The first time I ate squid sashimi, I swore I tasted BUTTER. It was slightly crunchy and chewy at first but after a few chews, it felt like it *melted* in my mouth. It was salty and a bit sweet too! Definitely my favorite seafood.

This was my first time watching one of his videos. I admit, the mermaid ending caught me completely off guard.
I love your videos but it’s truly heartbreaking to see something butchered alive….. I understand it’s a different culture and I respect all cultures but super hard sometimes to understand the purpose of the live torture 😭
@buzza20772 жыл бұрын
Yeah that's horseshit. Their culture has advanced with time. He is broadcasting on KZbin so he can euthanize before butchering. They act like they have great respect for animals but they don't.
@bozzskaggs1122 жыл бұрын
It's a heavy load to respect all cultures unless one has absolutely no personal morals or values. I don't disrespect Japanese culture, in this case, but I neither embrace nor reject every aspect. I have no room to accept or even make apology for the Chinese who torture a dog before killing and eating it. There's no good reason not to dispatch the squid or any other sea critter before cleaning, filleting or cooking with the exception of the puffer used for fugu. There is room to argue that if the only way to eat this one fish is to keep it alive until the last part of cutting is accomplished then let them swim and eat a shrimp.
@Albert-rl7tx2 жыл бұрын
Well, being a Japanese myself, I’d say we have no shortage of cruelty, especially towards food. “活き作り“ literally means “prepare while alive”, if you’re familiar with that infamous bullfrog ikizukuri, you’d know. If u don’t, I strongly suggest that you don’t look it up.
@pattypierce27722 жыл бұрын
@@Albert-rl7tx can I ask if you partake in this type of cuisine? I have family from Korea but my cousins are all born in America. I have never had the privilege of traveling outside of the USA to experience anything else other than the cultures that I have available here. However I cant remember having anything alive while at my family gatherings.

@@davidvincent8929It doesn’t feel pain the same. They feel pressure discomfort and have reactions. It’s not the same as cutting into a human. They go into shock almost immediately so even if they did feel pain the same they wouldn’t feel it after a few seconds. It’s also NOT ALIVE. It’s called nerves. They react to the salt and acid in lemon and soy sauce. Moving doesn’t mean it’s alive So no, we don’t care. Shits delicious ❤ 💕♥️💗

@@splitdragon3004 also not to mention you're literally just wrong, cephalopods have extremely developed nervous systems, they feel pain and suffering. Also I don't think this youtuber HAD to prepare it alive, I believe it was just for show but like... why??? I agree squid is delicious, but why support torturing it and delaying the inevitable, just kill it and get it over with.

@@hydra2019 that is... fine. I just wish there was less waste in the world. if we are eating a animal I wish we utilize as much as possible. don't like guts/bones make fertilizer, and other biproducts and its okay to me. its a extremely sad process especially if you bond with a animal but ultimately they don't give us crap besides food. I dont see myself taking a whole cow for a walk nor do I see its fecal matter going over roads, or neighbors property being something anyone really wants to deal with. No matter how you look at things nothing really matters, and it was literally bred to die and give nourishment, so let it fulfill its purpose. we as humans are literally designed to live, mate and die.. also to hunt and gather but we made that whole process too easy. moral of the story just don't care so much and live your life to the best of your ability and enjoy the foods you enjoy vegan, vegetarian or omnivorous. if vegan laugh at us if we die sooner idk have fun with it
