Torquay is a beautiful seaside holiday town located in the English Riviera, on the south coast of Devon and close to Brixham and Paignton. It is a popular holiday destination for both UK and international tourists, and there are many reasons why people should consider holidaying in Torquay.
One of the main reasons to visit Torquay is its stunning natural beauty. The town is nestled between the sea and the stunning Devonshire countryside, and there are many beautiful beaches and coastal walks to enjoy. The town is also home to a number of beautiful parks and gardens, including the award-winning Babbacombe Downs and the beautiful Torre Abbey Gardens.
Torquay is also home to a range of cultural attractions, including the Torre Abbey Museum, which houses a collection of art, artefacts and manuscripts, and the Torquay Museum, which tells the story of the town and its rich history. There are also a number of galleries and studios in the town, showcasing the work of local artists and craftsmen.
Torquay is also a great place for foodies, with a range of excellent restaurants, cafes and pubs serving a variety of local and international cuisine, especially around the harbour and marina area.
Finally, Torquay is well-connected to the rest of the country, with good transport links by road, rail and air. It is just a short drive from the M5 motorway and there are regular train services to and from major cities such as London and Bristol. The town is also served by Exeter International Airport, with regular flights to a range of domestic and international destinations.
Overall, Torquay is a fantastic holiday destination, offering something for everyone. Its stunning natural beauty, cultural attractions, sporting facilities and excellent food and drink make it the perfect place to relax and unwind.
Things to do in Torquay Devon
Visit Torquay's award-winning beaches and take a swim in the sea.
Take a stroll along the beautiful harbor and watch the boats come in and out.
Visit Kents Cavern, a series of underground caves that have been inhabited by humans for over 400,000 years.
Head to the Torre Abbey Museum to learn about the town's history and see the beautiful gardens.
Play a round of golf at one of the town's many golf courses.
Take a boat tour to see the stunning coastline and wildlife. There is also a ferry across to Brixham and Paignton on the English Riviera, two more holiday towns here.
Visit the Torquay Museum to learn about the local area and its history.
Go on a walk or hike along the beach or the South West Coast Path, which offers stunning views of the surrounding coastline.
Relax in one of the town's many parks and gardens, such as Victoria Park or the Living Coasts coastal zoo.

I live around here, and the seafront area is lovely, no complaints, it's the town that shabby and run down, that's the problem, like most big seaside towns in England. They are starting to make it better, by making it more residential. It's happening slowly, but they could do speeding it up more, and not let it take years. When that's done, Torquay will be great again, I'm sure of it 😀❤👍

Thank you for another wonderful walk around my favourite town. Seeing your seaside walks is a great way to forget I’m living in grotty, grey London. You started the video in our favourite bit - Beacon Quay. Next time, head left away from the town centre for a change. Start off by the derelict Living Coasts structure and have a peek over the sea wall and see the two large rocks that are always swarming with cormorants. Next, head up the stairs by Living Coasts and turn right onto Parkhill Road. Go into the grounds of the marvellous Imperial Hotel and follow the signs to the South West Coast path which goes behind the hotel. This leads to a long walk along the cliff tops, taking in London Bridge (a natural stone arch, like a mini Durdle Door), and absolutely stunning views across the bay towards Brixham. You’ll end up on Daddyhole Plain, and boy, is it ever worth the walk! Go on a nice, sunny day.

Many thanks for taking the time to do what you do, it means a lot to so many people that may potentially be stuck at home, for whatever reason 💙👍

After visiting Torquay and the surrounding areas in 1975, I never returned until this last summer of 2022 and made two visits!!! Parts were as I remembered but lots were not. However, it was still as nice as I rememberd from my previous visit 47 years previously! Same for Paignton and Brixham.

