I got a B&S oil suction pump and it’s amazing!!! I service my 3 mowers multiple times a year and it makes life so much easier and ZERO mess nor the need to tip mowers plus it holds the oil too. Also allows you to see and inspect the oil afterwards. It’s a wise $35ish investment and you will love it!

Have a 17 year old Honda mower with the fill/drain spout even lower than on your Toro. It makes draining the oil even more difficult. I use a disposable low-profile (2") aluminum baking pan so I can actually get it partially under the mower so when I tilt it over, I don't spill a drop onto my driveway. Then I just transfer the oil to my recycle container. I do the SeaFoam fuel process as well. What I have found to be most helpful preserving the fuel system is to time my mow to where I close the "Fuel-Shut-Off" at a specific point at the end of my mow so that it burns through all of the fuel by the time I get back over to my garage.This way there is little to no fuel left in the fuel-bowl/carb to linger and potentially gum things up. It is especially useful during the winter months when I am not mowing nearly as much. I also add about a cap full (not the spray can cap, the pour-type can) into the engine oil before the last mow before the oil change (about an hour). This is especially helpful since lawnmowers generally do not have oil filters. It is a function of SeaFoam to work in the oil to clean carbon deposits as well as the fuel system. They say it does not reduce the viscosity of the oil. I also use Mobil-1 Synthetic. I used to use 10w-30 as you do but now that my Honda is over 17 years old and the tolerances are assuredly larger I use 10w-40. I too live in south Florida where I am mowing year-round and in high heat from May through October so the synthetic might only give me peace of mind, but I figure it can't hurt. I also add a cap full of "Bestline Engine Treatment" to the oil for good measure. Same goes for my other power equipment.

You crack me up, I subbed, I just picked up one of these from an old man who didn't want it anymore cause the battery on the keystart died, and he can't use the pull rope cause of his age, he has a guy who does the lawn maintenance, and when he couldn't come the guy would mow it himself, so the time master was only used like 4 times since he bought it new, it doesn't have a scratch on it, the blades still have paint on them, and the underside is still shiny, and the tires still have nubs on them, it was covered in dust, all it needed was a good carb cleaning, oil change, which I agree with you, with the synthetic 10w30, I have run my own shop for years now, and have worked on small engines since I was 6, and I am 50 now so I know a few things, new battery, and a nice bath, it looks brand new, and the best part, he wanted it gone, his words, get it out of my sight, got it for his asking price... 50 bucks, it runs perfectly works great, and is the best mower I have ever owned, a lot of people knock this mower, it's because they don't know how to properly maintain a small engine, I can imagine how their cars are maintained, it's a great mower and your lawn is very nice, thanks for all the tips, and tricks and humor, looking forward to watching your videos tks keep em coming.

A shower curtain can melt from contact with hot oil. It may work if you drain your oil when cold but then again that is not the proper way to change oil
@jerryf24266 жыл бұрын
Allen, Worm oil flows better, but it also means that the settled dirt etc. that settles when the oil is cold is now in suspension from operating the engine to worm the oil and the draining now gets more contaminants out and the fresh oil stays cleaner longer with less wear particles in it..
@shawnd5677 жыл бұрын
I use a 5w-30 full synthetic in my mowers up here in Minnesota. 5w helps in spring, fall cold starts. Zero oil burn off, even in my 30 y/o mower. Saves money compared to buying "sae 30 mower oil." Also use Iridium spark plugs for super easy starts and longer run times. My drain plugs are under the motor, and I use 4 ammo cans to lift it.

Brian D. Part of the idea behind warming the engine up prior to dumping the oil is to keep all the “stuff” in suspension when the oil is changed. If it’s stuck to the bottom of the sump, then it’s likely to stay there no matter how you change the oil. The only thing to watch with the evacuators is some sumps have a raised area under the dipstick tube and you can’t quite reach the very bottom.

Mobile1 is good oil but I like and use Pennzoil Platinum 10W-30 in all of my four cycle engines. Some folks say that small engines will use 10W-30 oil at a faster clip than the standard SAE 30W oil, but I have not found that to be the case. Last year I ran my 5KW generator for 24 hours, as an operation test, and the oil level on its 11.5HP engine was the same at the end of the test as it had been at the beginning of the test and it was over 90+ degrees, outside, during most of the test. The only thing it consumed was gas - about 12 gallons.

I live in a similar climate in Corpus Christi, TX with a LCN inspired Bermuda lawn. I mow year round. I have a fantastic Toro Super Recycler, as LCN endorsed in the past. Here’s what I do: change oil every 3 months with b&s strait 30, compression test, and sharpen blade. Every third oil change I also check and reset the valves. Checking the valves is really important and would be a great maintenance video. BTW I also only run non ethanol fuel treated with marine stabilizer and k100 year round.

Unless you are using your mower for commercial use, I think 3 oil changes a year is a bit obsessive IMO. But hey, it ain't gonna hurt it.

Hey big guy, just came across this video. Just wanted to say that your holding your oil bottle upside down when your filling your mower. If you keep the spout on the top then you wont have an air trap effect when your try to empty it. Which is really helpful when your trying to start your pour and not make a huge mess.
@TonysLawnCare215 Жыл бұрын

That’s a good thing that you’re using ethanol free gas. That is really good to use in any outdoor power equipment because it contains no ethanol, therefore it lasts a lot longer and won’t attract moisture as fast. Also, I use the same oil in my Exmark Radius, my Toro recycler, and I have to use dexos 5w-30 in my truck and Mobil 1 makes that.

Rather than holding the drain pan in one hand while trying to tip and control the mower with the other, push a piece of clear flexible tubing about 6" long into the oil fill hole. The outside diameter of the tubing must be large enough so it fits very snug inside the hole and will not fall out or leak. Just push it in far enough so it seals against the inside of the hole. This allows you to keep both hands on the mower with the drain pan on the ground and out from under the mower while you tip it. Once the oil flow slows down, pull out the tube and let the remaining oil drain. Lowes and HD sell clear flexible tubing in a variety of sizes. 7/8" O.D. tubing works perfectly on my B&S 6.5 HP.

Do a story on your background in the lawn fert and amendments industry. That's a cool story that you would reference from time to time in the past but do a dedicated vid on it. Find a patch of turf in poor shape somewhere on public grounds and show your skillz in resurrecting it.

Allyn, I have noticed you cut your lawn in the same direction. I have heard it's a good idea to change up the cutting direction/pattern. I change my cutting direction/pattern weekly. Am I wasting my time? Is there any truth to this?

Dave Challis yeah good question. They say if you keep mowing in the same direction over time you’ll leave ruts in the Lawn.

I have poor drainage, I know it benefits me to change it up weekly.

Lay'r Down!!! Hey LCN, thanks for the vid. It'll be nice when I change my oil in my new Toro Recycler II. All prior mowers had the drain plug in the bottom of the crankcase.

They do have drain plug under mower.

I bought a mower last year. I have not changed the oil. It still runs. What will happen to my mower?
