Glad you got it done Ozzstar....I would've replaced both with heavier duty Sway-Away Torsion Bars since it failed the way it did! You must have been airborne doing some offroading! I'm currently installing some Sway-Away Torsion Bars on a 93 Hardbody Extended Cab that I'm lowering as well with BellTech spindles....Glad you referenced all your work back to the service manual, you're one of the few....I didn't see you remove nor install the snaprings so I hope you didn't forget it, If the Exterra has them....Good to see you being safety conscious, most peole didn't utilize PPE on their KZbin Vid's I appreciate you setting an example and giving people the motivation to never give up....You're a Technician not a mechanic! I know one when I see one! I'll view your Maxima Vid as well! Ihave 3 Maximas and 1 Hardbody myself....I love Nissans!

Thanks for the comments Dan, I appreciate the kind words!! Take it easy and happy Nissaning -Ozz P.S. No snap rings on the 2000-2004 Xterra :-) and my buddy went over a speed bump in a parking lot when the bar snapped.....corrosion at the adjuster arm.......and then it became my headache to fix....go figure

Two weeks ago I had almost the same problem. I have a 2WD 2001 Xterra and also the front passenger side was a little lower. The problem is that I didn't know anything about tortion bars and my usual mechanic said that my tortion bar was broken. I actually didn't buy that but still I went to many stores looking for that bar. Even when that bar was also used for the Frontier and many of those trucks were sold here, nobody had it and it wasn't even shown on the catalogues. Not even the dealership had it and they told me that, if they ever find it, it would cost a big deal of money. So I decided to get a second opinion and I found an honest expert on suspensions. It only needed a little adjustment and that's it. Thank you for this video because I still have a lot to learn about this truck.

You are welcome Fernando, thanks for watching and keep on learning! Glad you got your truck fixed by someone who is honest and not a crook! Take it easy - Glen

One junk yard and two hours later, torsion bar replaced. Because this video, I decided not to wait for my local mechanic to have an opening and do the job myself. 3/4" socket worked for me, along with C-wrench for the lock nut. I also had to cut the broken bits to get the arm out. Thanks Ozzstar. 2001 4wd.

bikenraider99 your welcome, appreciate the support. I will never forget making this video because I did this repair and filmed it not knowing I had acute bronchitis and about a day away from being hospitalized with pneumonia. I was very sick. It is ironic at 19:33 when I say 'this cold is killing me" it literally was and I was being ignorant. I never felt so weak and tired in my 44 years on earth. Good news is i recovered after finally going to the emergency room and getting medicine. The moral of the story- STAY HEALTHY and take care of yourself! Take it easy- Ozz

Will the torsion bar come out without taking those three bolts out by the front wheel I've got two of those bolts that are stripped or do I need to cut them off this is a broke torsion bar it wasn't for replacement bars broke into if anyone knows has any suggestions

I believe that bracket has to be removed in order to get the torsion bar out.

If you take the washer off the adjuster first (slide it back,there’s just enough room) the adjuster will come out of the crossmember without the hammer.

hello, great video but i do have a question. my t-bar snapped but not clean off so there i believe there is still tension9could be very little), although the anchor arm is stuck in place there in no load on the anchor bolt i actually almost have it off. my question is for saftey reason do you take off the t bar in the same position as you assemble it(with the control arm jacked up). and also do you believe your old anchor could have been salvaged, i really do not want to pay 70$ for a new one but the old may be rusted on.
@ozzstars_cars7 жыл бұрын
I couldn't reuse the anchor because the torsion bar was rust welded inside it. Control arm in the down position ( tire off the ground) means there is less torsion on the bar. Do not attempt to remove any torsion bar unless all tension is removed beforehand via the anchor arm bolt. If its a clean snap then there is no torsion.

Ozz. Pat here again. Just two Q - my one T bar was snapped off or it looks broken off like the one in your Video. Q-1 do I need to replace both sides A and B?. Q-2 should I get a wheel Alignment? thank you Pat
@ozzstars_cars8 жыл бұрын
+Pat Stevens remember the torsion bars are different part numbers, left and right side. You can just replace one side only. If you do both sides think of it as saving yourself a future headache when the other one snaps. The bar that is NOT snapped will have lots of tension on it, use caution if you chose to change it. Yes you should set the height as close as possible to the 'good' side and get an alignment.

My BABY! Drove mine new off the lot in August 01 ! All in all, a pretty damn good 19 years. Next ones gonna be a 4Runner though, Nissan's lost their flaming minds these days. Renault? Really??? Sad.

Hi Ozz. Great Vid! Quick question. When installing the t-bars back in, do you start by mounting it to the front first (lower control arm) then mount and attach the assembly arm? Thanks again and thanks for the vid.
@ozzstars_cars8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment. The back of the T-bar is slide in first to the adjustment arm the forward to the control arm. its a little bit tricky but once you are there its easy to fiddle it in.

I hope you can help, I'm having a hell of a time finding a tortion bar passenger side. I have the 2002 Nissan Frontier 4x4 SE Crew Cab, V6. Are these parts the same for my vehicle?
@ozzstars_cars8 жыл бұрын
Sorry I don't have a part source for the torsion bars. It's going to be a hard one to find, if you saw the part of the video where I talked about sourcing a replacement torsion bar. There are aftermarket companies, an internet search is going to be your best friend! Good luck
@chriscarnevale6286 жыл бұрын
Gary Sappier CALMINI has them on there website they are heavy duty ones to lift the front of the truck but if you don’t crank them to hard they should be fine

If the torsion bar itself isn't broken, should it be easy to remove? I am worried about not being able to remove the torsion bar itself without cutting or damaging it. For me, the adjuster bolt stripped out because someone didn't install it right before I bought it.

You MUST RELEASE the TENSION before removal! Take it to a professional shop if necessary.

Did you watch the entire video? 3:25 mark it is clearly shown. The torsion bar has splines and slides in the torque arm which bolts to the lower control arm.
