This was impressive draft management. The Leafs walked away with a promising mobile right shooting defender then set about maximizing their draft capital. They even kicked a 2nd round pick to the barren early rounds of the next draft. They picked some interesting players at all positions in the later rounds. Then if that was not enough, they used a 7th round pick for permission to speak with Tanev. Just fine "GMing" all around.

Ben Danford. There is a reason why they gave him a letter in his draft year. W heard nothing but positives. But what I’ve been reading between the lines. Danford’s blood sweat. Tears and Heart are on each of his jerseys. That is exactly what Leafs need for the future. And I’ve heard the young man is very well respected by the players. And he’s only 17. That speaks volumes about his game. He needs to build on that as well. I think he will dandy a few years down the road.

Tanev is a fantastic add despite his age. We just have to be ultra careful on the term. He’s gonna be 35 before years end. 2 years would be be ideal but I get if they need to add a 3rd to get it done. Anything more would be irresponsible.

I can't see Tavares staying for less then half of what he's currently making. As for "what Marner wants", no actual numbers have been put out yet. Any numbers heard are from "fans" or haters. If Marner were to leave, it would be for nothing. He's made it clear that he won't take back his NTC, and I can't blame him. Unfortunately, without Marner, this team doesn't make the playoffs nor dies Matthews get anywhere near 70 goals.

Projecting out guys who are 18 & sometimes still 17 at draft time is a crap shoot. Some seem to do a better job than others. Clark appears to be one of those guys. Most of the players who succeed in the NHL are able to think the game at a high level. That, along with skating, skill, high compete & character seems to be what Clark values most. Danford is all that. Good pick & we'll see how the 4th's, 5th's & 7th's shake out. FYI, Matt Roy a pending UFA & a rock solid RD, with offence was selected in the 7th round, so you never know how things will work out.

Dubas absolutely screwed this team. What can you expect to build with nothing left in the cupboard with stupid moves to reinvent hockey into basketball, forgetting it’s also the lacrosse, football elements which are critical in building a champion. Dubas blew a Matthews Marner Hyman Brown Brazeau Ceci Tavares and KADRI Toronto maple leafs’ History making offensive juggernaut, all you needed to build on the farm was defense. And to stop leaving your goalie hanging out to dry! Hunter picked Matthews over Laine and look how a brilliant hockey mind impacts every decision. But no, you went with dubas. Good to see Berube. Too bad he and treliving are taking over a mess from the previous guy. When are Canadian teams going to stop spoon feeding the nhl with talent on the cheap?

I have been thinking of another idea. Domi and Bertuzzi want to be Leafs? They both sign a 1 year deal this weekend for $2 Million each with a $1 Million performance bonus that is easy to obtain that kicks that $2 Million (1 each) into 2025-26 season against the cap. Tavares on July 1st later in the day signs for $4 Million per year that can help pay these guys and another defensman or forward for the 2025 July 1st Free Agency Day. So with Domi and Bertuzzi doing that, right after Tavares doing that $4 Million deal, sign both players for 2025-26 seasons for 4 year deals with a $500K to $750K more to recoup the losses of this coming year on their 1 year deals. So basically they have 1 year deals for this coming season but you can actually extend them on a new deal like the next couple of days to give them security before they even play this coming season. Let's get creative here!

Those numbers sounds dreamy from the Leafs perspective but I think it will not make any of the players’ agents even cast an eye at that proposal. Numbers are too low and extensions after a year cannot be guaranteed (if a GM and or a CEO moves out, the new contracts / promises of extensions become legally worthless).
