Thx , new subscriber, I am fixing the exact mower right now. I’ve had it running twice before . Not sure if her kids sabotage her mower and say it doesn’t work so they don’t have to cut the grass . We are going to follow your lead on this and tell her to never let any of her kids touch it ever again. The woodruff key was broken off this time . W t heck. He must drive it down the concrete stairs hahaha

Great step by step video. I replaced the blade adapter, blade, retainer, bolt, carburetor, air filter, oil change, cleaned gas tank, and new fuel. Lawnmower Troy Built TB110 will not crank over. I did remove the ignition module, and i didn't reinstall it properly. I'm going to install the ignition module your way and I'll repost my outcome. Thanks for the help and video

This video earned you a subscriber. Very detailed and knowledgeable troubleshooting tips. Most of the internet is filled with "cleaned the carburetor" or "change the oil". This is the first bit of advice I've seen that goes into the issues surrounding the ignition coil, ground wire and flywheel. Hoping this will fix the issue with my mower. I have a spark plug tester coming in tomorrow. Thanks for the video and most importantly, the knowledge you shared with us!

Your method works if you have a spare coil. You can test the existing coil with an ohm meter. Connect one lead to the inside of the spark plug boot making sure you contact the metal inside. Connect the other probe to the engine block. The resistance should be around 3-4 K ohms. THis test can be done without removing the coil.

Ohmmeter test doesn't work on my coil. I have two cylinder and one side works the other side doesn't, so I assume one coil is good. They both fail the ohmmeter test, even the good one. Swapped polarity, same thing.

Thanks Josh, my John Deere E 140 quit during my last cut. I saw gas in the filter and it would crank strong. Thinking I have a ignition problem, I pulled the plugs expecting wet plugs. The plugs were dry, which surprised me. I grounded the plugs and saw no spark. This is a twin with 2 magnetos. I watched your video and I pulled both ground wires off and got a good spark. I put the covers and shrouds back on, and it started right up. I am thinking I have a bad interlock somewhere or a shorted ground wire. For now, I just have to be careful because I can get off the tractor while the blades are engaged. Thanks again. I didn't suspect the magnetos because the odds of both failing at the same time seemed highly unlikely.

Nice video. I went through all of the steps and still had no spark. Finally found the problem. The cable from the starter cable was too long. It wasn't disengaging the kill switch where the grounding cable connects to. Once I shortened the cable (search on "How to Adjust Lawnmower Cable" on KZbin), the lawnmower started on first pull.

Man I've replaced the fuel line, carburetor, spark plug, cleaned the head, replaced the gasket and nothing. Started fine until one day the recoil snatched out of my hand. I unplugged the plug and reached under and spun the blade around and even sprayed some penetrating oil. I'm kind of knew to repairing these so excuse me if that sounded like a waist of time. Just trying something to see what works. The last thing I'm on is that ignition coil. After that I'll probably have to let it go. I took the coil off and just screwed it back on. I'll do your card trick and see if that helps something. Thanks for the video

Very good info and video. I have collected 3 newer lawnmowers and have them in my barn; none have any spark. I am wondering why coil failure with these small engines is so common? But, in seeing this video, maybe it isn't the coil, but I'll bet it is. Thanks again.

Back in the 70's, I had to replace the fly wheel! How to test; if the fly wheel can hold on to a LARGE head screwdriver, then it's good, if it won't, then replace it. Point is, it CAN happen. 😁👍 (Before electronic ignition, I almost never had to change the coil, then it was usually from some kind of damage )

i just put a new tip on the secondary. one that is a crimp style not a coil of steel with a spike pocked through the insulation. hoping that it contacts the wire in the high voltage leed. That starts to arc and burn the spike end.
