The Anaheim ducks won't be able to protect more defenseman an upcoming expansion drafts that are projected in the next 3 to 5 years. The ducks really needed help on the right wing. They should have traded down, and I'm curious why they didn't go after demidov but beyond that, this player makes sense.

Other teams were reported more interested than the mock drafts projected he'd go. Anaheim had their eyes set on him and decided to play it safe by pulling the trigger rather than take a chance with a trade down. The asking price from Anaheim could've also been too high, so you never truly know. Off the wall picks like this tend to go big or bust, so we'll see how it goes 5 years from now.
