Both make a good mower, depends on what you want out of a mower. BUT I just sold a Toro Zmaster and bought a Ferris isx800 and absolutely love the Ferris. There is no comparison for the ride it offers. No regrets. Looked at the MyRide before buying the Ferris and still no comparison, Ferris has the absolute best riding mower out there.

First thing I do when I buy a new Z Turn is remove those pulley covers! All they do is trap grass under the pulleys. Next I remove the chute and add a chute blocker. That way I can use the mower as a mulcher for leaves, or block off the chute if I'm in a tight spot to stop blowing the grass into the landscaping.

The comment made about coming to a stop/slow down, and scalping is not accurate. The deck is linked to the suspension. As the suspension is compressed, the deck raises, and when the suspension is extended the deck lowers. This is a great feature on the Simplicity/Ferris deck suspension design.

The body on a Ferris may nose dive on a hard deceleration but the deck does not as it is suspended off the wheels not the body so it does not produce a lower cut in the front when this occurs. Unlike for instance putting a set of Flex Forks on a Hustler then when it nose dives under hard deceleration it will cut lower when this occurs. I've owned 4 Ferris machines including the 5100 diesel 72 and loved each including the two I currently own. NO mower rides as good as a Ferris.

Doesn't that essentially make it the same as the Toro then in this video? You have wheels + deck as the bottom platform then the rest on top. With shocks between.

I’m with you. Just took delivery of a Ferris ISX2200 which is the newer version of the one in this video. I’ve got a bumpy yard due to over a dozen very large Silver Maples that send out roots right at the surface in some areas. I have berms and hills too. The Ferris is like taking a Lazy Boy on a ride around the yard. No comparison to any of the other zero turns or tractors I’ve driven. You’ll love it. The ISX2200 also has an upgraded deck. Very smooth cut and I haven’t noticed the nose-dive scalping that he discussed in the video. Mine has a 60” deck and I was concerned about scalping as I am retiring a John Deere with a 48” deck. I don’t know how they did it, but the Ferris has much less tendency to scalp than the old JD. A couple of things that I don’t like about the Ferris is locking mechanism for folding/extending the ROPS bar. It consists of a 1/2” round bar with a hitch pin on each side. It’s fiddly to say the least. The other thing is the mechanism to hold the discharge chute cover vertically when the extra clearance is needed is a joke. It doesn’t hold the chute all the way up and releases even with just some minor jostling when parking in my barn. I fabricated a temporary solution this morning and am just waiting for the paint to dry to install it. But I shouldn’t have to do that. The chute is real nice though. It’s thick reinforced rubber that’s over 1/4” thick with no corners to impede grass discharge. It broadcasts the clippings very nicely.

My first ztr was a Ferris 2009 model IS500z with 52" deck. Replaced it with a Ferris IS2000z with 52" deck fall of 2015. What made me go Ferris is my 3 acre yard is fairly bumpy. Loved the IS500z, rode good, cut good and very little trouble. I upgraded to the IS2000z after my daughter bought a house 1 mile from mine. She has a 2 acre yard so my mower cuts 5 acres at a time. I know these are older units compared to the test but I still feel somewhat relevant. The 2000 was a noticeable improvement in ride, which a Ferris has a good ride, and cut. The 2100 replaced the 2000 and now it is called the 2200. In 2014 the IS2000sz with a 52" deck and 28hp Briggs motor was around 9k even. The person I bought it from, an older gentleman with 1 acre, purchased it leftover for 7.8k spring of 2015. Sold it to me with 12.1 hrs for $6500 fall of 2015. I felt like I had stolen it. They will scalp it you stop fast at speed. Or stop and back up fast. You just need to keep your movements fluid and it doesn't ever scalp my bumpy yard. Ride and cut are much better on the IS2000z over the older IS500z. For 14K I would think you are near Ferris IS3300z price. Most all brands are good and many advise to rate the dealer more than the mower itself. Lucky for me I have needed very little dealer support.

We run Ferris. The biggest difference between the My Ride System and the Ferris suspension is, My ride is a suspension system for the operator where the Ferris suspension is for the whole machine which aids when mowing grass fast, you get less deck chatter than with the Toro when the front tires are bouncing up off the ground while hitting bumps. If you incorporated Hustlers SmoothTrak steering into a Ferris, it would be the dream machine. The automatic parking brake on the ZTR's from Hustler is also awesome.

