This looks worth it for the ring modulation alone; have you used it much as a 'straight' FX unit with live input?

Many thanks! So can the S4 apply synthesis/fx to incoming audio which can then be modulated live while playing guitar for example or must audio be recorded and played back order to access the fx and granular synthesis?

That visual feedback is needed there to show the modulation on the filter, as well as the audio spectrum
