Pro tip: Just hold the spark plug tip or threads (metal) against a metal portion of the engine (with boot/wire attached) and have someone pull the cord a couple times. You can see if it sparks or not. Free.

Thanks for the vid! You would think they would make a spark detector that emitted an audible tone, as well as showing the spark, sort of like those non-contact voltage testers.

Hey dude good video! I went to dollar tree and picked up a small mirror, nailed it to the wall about 2 ft of the ground. Push the mower up to it, turn off the lights and can see the spark, if there is one.

I also work by myself all the time and I got a yellow electric type spark tester that cost 80. Dollars It’s worth it You need one 😊

Looks like somebody replaced the whatchmadinger ontop of the watchamacallit. I'm curious about the magneto. Sometimes brushing the rust off the connections helps.

I have had luck many times cleaning the rust off of the coil. I think the rust barrier affects the magnetic field required to create spark...

I'm having this problem at the moment with the Tecumseh need an ignition coil no spark! already put a new carburetor so hopefully the new coil will get it going again

With the Tecumseh I only pull the bowl nut because this is the main jet .This is usually the problem and it quick to do , leaving the carb on.

Thats a quick and dirty it works many times, but not always, sometimes the throttle body is also all gummed up, than you got no choice, full carb service. Just tried it on a 10 flathead Snowking, no dice, body had to come off, 45 minute cook in the ultra with simple green, runs good as new!

Do you have a lawn sprinkler going or do you have a big ass rattlesnake near you? It sounds like you're at the reptile house at the circus. BTW a great video and I hate not having a spark because that just leads to more of a teardown and process of elimination, plug wire, points and or coil.

I like throwing them into simple green solution in my ultra and letting it cook. I than rinse it off, blow it out and re-assemble, good as new! Check me out over at Mr. Tecumseh. Just brought a 10hp flathead Snowking back, their finest engines.

3100 +/- 150 is spot on on these push mower engines. 3300 max, but than the engine is working harder and using the oil much more rapidly. 2900 and they can go forever.

Did everything you did up to and including replacing the coil and plug. Still no spark. Disconnected the kill wire, put starting fluid in the cylinder, replaced spark plug; still no combustion. Not sure what else to try. Anyone, any ideas? thanks

I don't trust the inline spark tester. I had a test that showed spark but the plug was shorted. Bad plug. I now pull the plug and ground the threads then look for spark.
