Lol! My tortle’s name is also Franklin. Franklin Ornata, because I modeled him after the ornate box turtle, Terrapene ornata. He’s 65 (he led his full life and went to sleep, expecting to never wake up), but didn’t die and is still living somehow and he later somehow found himself in the astral sea and came in contact with the magic weave and is now a wild magic sorceror. He doesn’t remember much because of his dementia due to his age, plus the weave frying his brain. All he remembers of the astral sea are vague recollections of travelling with a Gith ship and seeing horrors from the great beyond that give him horrible ptsd. He also likes butterscotch and giving his companions a hard time and complaining about millenials. Now he works at a special security service for the kingdom and doing some good before his time has come. He’s tired and ready to depart the world, but at the same time curious about his new powers, which he struggles to control.

My barbarian tortle is name Captain Tuttle. The way of the Beast makes her look like Bowser. First session party wizard levitates her in to the air and drops her on the boss. 450lbs of raging tortle. Later the party decided to catapult her into the fort. Into the shell and away she when. But they missed an sent her into the tower with the boss. Alone. Glad she could climb at that point with Beast. She is fun to role play.

My first D&D character ever was a tortle named Dino. I'm a few months into playing as him in my first campaign, and I absolutely love it! He's a bard that likes to bend the rules a bit, as he was taught to be a bit more chaotic than most tortles by his two former orc bandmates from his days as a traveling musician. He really brings out my inner child (I'm 20) and I cannot recommend picking a tortle enough for any player, whether they be a newcomer like myself or even a seasoned veteran!

My sister is going to be running "The Wild Beyond the Witchlight" campaign. My fiance and I are playing elderly Tortle sisters. (For personality think of the movie Barb and Star go to Vista Del Mar, or Rose from the Golden Girls.) We are doing completely opposite classes for a little sibling rivalry... He is playing a Warlock and I'm playing a Paladin. We are going to be super chatty grandma's who are the biggest tourists here to explore the Feywilds. I'm naming mine Fern, he is still deciding between Clover or Chicory.

As a DM, I fuckin hate the 50 year old age limit and thus in my campaigns, I forego the age limit on tortles and bump it up to 150.

Made a tortle who is a moon druid named tirtwyn. He turns into different reptiles and dinosaurs down his family tree like some reptilian genetic martial art. So each time I used wild shape it was another branch in his family tree translated into his family's wierd martial art. Ex: Velociraptor Kempo; conjure animals to summon a pack of velocirapoters turn into a velociraptor and just pack tactics a dude to the ground. That was in honor his great uncle-grandpa Velociswarmus the Velociraptor

If your a spell caster retreating into your shell is great. You get advantage on constitution checks. And if your in the back line not only do ranged attacks not have advantage but actually they have disadvantage against you when your prone.

I just made a Tortle TWF Ranger strength build, will take the Dual Wield feat because it is joining at lvl 5. Gave him a warhammer, warpick, and a battleaxe for varied damage in the case of resistances. First game is Friday.

Idk how practice this actually is, but I think if you were playing a tortle caster and concentrating on something strong, AND also have a mount that you could feasibly do this on (despite being mechanically allowed could you imagine a prone tortle successfully riding a horse?) but in this very specific case I think shell defence is actually really useful.

I would think withdrawing into your shell would break line of sight, rendering most concentration effects moot...unless it's like a self-buff

That would have to be a really strong horse, Tortles weigh hundreds of pounds with their big shells...

In a fog cloud, or in darkness without dark vision, advantage and disadvantage cancel out. Not only dose this make up for one of shell defences costs, but lowers the opportunity cost of doge as it would do nothing here. Also since you already can’t take reactions in your shell, consider using your action to ready action your shell retreat. That way if your never targeted that round you don’t have to use your bonus action the next turn, and can potentially use your reaction for something else as well.

I think, after Tasha's comes out, a tortle bladesinger will have an ungodly AC. Stick that +2 into INT and you'll have a 20 AC while bladesinging at level 2, which can jump by 5 if you need to cast shield. When you finally get your 20 INT, you'll be able to bump it up to 22, and this is a lot easier since most bladesingers need to worry about bumping DEX also, while you can safely dump it.

Friend: do it Me:*goes into shell* Friend: I roll to pick up tortle Dm: umm ok Friend:*rolls a Nat 20* DM: ok you pick him up. Friend: then I throw him at the mob DM:what?
