You mention going for walks and picking stuff but my main concern is pesticides because councils all over the UK spray em. Curious as to what you think since you pick stuff because I'm currently running out of everything fresh in my back garden so it's got me worried as to what to feed my baby russian right now. It doesn't like the dried pellets or anything, he'll literally only eat fresh, and can't live off of lettuce either haha Thanks for the help!

Autumn and Winter in Europe is a compromise when it comes to feeding a natural diet. You will have to reply a little more on the added fibre supplements mentioned in this video mixed with bought produce such a water cress, lambs lettuce, rocket, romaine or baby gem. In reference to pesticides you can ask your local authority what their procedures are for areas they chose to treat. You can also consider asking friends with wild gardens and allotments for assistance.

Awesome video! I have a question. How often do you feed your tortoise?
@tortoise_matters10 ай бұрын
Hi it depends on the time of year, ages and species of the tortoise. Season change is important when keeping a tortoise along with heat, humidity and health of the animal. It is currently spring and the tortoise are getting fresh food 5 days a week, but they are a bit slower and not eating it as readily. Two days a week they are left with dried left overs and what they can find in their outdoor enclosures. I'll try and do a video to illustrate diet variation soon :) thanks for the question.

Keep offering a mix. It can take 6months to a year to convert a tortoise to a healthy diet they will readily eat

How do I know the weeds won't be bad for him
@tortoise_matters3 жыл бұрын
If a plant is highly toxic to a human it will be for a tortoise. anything with a bulb, wax leaf or cabbage family must be avoided. There are lots of plant ID apps you can now use to give you piece of mind. the plant groups on FB are also there to support you if you are unsure. growing tortoise safe seed mixes is also a good one. Linda Kinds weed ID book from ebay is a good field guide colour book great if you are really nervous. hope this helps.

Can a tortoise in banana leaves
@tortoise_matters Жыл бұрын
Depends on the breed? Tropical possibly. mediterranean definitely no as they wouldn’t find this in the wild, so best avoided. Larger and rougher leaf plants when edible tend to be of interest to giant breeds of tortoise. Hope this helps.
