Part one of the video series looking at the TorqueSim SR22 in X-Plane 11. We look at starting up the Naturally Aspirated SR22 and takeoff from Orange County KSNA and depart to Grand Canyon KGCN.
Route: KSNA 20R - ANAHEIM1.HEC V210 AMERE - KGCN ILS 03
Errors, Omissions, Clarifications:-
Clarification - Fuel system. The electric fuel pump functions as both prime and boost pump. With either setting it is capable of delivering fuel to the engine as long as the mixture is not in the cut off position. It is easy to flood the engine by running for too long on the boost setting prior to starting. Aviation fuel injectors are purely mechanical constant flow devices with no electronic fuel pulse timing as per automotive systems. With pressure on the fuel system fuel will be pumped into the engine, running or not.
Video 1 -
- Cockpit setup
- Engine Starting
- Loading a flightplan
- Taxi Out
- Power and pre-takeoff checks
- Takeoff and climb speeds
- Engine cooling and leaning
The fine print:
It shouldn't need to be said, but please remember these videos are for recreational simulation and entertainment purposes, not real world flight instruction.
Unlike most videos on the channel, I have been given free access to the SR22 by TorqueSim. My videos are not intended to be an outright promotion of the product, but rather as informative tutorials with the model.

Great video, thanks 👍😃 Some comments if I may: On the cabin checklist you should first switch on BAT2 only to verify voltage and flaps light off to ensure functionality of the electric separation of the essential systems. As you were running through the before take off checklist you wondered about why the "air conditioning" is on the list. While it may not be an issue for the SR22 it certain is for the SR20 as you have to ensure that a/c is switched off for take off and landing (snow flake button). The reason is that it eats some power off your system which you want to have available for t/o or go around, especially on the weaker SR20 engine where it is indeed a safety item. So having it on the checklist should be a reminder that you are aware of its state as you may want to switch it off when starting at high altitude for example even in a SR22. Also, the circulating mode must not be operated in flight. Finally, the alternator check. You should activate the switches for pitot heat and lights separately and monitor if each leads to addition power consumption. That might be a bit redundant as you have checked these functionslities during the outside / cabin check already. But here you can see which alternator provides the energy to which system. As far as I remember landing lights should increase current on ALT1 and pitot heat and nav lights should increase current on ALT2. But again, pretty great video on how to crank up a Cirrus according to the book 😃

I’m a “day late and a dollar short” in watching this video. I just bought the SR-22 and have been reading the “Normal procedures” section of the “POH”. Like others that have commented here, I agree that Graham really does an amazing job with these videos. I like the focus on flying the plane, and enjoy taking tips from someone who is close to the pinnacle of a flying career. I got my PPL and instrument rating in Colorado, but first soloed at KSQL in the SFO Bay Area. I never flew into KSNA as PIC, but can recall reading from other GA pilots about the “killer bees” that used the airport- the B757’s!

Thanks for the very nice feedback Bruce. The TorqueSim SR22 is a great general aviation aircraft and it was a pleasure to be able to make some content for it. I'm really glad you've picked up on one of the key messages in all my videos - focus on flying the aircraft first, and deal with the systems later. I've visited that part of SoCal on vacation, and KSNA did seem like a very busy airport - I did a bit of my training out in Phoenix and have great memories of flying in the western US. Fantastic scenery and mostly great weather.

Love your work!! Bought the plane and was looking for some pointers on smooth taxiing when I can across my favorite Instructor's (you!) series. Learning SO much more about the plane due to your thoroughness and excellent presentation skills. Looking forward to viewing the rest of the series. Thank you for your effort Graham.

Good afternoon. I had a really nice surprise when I noticed you uploaded another video. As always, great content, very well explained, very much professional and indeed something new to learn with each of your videos. Can't wait to watch the hopefully soon coming series. Thank you for your effort, your time and sharing very valuable knowledge with us. And I really you and your family are doing well.

Great tutorial for my favorite arcraft in XP11 since it came out. Although I like the SR22T version a bit more, so can't wait until you handle that. But these videos are very informative and clearly presented. Thanks so much!

Yes the turbo is nice - I think starting off with the NA makes the benefits and differences with the TN more obvious - for example explaining mixture and leaning with the TN is much easier if you know how to handle the NA.

Thanks, for another highly informative video. I’ve been flying this plane non-stop on the simulator, since I’m getting the G6 model sometime next year, hopefully when the world resets to “normal.” TorqueSim has done an amazing job, especially with the textures and systems modeling. However, I hope they iron out some existing bugs and continue to improve this bird. It would be nice to see the TKS system in action, be able to put on the oxygen mask (similar to the TBM9), and some windshield rain effects.

I’m sure the model will get better and better. Hope you enjoy the G6 - before flying the sim model I was firmly of the opinion the A36 Bonanza was a better machine, but I’m not so sure now - I can really see the SR22 appeal.

I’ll probably have a look at FS2020, but I’ve got enough in the X-Plane pipeline for now. If I were to do some FS2020 videos I’d like to do the default A320 and DR400.

@@ReflectedRealitySimulations Yeah, I'm WAY (over?)invested in XP now so it will never leave my computer, but I am certainly interested in getting my hands on MSFS again, as it looks like they've FINALLY done it justice.

Graham I just came across your channel and my sentiment is much the same as other listeners. Your content and explaining method is superb. I just purchased an SR 20 with the Lycoming IO 390, 215 HP engine. I have gotten different recommendations regarding the leaning process, from instructors and the POH is not as detailed as your videos. I’m wondering if I could use your leaning recommendations. I usually fly out form sea level Thank you so much, Jose
@ReflectedRealitySimulations
@ReflectedRealitySimulations 3 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the delay replying Jose. I hope you're enjoying your new airplane. I'm not a flight instructor, and the videos are really for recreational entertainment purposes - however the general theory is all as per the real thing so should be of some use for providing background knowledge. I believe the SR20 may have an altitude compensating fuel pump, in which case the leaning process would be quite different, so best to refer to instructors and trainers familiar with the aircraft.

I would like to see you fly the Dreamfoil EMB110 v3, which has, I think, a real good engine simulation and is a rather underpowered AC and therefore awkward to fly correctly. Good video as usual 👌

Thanks, glad you like the videos. I don’t have the Aerobask DA-62 but hopefully lots of the SR22 and TBM content can also help with the Diamond aircraft as there is a lot of commonality with the G1000. I don’t think the FFA320 has been updated in some time. Hopefully they’ll get it working properly in Vulkan.

Thanks Gary, I’ve only seen the FS2020 videos so far, I don’t have it myself. I think the visuals look really good, I have my reservations about the physics models and some of the design choices on the default aircraft seem a bit odd, but very early days for the sim. I think it has potential though.

Great video. I just bought this sim plane and fly a real G2 SR22. My biggest question is how do you get the virtual cow and the virtual tablet?
@ReflectedRealitySimulations
@ReflectedRealitySimulations 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Chris. I hope I captured the feel of flying a SR22. I do use the automation more in the sim than I would with a real aircraft simply because it helps with workload for narration and keyboard/mouse interaction. The cow "MilkShake" has a clickspot on the glareshield on the right side, and the tablet is an addon called "Avitab".
