Amazingly explained. Well another way to define lever arm is...it's the common perpendicular to force and line of axis. By the way GREAT video👍

my final exam in 11 hrs and 35 min! and I was killed by thinking Torque was equal to Force * lever arm * cos/sin of Force, awesome and great explanation for simple torque.

so this definition is the same as the cross product of the position vector and the force vector (where the position vector originates at the axis of rotation)?

Matt Anderson okay, so say the rod was hinged in the middle and 2 equal and opposite forces acting as a couple are acting on its end (no translation only rotational). Like on a magnet in a magnetic field. So do we calculate the arm length sine component from any one force to the hinging point or to the other end where the other force is acting? I realize this is a little late but then physics hasn't changed in 2 years I hope

Contrats. How can I calculate the angle of a seesaw when two masses are different? Let's say 10 kg one side and 15 kg the other? What is the resulting angle? If distances are the same.

can the lever arm not be perpendicular to the force?
@yoprofmatt
@yoprofmatt 7 жыл бұрын
Eazyy e (that was a great song from the 90's), Yes, of course the lever arm can be perpendicular to the force. Then Φ = 90˚ and sin Φ = 1. Cheers, Dr. A
