Torrey's Peak - East Face Direct to Dead Dog Couloir & Tuning Fork

Attempted the Triple Crown on Torreys Peak this past weekend (6/15/24). Due to several factors, we decided to skip Emperor Couloir and skied Tuning Fork down and out.
Since we were relying on radiative cooling due to the unseasonably warm temperaturesstarted, we wanted to make sure we left ourselves plenty of time to summit before things got too hot. We left from the lot at 2:45 AM. Dead Dog conditions were about how you'd expect for this time of the year (rocks peppered the snow, sun cups, and runnels), but skiing the East Face Direct into the line was a real treat! The East Face is by far the steepest and most exposed line on Torreys. Sitting at an angle right around 50° with cliffs looming below, it's a committing adventure, but also a ton of fun!
At the bottom, we transitioned and skinned back up to the main trail, joining the 50-100 other people who were out enjoying the trail. We hiked to the summit and took a look at our options. Emperor Couloir would have been a bit of a pain. The line was melted out in several places that would have required some rock sidestepping or removing the skis. Additionally, my partner was suffering with low energy and nausea, which resulted in a very slow pace. With storms predicted for later that afternoon, it wasn't worth skiing Emperor Couloir and then trying to boot up Tuning Fork. We chose the line with the best snow and had a great time! Tuning Fork may not be the hardest line on the mountain, but a sustained, 3000' fall-line between 35-40° makes for some excellent hero turns!

Cool vid. What time did you drop tuning forks? Might head there weds , trying to figure out how early to start.