Torquay, Paignton and Brixham have some of the most beautiful pieces of seafront in the entire country in my opinion. Its my favourite place in the whole UK. For the people slagging it off you obviously haven’t been to London, Birmingham, Manchester or the UK’s most famous seaside town Blackpool. None of these places come close to the English Riviera

Ive been to so many of uk big seaside resorts...i must say torquay imo is definitely one of the better ones !! Ive also been to the BIG three B's as they call it..Blackpool, Brighton and Bournemouth!! Msy surprise folk to know whilst all 3 were great , the resort i found the most threatening and unfortable at night ( and sometimes during the day) was BOURNEMOUTH!!! Yes Bournemouth. Whilst Blackpool and brighton was extremely lively and busy , was never felt threatened or on edge the way i felt in Bournemouth.. Ps..btw torquay imo is one of my top 3 resorts. Its superb.

What a lovely video showcasing this town. We love living here and yes, it does have a few problems but so does everywhere else we have lived. Maybe we have been lucky but there again we dont go looking for trouble or negatives either. The walk of lights was a great addition for this Christmas and the christmas street lighting seemed to have improved also. Thanks for portraying the town in such a positive fashion😄

I went to Torquay in 2017 when I visited my friends, the one & only time I'd been to South Devon & Cornwall & we did the Round Robin Trip. I remember the multi colored Properties & I remember the Harbour & those Benches overlooking the Boats near the Harbour. I sat on one of those Benches! And we also sat outside a cafe going around that corner leading to the park with all the Palm Trees. But we didn't go any further that way, we didn't go as far as the Beach walk. We walked towards the Shops & the Shopping Centres. There some absolutely lovely shops in Torquay & lots of them! Thanks for that lovely walk Neil, the winter sun on the sea looks amazing.

Hiya mate, I know it's an oldish video you've recently done, but I've only just come across it and want to thank you for visiting my old place of birth. It's nice to see what has changed since I lived there and also nice to see what it's like now a days as sadly I don't have much time to visit the place often. So thanks again for putting up this video on your channel. I really enjoy watching your videos and find them really interesting the places you go too. Now I live in Matlock and I was wondering sometime if by any chance you could do a walk around Matlock town and our beautiful part of Matlock. Back in the 1960s, there was a shop window that had two fully stockinged and shoed ladies legs from a shop dummy dangling behind it. They were suspended in the ceiling just behind the window and swung backwards and forwards. This gave the impression that a lady had fallen though the floor from the room above and had got stuck! They were on Vaughan Terrace and I think it was the window of Roly's Fudge & Ice Cream next to the Its Showtime Joke Shop or thereabouts. Anyone else remember these?

It is definitely nothing like the French Riviera and avoid the town center. Back in the 70's and 80's it was good but now it is so run down and about 70% of hotels and guest houses have closed down and turned into social housing (HMO's) or private apartments. I had a property overlooking the harbour for 8 years and I am so happy to of sold the property and left Torquay well behind.

Amenities. Public transport. There are a loads of stunning villages i could go to but I fear I would struggle with my personal restrictions. ( figure I can do day trips to other prettier places). I was there a few weeks ago. I’m going next week yo have a really proper look around. See if I could picture myself living here. Or Babbacombe. Wanting to relocate after Christmas. I lived and worked in Torquay for many years and I know that visitors don't see the reality until it hits them. One of my jobs was looking after all the vehicles at the police station and I'm aware that the greater number of townsfolk are unemployed, drugged to the gills or drunk. For my first two summers I drove an ice cream van and I was attacked every single day, fortunately my days as a Guard on the Railway taught me how to deal with savages.

Lovely boats and water , but WAY too many people. Way too many. I love the quiet, quaint places better. Never had seen Torquay so it was nice to see what it was like.

Speaking as someone born in Torquay, the scenery's pretty and the food's excellent, but Torbay isn't what it used to be. Crime has been rising steadily in the borough over the last few years, Torbay needs more police, and to deal with all the drunks and drug addicts, they really should adopt the American idea of "drunk tanks" so the poor beleagured Torbay General Hospital A&E isn't flooded with aggressive, intoxicated people who need police guards on them.

One of the worst seaside towns I have visited, the only saving grace was a quant little village nearby, with old cottages.

Are you mad bro? Torquay it's literally the best place to avoid! My partner go attacked there just by minding his business walking down the road by some two wannabe gangsters. As someone who lived in Devon all my life let me tell you even the crappy Paignton is better place to go!
