Everyone’s holding their breath, waiting to see the pressure washing video on Thursday when we get to see water coming out and turning to icicles as it hits this machine! 😂😉🥶 I had a thought - how about an enclosed, heated pressure washing booth attached to the back side of the building that you drive through on your way inside? Call it The Small Engine Car Wash! 😉😂👍 Seriously, in response to your comment about bringing a dripping wet machine into the shop - two things. Water evaporates but all the trash has to be cleaned up off the floor and everywhere else it lands. The other thing is, I always blow off most of the water before bringing anything inside - my compressor is just inside my garage door for that reason. I understand you’d rather not waste time and effort if a machine ends up not being repaired. The question is, what percentage of equipment really ends up in that category? I guess most of us would prefer to leave the debris and oily grime outside and be able to see everything clearly, working in a more or less clean environment. It’s a nicer environment and much easier to very carefully visually examine a machine in a clean condition. A close, careful inspection is for me the first step on any job. Just my 3 cents, Martin! 😉🥶

Haha this is what the AI auto response comes up with below your message "It would take too long to do that for every machine that comes in. I just clean off anything I need to work on at that moment". Interesting stuff they are coming out with. I would say 5-7 percent is not worth repair that I check out and/or estimate. This would end up being 20 plus hours at the low end per year I would waste on something like this. I understand the want for a clean machine while fixing a machine but it really is a want not a necessity. With our operation it just doesn't make much sense, in most cases to pressure was first. To clean before/during and pressure wash again after depending on the job would be very time consuming and our output would lack. A heated pw booth would be awesome though! As always I appreciate your 3 cents

Was given a Husqvarna YTH 24/48 because of a blown engine. Oil was all over the engine. After inspection come to find out the oil filter was loose. Only thing that was wrong with the mower. 👍

Wow that is one good Husqvarna with all being wrong with it! For some reason on the Briggs v twin I see probably 40 or 50 filters loose every year. Kind of crazy I wonder why just on those maybe too close to the engine base so people can't grip as well?

From what I gathered, when a briggs carb has a curved gas inlet, and straight hose, it usually is the carb for lower horsepower, 16.5hp and below, and the ones with the straight gas inlet, and the curved hose is 17hp and above, single cylinder on both, just what I have noticed over the years.

Hi Martin, Since you said the mower would be power-washed after you finished, why not do that before you begin repairs? I do all of my work inside my house's garage. My mower would not be allowed inside until I cleaned it. After washing my mower, I use my leaf blower to remove water. Why do you not use a torque wrench when tightening bolts? I usually have a problem remembering which bolt, screw, or rod goes where. To eliminate this, I use a paint-type marking pen, marking each one with a color and where they go. This is especially helpful when dealing with connecting rods. This way, I know where each rod goes and which hole they go into.
@IndRepair
@IndRepair 27 күн бұрын
If you power wash before then the mess during the repair has to be cleaned off again either power washing or wiping down again. Using a leaf blower only eliminates so much water and that drips all over the floor and equipment inside. I use a paint pen very often to do the same but some repairs only have 10-12 bolts which are easy for me to remember where they go
@outlet6989
@outlet6989 26 күн бұрын
@@IndRepair I didn't say to use the leaf blower inside your shop or my garage. To clear things up, power wash and use the leaf blower on the mower outside your shop. Except for a few water drops, my mower is nearly water-free after blowing the water off, like my car. I sometimes have only two bolts to reinsert, and I still can't remember which should go where. Especially if I take a few days off before I continue my repairs.

When I service the air cleaner on my machine, I like to put a rag down in the hole to keep dirt out. When I went to the shed to get my machine to mulch leaves it acted like the smart choke was stuck in the choke mode. So I pushed it to the shop to check out the issue and lo and behold I had left the rag in the air cleaner hole. Engine couldn't get any air to run. What's funny is after I serviced the air filter and left in the rag, I drove it from the shop to the shed without any problem. Go figure...

Haha that is great! I have someone once tell me he just replaced the sump gasket on a Kohler 19 and it was locked up. When I opened it up there was a rag left inside. Did absolutely no damage just got it out and everything got put back together and worked perfect. Got to love it

In 1949 at age 19 I worked at a Lincoln/Mercury agency. First thing I was told Clean the outside of the engine before doing any repairs. Today, at age 94 I use the power washer to clean anything that needs repairing, and that would include a carburetor. I would have been fired if I started working on an engine such as a Zero turn carb. without cleaning the outer parts first. Of course, in today's world they don't teach such manners.
@IndRepair
@IndRepair 16 күн бұрын
Definitely a thing that helps if you are inexperienced when being taught something like this. As you get older you learn to do things different. I am glad this stuck with you and it is a good practice but not cleaning it first does nothing other than make people feel better. I clean it afterwards and keep dirt out during the process. Manners are non-existent anymore it seems

Did not clean out the oil and debris laden cooling fins on the side and bottom of the cylinder. Then ran it with no fan shroud making it very hot as evidenced by the cloud of smoke coming from oily debris at the end.
@IndRepair
@IndRepair Ай бұрын
Definitely cleaned the cooling fins out well but they were not even plugged or have any debris in them. Your mower will definitely not overheat running it without the fan shroud for 20 minutes in normal weather let alone when it is 10 degrees outside. The smoke is coming from the oily residue on the muffler. See the video release tomorrow that clearly shows where the smoke is coming from. Any time you have this much buildup you are going to get some smoking for a while. Muffler hot