I just purchased a new Toro Z 2000 60" with MyRide. Best mower I've ever had, bar none, but two things I've noticed: 1. The foot lever for raising/lowering the deck is very awkward to use and I have turn myself into a pretzel to actuate it. I'm 6'0 and I cannot imagine taller guys having to do this. I will have to fabricate something to move the pedal further away so I can push on it more easily. 2. This mower is so fast, I am noticing bumps in the areas I mow that I never knew were there before (because my previous mowers were slower). Even with MyRide, it gets bumpy on the mower at times. Other than those two things, this thing is a beast. I was looking for a better mower that could lower my cut times and be more comfortable while doing it. The Z 2000 certainly fits that criteria, but I'm sure there must be better mowers out there.

A lot of talk about the suspension and called out the transmission model 3 or 4 times but not a word about the power plant. And that’s a big deal. One thing I did learn that gave me pause about buying a Ferris mower is that they are owned by Briggs & Stratton. I want a Kawasaki or Kohler or Kubota motor in my mower. Side comment, why is it that when you buy a mower that the manufacture's cheap out and do not put a sticker on the deck showing the layout for deck belt? There also should be a sticker telling the deck belt, hydro belt, oil, and air filter #'s, and the blade #. They give you a manual with three pages of useless safety warnings to cover there butts, but no useful info on the parts needed to maintain it!

I owned a Ferris ISX 800 for 4 years and it was the worst handing mower and cutting mower I’ve ever owned. It is unstable on hills and ditches and the cut is uneven if you have a yard that is slightly hilly going up because the back end will squat and give you a higher cut in the front because the front of the deck raises a little due to the back end squatting. You will have to double cut to even out the cut. If cutting down hill it will be much lower cut because the front end will squat. I was glad to trade my Ferris in for a toro z master 2000. The ride on the Ferris is not all that good. I adjusted the suspension in every position and you still have to spend money on a suspension seat for it to get a good ride. In order to get a good cut on the Ferris you have to adjust the suspension all the way up to prevent rear and front squat. Just my experience with Ferris and others might have better luck with Ferris.

I own a Ferris is700z 61’ with the 27 Briggs And a toro 4000 pro 52’ with the 25 kawaski. Non biased opinions, Ferris beautiful ride little outdated when it comes to tech like usb ports or massive storage compartments, and the zt-3300 or 3200 pumps can’t remember are a little underpowered for a 27hp semi commercial mower, has an AMAZING deck cut quality is 10/10 hands down on the Ferris lays stripes beautifully literally art. Toro 4000, cut quality is hideous, I think these decks don’t have baffles. My ride makes you feel like you’re swinging on a swing when open cutting and full cut speed when you hit a bump it is an ok system tho compared to the Ferris. Deck is non independent so you will still scalp on this machine if you go into a hole 😂 idk why he said that Ferris does it alone all mowers do… 😂 they have great sturdy chassis they look really beefy the zt-4400’s will literally go through 2ft of mud ! I will say this tho rear tires not the voodos aren’t as grippy as the CARSILE TURF 24’s I swapped both out and this thing WILL HOLD CRAZZZY SLOPES ! Pumps are amazing cup holders and ammentites I feel like the 4000’ was a rushed machine they could have taken more time to build this machine to be 10/10 like the handle bars will literally move 2-1/2 feet infront of you and they don’t auto retract more like a cruise control but not a good cruise control, motors never come aligned so one pump will always be faster then another causing you to turn to the right or left. it has all the high tech greatness just need more time and investment in the small things.

I think both are entirely over rated. As far as well built and easy maintenance the Dixie chopper is so much ahead of either of those mowers. The suspension BS they float just don’t compare to the simple and solid built facts of Dixie Chopper. They are absolutely more well built and so much easier access and need almost zero maintenance. I think a chopper will outlast any of those red machines simply because they are not using cookie cutter design and are built on a completely better platform. These red mowers are all flawed always have been in different areas and they just are not what some of the better built mowers are like dixie chopper.
