Wonderful! Finally a video provider that does not start his videos with a bunch of loud music/noise crap! Thank you! And great info in your video, too. Thanks!

Thank for this small info, I live in Canada and the voltage is the same as the USA. I've bought a transfomer that have the same comfig as yours. Now I know how to wire it. Thank you.

I had a guitar amp with a toroidal transformer in it. It was legit the best sounding amp I've ever had.

Really appreciated this. Explained these things at the level I need. I'm curious about the 500VA rating, you didn't talk a out that much.

ALWAYS use a nonconductive bolt to secure the toroid. Otherwise you can have a shorted turn and do great damage. Also, toroids saturate very easily if there is any DC offset on the line. This can and does occur for several reasons related to nonlinear and asymmetric loads. This can cause performance issues that cn be tough to track down.

Great to see you recommend the fuse on the primary. You can also tell everyone mounting the toroid transformer on a metal chassis NOT to earth the top mounting plate with any Earth wire . Assuming the bolt is already earthed to the metal chassis the Extra earth wire would become a shorted turn for the toroid and if lucky blow that primary fuse or else get the earth wire would get very very hot and burn.

Correct and very important. Bolts seemed like a good point to attach ground wires, so I did, actually causing a shorted loop. Ground cables caught fire in 30 seconds. The bolt must be electrically floating, no ground, nothing. Better yet use a nylon bolt or fix the thoroid with heavy duty zip cable ties. One lesson learnt the hard way for me.

Great information my friend. I did not think about that. I was thinking of mounting options while watching. Thank you for that great info, I plan to try one of these in a future project.

A question: I have a 3kw step down toroidal transformer (220 V to 110 V), but I have three outputs instead of four (one of the coils - I don't know which one has the ends connected, resulting in a single wire) How do I connect the terminals with the input as to obtain 110 V at the output? Normally I should have 4 wires: two from the first coil and then from a two coils and in this way, it was easy to connect

Thanks very much for your excellent video, i have a 12 inch subwoofer which has a large torodial transformer which hums, is there anything i could do to stop this, thanks.

Is here a need to put in a bridge rectifier and 1000uf capacitor in the output side ? I have a 24vDC submersible pump and a 240v/24v toroidal transformer .

hi you can drowing one core with 3 phase for 440 volt ?
@christopherleveck68358 жыл бұрын
okay so I have like 50 of these..... the question is what can I do with them? I'd like to use one for a hot wire foam cutter I'd like to use a couple more for small CNC projects. I believe they were original used in Creative Labs Sound woofer boxes. I think of primary and secondary are both 20 volts, which if im not mistaken would be perfect to run a small CNC machine?

How does configuring the primary winding in series and parallel effect the voltage and current of the secondary windings?
@covertoperator29573 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure in this, but I think that you only wire the primary side in series if you want to input 230V instead of 115V. If you want 70V output instead of 35V, then you wire the secondary side in series. But if you want to provide 115V and get 70V, then you need to wire the primary side in parallel and the secondary side in series.

Are you suppose to get continuity between each primary? I try to hook my 2 reds up and it pops my breaker, I was told both red 220 input both yellow 60v output

Remember he said there was no standard between colors.

Drew Kerlee I’ve learned a lot about these and ac motors in general lately. You will get basically a dead short if you hook up a continuity tester between inputs! I had to use a D curve breaker for my toroidal transformer so it won’t trip the breaker because there is such a in rush of current! Thanks for your reply!

Hello. Can a neutral be used in a standard Step Down Transformer converted to a Step Up Transformer? We connected 120VAC (Hot & Neutral) to the Input Side (reversed) and wired the Output Side to the 220 Taps (2 legs) to equal 220 Volts at the Panel connections. The problem that we have is Unbalanced when you measure voltages to ground. We have 148VAC to one leg and 69VAC to the other leg measured to ground with the meter. We don't think this is correct. It seems the current would shift to the lower voltage leg if the panel is loaded. I appreciate your opinion with this connection.
@WorldOfEngineering9 жыл бұрын
Could you send me the schematic for this transformer? Also make sure you ground is clean and there is no leakage from other devices
@klassicjam9 жыл бұрын
***** The Transformer is acceptable. All components in the panel are the same voltage rating. The incoming voltage is 120 Volts from a UPS Power Panel (no choice in the application). The Panel and all devices are working properly. It's a high priority to keep this transformer connected (reversed) in order to keep in service. Our future plans are to purchase a "Step Up or Step Down" Schneider Transformer with 240 X 120 (Primary) and 240/120 (Secondary) - Voltages will be correct. The question is with the correct transformer connected, will the voltages be balanced at the device in the panel?

Good evening,I am Eliezer Rodriguez, Biologist and also musician. I want to build a power supply for my acoustic guitar pedal board because the commercial types available have multiple features that will never get used and they are expensive. There is nothing on the market for my particular needs; therefore, the reason for building one. I found a diy layout from a guy in Australia that looks like something that I need. According to the source the ac input is 240v and, being from USA, I need that input to be 120v with a DC outputs of 9v with no less than 300 mA. Would you help me modify the circuit it and how to wire the transformer?The source is in the link that follows. Any help will be greatly appreciated. www.guitars-of-love.com/9V_regulated_PS_V6.htmlRegards,Eliezer
@WorldOfEngineering9 жыл бұрын
+Eliezer Rodriguez The link doesnt work. But if your output requirement is 9V with 300mA, no need for transformers and rectifiers. It is alot easier to buy a good power supply from ebay. Search for 110V 9V power supply
@renzr559 жыл бұрын
I think did not make myself clear enough. I'm not looking for a single power supply for one pedal. What I need is an isolated multi output (at least 6 outputs). In that way the noise due to all the individual transformer gets eliminated. As said before, I decided to build one because is cheaper, I can customize it to meet my particular needs and is fun. Already traced the PCB using software. Just waiting for some guidance before getting started with etching, tinning, masking, etc. I understand it may not be easy, but I'm determined. Sorry for the bother.
