Ha, great little video. I’m just searching through KZbin and came across this. I mean, how many of us have not wondered what life on an 18 wheeler would be like? Very informative, very personable, well written and great video skills. PS. I use the 115 weekly and agree. That can be so pain/stressful.

Made me chuckle when you were talking about being overcautious driving, agree people can be. But then cut to tying down the truck with extra chains just to be overly cautious. Lol.

Welcome to driving in a Toronto winter - I know you were still a distance out of TO but the go too slow / scared is quite common. Let me guess one of the cars was a Toyota Camry - they seem to be the car of choice for drivers that are new to Canadian roads and winter conditions. Sounds like you did a good job of avoiding a mess. Alas, they tend to avoid the major 400 series around Toronto and stick to the big roads so they can crawl along and block traffic. It may be time to cut back on the heavy handed speed enforcement and put more of a focus on driving skills & road safety.

Hey Josh long time subscriber here and I just wanted to say thanks. Thanks for making me think about people doing 10-20 mph on the highway as a result of that I kept having nightmares last night about me going down the road and coming up on people damn near stopped in the highway. I can’t count how many times I jumped up out of a dead sleep thinking I was about to end up rear ending someone pushing all kinds of buttons in my sleeper tryna turn my 4 ways on. So again thanks for that 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I also live in a Northern Climate, I got behind some traffic last week that was doing less than half the posted speed limit. The roads were wet , but no ice at all. I was very aggravated at them , but I kept the proper distance and followed because I knew that 7 miles further and I would be able to get around them. My opinion is YES people can go too slow and they can be a danger to others because people behind them can sometimes try to pass and get by the slow pokes. In some cases that can be a bad idea.

6:11 I agree with you 100% sometimes people go at 70, (where the speed limit is 100)on highways especially in Quebec when there is really no need to drive that slow. No wonder why they post minimum speed limit on highways out there.

As a truck driver I always found it's safer to back out of it(except pulling a hill) than push a bad scenario even further. It's good to get on down the road safely as well as knowing others are as well. Dispite the situation... always think of the other person. God bless you and yours and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year😊.

The problem with the two slow pokes wasn't the fact they were doing 10 or 20 mph. It's the fact they were side by side for 10 miles. Which held everyone back and created a traffic jam. Does it make the drive safer? No, all it does is ratchet up the stress level for the 30 or 40 drivers stuck behind them and in frustration, someone makes a move and usually an innocent driver or two somewhere in the pack pays the price.

I think many people(in the US at least) who drive "overly cautious" in bad weather may either not have tires for it(ie summer tires in winter), or even bald tires and RWD. The laws vary from state to state and for some people, unless the law says they have to, they just keep their all seasons or summer tires on or keep bald tires until they blow and they know their vehicle is dangerous in the present conditions and drive as such. It is their freedom to do so. For everyone else on the road, it's a "it is what it is" situation.

Funny you mention overly cautious, I got caught in a small snow storm going through northern Idaho this afternoon all while a few people where doing the very same thing 10-20 mph. At least they had four ways on but I think at that point its safer to just pull off the road and wait out the storm a bit. I started flatbedding this year and the short 4 years I've been driving I always subscribed to the saying "Nobody ever got hurt being cautious" But there is definitely to much caution.

The posted speed limit is the maximum speed to travel in good driving conditions . When conditions are poor you have the right and responsibility to slow down . When people do not , then that is when you get the 140 vehicle pile ups .

I agree too slow on a highway is really dangerous. I followed my wife on Highway 40 towards Quebec City and she in her mind was driving super safe at less than 70 k/hr, Traffic on this highway runs around 115 k/hr. Following her required me to spend a lot of time watching my rearview mirror. I really should have put my 4 way flashers on. When we recached our destination and I commented on the danger of her slow driving she didn't understand!!

I have more problems with people that are overly confident. If YOU are driving to conditions, a slowpoke would not be a real danger. The only way the nervous drivers are a real 'danger' is if they willy nilly jump on the brakes ! (In Europe there is going to be a find if somebody is driving with his 4-ways on unless they are having a permit for that because drivers approaching are supposed to see and adjust to the speeds ahead.)

Time 14:00 I seem to be loosing my patience with people like this guy blocking the isle as I get older. One of the things that really fires me up in a second is the guys at the fuel isle that go in to pay for the fuel and stand around drinking coffee or going to the rest room or what ever they do, leaving their truck where no one can fuel. How long does it take to move their truck forward then go inside. Or the guy that blocks you in at a truck stop and goes to sleep. I have no trouble having him or her towed. Some people just can’t be awakened from a deep tired sleep. Before you know it I’ve lost an hour or more just getting them to move. If I don’t have a place to park I move on. It’s the responsible thing to do and I have no patience with those who don’t consider others. Must be getting old.

It's not weird in my opinion, those people were creating an even more dangerous situation than what already existed. It is possible to be too cautious to the point it adds another element of danger that is not necessary. Yes, be careful, but if you are that unsure of your driving abilities, get off of the road. As a professional driver that is how I gauge myself because even professional drivers can be presented with weather and situations that just scream, get off of the road.

In my opinion, the problem with drivers who drive excessively slow is that they don't know how to drive, they haven't learned, they drive out of fear, and that's not being prudent, it's simply not knowing how to drive, not knowing how to "read" the road, knowing the limitations of the car they drive... etc. In short, I think the problem is that they get a driver's license without really knowing how to drive.

Where were the cops to pull over the one blocking the passing lane? It’s illegal in the states to camp in the left lane. My guess is they were traveling together and holding up traffic so they didn’t get the salted water spray from every passing vehicle.
