That time lapse is a really good showing of just how much they agitate the soil around the nesting ground to throw off predators.

It made me kind of jealous, my own backyard is full of pits and bumps, they would easily straighten things out... I was impressed they do this in such a short amount of time... ;)

I never grow tired of watching you dig up the tortoise nests. Lobo is doing great!! When he jumps on you like that, tell him "OFF". Down is for when you want him to lie down. He did a very good sit, tho. For not knowing dogs, you are doing a great job training him.

Hi Kenan She is such a good mom. The time lapse was great. She did not want you to dig up her eggs. 36 is a lot of eggs. Lobo is well behaved. Sorry about the black throat eggs. But Jerry always good luck we with my the breeding. Soon you may have another clutch soon. I like to see you did up the eggs. You are such a good turtle dad.🐊🦎🐍🐢♥️Cindy

Ignoring is the best approach imho, they do this for attention, when they realise it doesn't work, they stop... Problem is that other people need to do the same... I have a dog that doesn't jump at me, but does jump at everyone else, since they give her attention... Telling her off doesn't do anything in this case, she just waits until my attention to her is lacking before doing so... (In other words: I can control my dog, but I can't control other people... :()
@jebVlogs5562 жыл бұрын
@@oretho6406 that's a very good assessment. I ignore my staffy dog but everyone else doesn't and he knows he can get away with others. If I tell him to leave the kitchen,he looks at me,tail between his legs,head down and walks slowly away. Again everyone else he either runs away from them than comes back or just sits there and blatantly ignores them.

Love the egg collecting videos. I finally got a tortoise of my own. I thought I always wanted a sulcata, but living in CO, that's not optimal. I ended up getting my dream tort, a stunning 3 year old Western Hermann's I named Daloris the Tortoise. Or Dale for short. Didn't want a baby though and it took a while to find a subadult Western Hermann's. Now I get to build her an outdoor enclosure for spring - fall. 6x2 chicken run and 2x2 hut.

Sulcatas are so prolific, I'd consider letting them hatch naturally. I remember once you said that wild hatched eggs produce much hardier tortoises. Of course if you are depending on the babies to provide income, then it makes sense to maximize the survival rate.

It’s because of quarantine and diseases they carry that could affect our fauna. We only have terrapins in Australia.

Really! I guess since they can’t kill or maim a human tortoises aren’t allowed... lol Still seems odd there are no tortoise species “down under.” I know Australia doesn’t import/export animals but aren’t there some breeding in captivity since before the ban? That’s how we in the US get the cockatoos and other Aussie species.

*There’s a colony of nesting Gopher Tortoises on the land next to my brothers house in So. FL with an interesting back story. The owner of the property (a wealthy dude from China) lost all the land - several acres & received a HUGE fine for filling several tortoise burrows with cement! Bro blew the whistle on the goofy dude (almost kicked his butt too...lol!) A ranger buddy made bro aware the property is now a “wildlife conservation area” and will never be developed. The guilty perp -now landless AF was also forced to excavate every tortoise burrow he attempted filling w/concrete!* *I’m surprised that creep didn’t catch & cook the tortoises! They frequently bust asian food markets in Chinatown here in NYC for selling chelonians illegally as comestibles. Kenan has several turtles from past confiscations.* *In fact a couple years ago several asian women were also arrested for fishing out newly released aquatic turtles from Brooklyn’s Prospect Park Lake. Due to concerns about overcrowding the animals had just been relocated from the pond in the Bklyn Botanic Garden. All the turtles were re-released in the lake and the offenders received stiff fines & community service penalties.* _Some jerks just never seem to learn!_
