I think the degraded o - rings in the carburetor were the issue along with the fuel flow from the fuel filter. Problems like the one this mower displayed are difficult as the mower runs when it is in the shop and then it doesn't when the customer has it. In this case, there could be multiple issues causing the customer's concerns. Also, time - whether its is your time or your customer's time matters in this case. You want to keep your customers happy and returns/call backs to a minimum for both the customer and yourself. Going through everything should keep call backs to a minimum and customers happy. Nice video - Happy New Year!

The float needle was probably stuck off. Or that tiny gasket around the two jets was probably askew. I don't think any jets were plugged but maybe.

There was a good amount of fuel in the bowl didn't seems that way but could have been. I was thinking probably the one between the carb and the fuel tube was probably leaky strange one

Could you use a temp fuel supply to see whether or not fuel was the problem before emptying the tank? Or once you put everything back together and running, see if it'll run off the original gas. 34:05😮

Hi Martin, and a Happy New Year. After I saw how dirty that mower was my first step would be to power wash it. I mounted a paper towel holder to the side of my work bench. When I want clean paper I only have to pull new paper towels accross my work bench. A Mini-Vac is a handy tool to have when working on mowers. Octane test strips are available which will show you the octaine rating of the gas in the mower's tank.
@IndRepair29 күн бұрын
Happy New Year to you also! I very rarely pressure wash first, normally done after the job is complete so I don't work on dripping wet equipment. I do have a large shop vac I use often to clean filthy stuff but mostly just blow everything off with the air nozzle

@@IndRepair Thank you for your reply. After I pressure wash my mower, I use my leaf blower to remove the water. I also use it after I wash my car.

I believe you did the right thing cleaning the carb and everything. If not it would have been back. Mine is getting a new one this year plus a valve job. Down time sucks when your needing your equipment. This was the best time to do it. Nothing is growing in this cold crappie weather.

I'll tell you what Martin that engine configuration is for the birds. Using pliers to start the bowl screws out on this style is always a plus. All that trouble to get the carb off and it's spotless.... very disheartening for sure. I dropped that small right side jet at my bench 2 years ago, still haven't found it. You did a good job, nice video bud. 👍

Crazy stuff there! Never liked the sideways design. Those EFI Kohlers are even worse! Darn brass won't even gather on the magnet stick may be lost forever lol. Thank you!

Definitely not to fuel in my opinion. O-rings Gaskets had to be changed out in the carburetor and I do not like this Nikki style of carburetor at all. I have the same style of kawasaki engine on my gravely and it would not start. Problem was the choke cable not fully opening up the choke. Had to loosen the spring and address the cable. I Believe the customer when it is a commercial customer. As usual Martin, Your thoroughness and completeness to ensure that the repair is done and done correctly. Nice work, which is why I think you're one of the best in the business! Happy New Year to you with safety and prosperity to you and the family. 🎉 👍👍👍 💥

Informative video. I am trying to figure out if it was bad gas. An auxiliary tank with fresh fuel straight to the fuel pump would have ruled out fuel and possibly saved on a bunch of parts being changed and saved customer money.
@IndRepairАй бұрын
Definitely! Never seen one looked and smelled good (to me) and was a fuel issue but that would have cleared it up quick!

That Kawasaki carb is pretty detailed to rebuild. I’ve rebuilt lots of outboard carbs etc. seem much simpler than that. Haven’t done many lawnmower carbs but man those things are dirty.

I think it was one of the tiny brass jets that was partially clogged. Anyhow, the fresh paint on the floor in the adjacent room is looking great! Are you using regular deck paint or or going with epoxy? Can’t wait to see your space finished as well, buddy! 👍
@IndRepairАй бұрын
That could be the case! We are just using an enamel of some sort. I would love to do epoxy but that price tag was very high for the entire front. Just pressure washed the entire front except for the part that was already painted (where we moved everything) It will look great when it is done. I can't wait!

So , you do have an air compressor ? Why would you not blow off most of that dirt and other stuff even before removing any parts before starting to take the carburetor off ?
@IndRepairАй бұрын
Clean when it is on vs off doesnt help much. Just personal preference which way you do it. If someone can't be careful about not getting something in the intake when removing the repair will not go well anyway

Hello Martin, I was wondering ,when you sprayed carburetor cleaner into the carburetor and it fired up would it make sense to also try squirting the “suspected bad gas” into the carburetor immediately afterwards to see if it also would fire up. This way you would know if gas is bad or not. Just a thought. I enjoy all your videos and learn so much from them. Keep them videos coming! Happy New Year to you!

I have a 2018 bobcat 52 inch zero turn. 178 hrs. 23 h.p. Kawasaki. While using, suddenly started flooding terribly. Black smoking. Rebuilt carb, it looked great, inside. No, apparent issues. No change. Replaced carb, new. New fuel filter and air filter, still floods. Floods so bad, it barely runs, then shuts off. Can here a buzzing sound, under the seat, with key on. Any suggestions? Greatly, appreciated. If, you will.
@IndRepairАй бұрын
Hmm...I would check oil for gas first. If no gas present pinch off the fuel line and see if it will start and run well right before shutting down. If it does we know the fuel pump is overpressurizing the carburetor causing the issue
