It's my first time shore fishing in the winter. I usually only take out my fishing gear in May post spawn.
It still amazes me the size, quality, and health of fish you can get in downtown Toronto directly from shore. My friends and family are always shocked when I show them pictures. They assume I had to go up north to catch fish like this.
Lure: Rapala Scatter Rap
Reel: Shimano Stradic CI4+
Rod: ? I don't know, some back up rod while my St. Croix Premier is getting fixed. I think it says Matrix on it by Quantum. Surprisingly really good :)

9 times out of 10 I'm usually the only one. But I might go during times when other people don't go (weekdays). I've been on a Saturday once and there were other anglers there. I've also seen other people post pics from there so not a secret spot :)

if you go there 10 times, how many times would you get a fish? i find there are very few fish this year.
@caughtbyconsul96
@caughtbyconsul96 7 жыл бұрын
Mike Essner That's a good question. Depends what you're targeting. Catch 50% of the time maybe. See fish 80% of the time. See carp 90% of the time.
@mikeessner3112
@mikeessner3112 7 жыл бұрын
i meant pike. I fish up north and can get pike any day. I've been to your exact spot several times sometimes 3 of us and nobody even gets a bite or see's a fish. we don't count carp.

Mike Essner Up north (Muskoka, Kawartha) I always catch fish too but I'm usually out for much longer stints and on a boat. Shore fishing in Toronto much different. If you check out the other videos on my channel you'll see the type and size of fish you can catch on TO shores. If I catch one picture worthy fish that's a good day. 2 or 3 fish is an awesome day. This year is a little different due to super high water levels but I've only been out 3 times total and less than 2 hrs each time and haven't caught anything. But like I said, normally catch 50% of the time and see fish (pike, bass, sheephead, trout, bowfin) 80% of the time but can't always get them to bite or even get a bait in front of them depending how far out they are or how fast they are swimming. Keep trying. Try different spots. Just a matter of time.

Don't you take the fish away? You can take it? What was that fish? I'm new here in Toronto and I'm from Brazil, the fish are different.
@caughtbyconsul96
@caughtbyconsul96 4 жыл бұрын
This is a northern pike. 90% of the time I return the fish back in the water. The big ones you want to put back so they can spawn. But now and then I keep some smaller fish to have for dinner.

Light games Sometimes P-line 12lbs. I find that it has too much stretch. I also use 20lbs Trilene but I find it's hard to tie knots but ver strong against sharp teeth. I want to use both up before I try something else. What do you like?

hey what do you recommend live bait or lures and which ones should I use
@caughtbyconsul96
@caughtbyconsul96 7 жыл бұрын
Hard to beat live bait but also not very convenient and can get expensive. If you have the funds and access to live bait then give it a shot. I've never used it shore fishing. The fish are not always there so you can buy a dozen minnows and only use one since there's no fish around. Also harder to cover water when you use live bait vs. lures. I've only used live bait on a boat or when ice fishing. My confidence lures are: Rapala Shadow Rap Heddon Spook Rapala Scatter Rap Blue fox inline spinner #3 or #4 (all sliver)
