Torrey Pines gliderport in San Diego CA

I took the wife and we went to Torrey Pines for some afternoon flying. We got to meet some interesting people. It was a really fun to boat around in such wonderful weather. I also got to see some dolphins out in the wild. Its hard to see in the GoPro, but if you look close you can see them.

I did that there at that place.its one of my favorite days.other than jumping out of a plane,that was a close 2nd!!!! They were so professional and made it seem do easy.

Legend has it, there was a pilot who landed in the ocean once, he hooked 3 dolphins together and they towed him back up. He flew back to land vowing to return the favor. He now has a roommate named “Sunkist” 😂. Killer flight!!

I would come here often to have lunch and watch the gliders. I found out about it when I was prepping for surgery at nearby Scripps hospital. One year while my husband went to NYC to hang w/ our college daughter for her birthday, I thought I’d take have some mother-son time & took my 16 yr old to go watch the gliders. The wind was down so they were all grounded. We decided to walk down to the beach instead. It was a loooong way down… only when we got down did we realize it was a NUDE BEACH!! Big time mother fail.😂😅😂😅BLACK’s BEACH (I’d heard there was a nude beach around but always thought it was north of the gliderport). It was mostly older men. But, still; 🤦🏻‍♀️.

How far can you fly? I’m guessing it’s more of a zoning thing than being able to stay up? Like could you fly up and down the whole cost or is it just because the wind blows up the cliffs at Torrey? How far out in the ocean could you fly?

The record is 500 miles right now if I remember correctly. It’s all about weather.

Yes. Each wing has a weight range. The largest wings can carry 500lbs and more
