. I reinstalled everything. It started right up. Ran for about 20 mins. When I shut it off it wouldn't start up again. Now the snow blower is leaking. I made sure the gaskets were on correct. Do you know if the little clip for the needle has to be tight on the float? Thanks again. Paul
@sixtyfiveford9 жыл бұрын
+Paul Hrdlicka Sounds like your needle/seat are leaking and flooding the engine. This could just be debris.

Hey there, really appreciate your videos! I have a CCR 2450 that surges - runs smooth on half/full choke, but surges up and down with the choke off. I took the carb apart and cleaned it with aerosol carb cleaner like you showed here. I took our the screw underneath the sticker like you mentioned below, but it's still not running smooth. I'm going to try again and run the copper wire through it all, but thought I'd get a moderate fix with just the spray. What should I look at next?? Thanks!!

@sixtyfiveford9 жыл бұрын
S Plas It just needs a little carb cleaner sprayed into the mouth of the carb to dissolve the old gas. Then work the butterfly back and forth until it moves freely.
