Tortorella completely lost his mind

In 2004, the Tampa Bay Lightning went through a tough battle with the Flyers in the Eastern Conference finals and wound up becoming Stanley Cup Champions after beating the Flames. They were lead by head coach John Tortorella in a year he won the Jack Adams. So Tonight, as the Philadelphia Flyers came into Tampa, it was a special one.
Not only did the Lightning celebrate the 20 year anniversary of that 2004 Stanley Cup Championship, with Torts in town, it was also a bit of a reunion. So with guys like Lecavalier, Boyle, Richards and Andreychuk in the building, it was only right that we got a classic, all timer from John Tortorella on the bench. After a terrible start to the Bolts, giving up an early goal, getting a few bad penalties including a 10 minute misconduct from Hathaway, he let the referee Wes McCauley hear it. Sure enough, the trigger happy McCauley then ejected him from the game just 10 minutes into the first period. Needless to say, he completely lost his mind. He refused to leave the bench and cussed like a sailor in the process. It was an instant classic. As for the game, it was one to forget for the Flyers but I cover it all in todays NHL video!

Not the biggest of Torts fan, but I absolutely hate Refs lack of accountability in this league. They can do what ever they please as if they are not human too and can't be biased or wrong. Anyone says one word to stand up for themselves and it's a fine. It's completely bogus and the worst part of this league. In this case, the ref should have had a game misconduct too but instead he gets to turtle behind the league. Torts was entertaining though and I got a good laugh out of it.

The 10 minute misconduct doesn't give the other team a power play for 10 minutes... the player just can't play for the next 10 minutes. Actually not a bad call considering he could have got a 2 minute and his team shorthanded.

I saw a lot of people posting on Social Media about how unprofessional Torts was being and I defended him telling people in response that the Refs in this game were horrible, like I mean maybe the worst I've seen and that's saying something. Wes McCauley took this way too far and personal and made it all about himself instead of being a professional and going over and atleast giving Torts the professional courtesy of speaking to him before he turned it all the way up to an ejection. Im not a fan of either team mind you so I dont have a dog in this fight. Wes has had a nice reel of highlights where he is funny to people but personally I think he's one of the worst in the entire league. He always seems to be one of the offficials present in games that have bad calls. The league really needs to look into this much more deeply than just the reactions.

Man oh man... that was entertainment at it's finest in that game! Torts doing Torts things... he'll live on in infamy long after he is gone from behind the bench of the Flyers! LOL

Classic Torts 😂 Honestly, he was right to be PO'd. 10 minutes is really excessive for a shove. League's too soft these days, and the officiating is god awful.

The way it works in a lot of younger and less serious leagues, if a coach or fan who is thrown out and refuses to leave, the clock will run and play will not resume until they leave. This is most effective when their team is down in the score, but that is the rule regardless of who is winning

Always appreciate a Vassy SO. Too few and far between these days. Always liked Tort's passion if not his personality. I was a Bolts fan long before 2004 so Tort will always enjoy a warm place in my sportsman heart.

I relate with him. Just lost 6-1 in eashl outshooting the opp 24-7 with some beauty looks on both sides. Regardless of that it makes my blood boil to an unhealthy level and I’m just fucking around having fun can’t imagine what it’d be on the pro level with your lively hood on the line

I love the passion that Tortorella has. He had every right to be upset at the officiating. They get super offended when someone calls them out for being shitty at their job though, so thats why Tortorella got ejected from the game.
