I mean, I know of at least two acoustic drummers who are also finger drummers, one of whom goes by the name of David Haynes. To say that that man is nice with it is a gross understatement. And his weapon of choice tends to be the Akai MPC.

I don't know if it's possible to quantify who's better at anything, but I will say that I probably use this thing more like another instrument as opposed to a workstation, which is what other people tend to do. I just kind of think of it as an alternative to an acoustic drum kit, and basically want to help develop it as an instrument unto itself... There's obviously some pushback from the regular drum community but, it's kind of a paradigm similar to that between the acoustic piano and the synthesizer... Anyway, I still really like checking out regular acoustic drummers, that's pretty much all I watch, so whatever I'm doing is informed by actual players of the instrument, to put it succinctly, not so much what people are doing on the electronic music scene.

24:52 heheh sounds like some Mario game w/o any melody. Just a jungle area with lots of traps. nice piece o' gear. I was messing around with drum machines waaaay back in the 80s. The sample quality has improved and pad sensitivity. I don't use them anymore but I use Addictive Drums 2 and a DX7 keyboard to do all my MIDI stuff but I don't really play drums much. I try to find beats from presets but eventually I go in and add stuff etc. keep a rockin.

Wow! This thing looks sweet! And sounds great! Really nice demo and review! 👌 P.S I remember my dad bought me a Yamaha keyboard when I was like 15 or so, around 2000 i think. It was one of the first with proper display. I could tune it and even record 6 tracks + 1 more if I recorded live on top. I used it so much, and made a lot of music. And also, I was blown away by how good the drums were on that keyboard. So I know for a fact that Yamaha really knows these things well.

Really amazing musicality Tory! So impressive. I'm just about to pull the trigger on the Roland HPD-20, but it's so expensive. You've got me thinking about the Yamaha now. I had dismissed it because it didn't have 1/4" connector and didn't seem like a professional instrument, but under your fingers and with your heart and mind, it sounds very professional. Thanks for the demo!

One more thought. The fingers can get to the pads so much faster than hands finger and sticks move across space onto drums. It has a quality of it's own.

Thanks, I used to do everything with sequencing but now it just isn't fun for me to do it that way anymore. Also, when I listen back to recordings or videos or something I get sort of an extra dimension of a kick in realizing that the drums are real time. It's also pretty cool how you can listen to a tune twice in a row and focus on a different instrument etc versus just knowing that it was sequenced and it's kind of ultimately not really an interactive thing

This is first I have heard of this thing. I was a mildly tempted to buy a Roland Handsonic back in the day, but I demoed one and you really had to wail on the pads to get any sound out of it. Alas, they haven't solved the electronic drum Achilles heel of "machine gun" sounds here, but the pad responsiveness and fun factor and affordability still make it kind of tempting :)

@TorySlusher10 сағат бұрын
Thnx. I don't really play regular drum set, although I understand how it works... Haha. I actually did play this live just in a jam starting with some people, it seems to work pretty well... I mean I'm basically just going through the PA system, you can do it different ways, I would imagine using a monitor, like a keyboard amp might work and then you can run out of that or split it at the signal source....

I love it. It's a trap set with tympani should you wish or want? Using fingering as a layout that works and I am sure getting the final layout has been a ride, must be programmable for sure. Training an instrument. I dunno, I don't own one, but it's nice to wonder. I have an old KORG synth that does drum stops, but... This form for fingers is real nice. Tapping shit is definitely your thing. lol

Yeah, ever since I discovered this finger drumming thing I've been into it. This is the first actual unit that I've ever played that I felt like actually is about 99% there, at any rate it is definitely usable as an instrument unto itself, in fact, if you didn't tell anyone that you were using this they probably would think it was regular acoustic drums... In most cases, probably not the audiophiles but, that can be neurotic anyway

Awesome! Love the sounds. I've got an old Boss Dr Rhythm that sits gathering dust, as the 'false" triggering just drove me nuts. I didn't hear a single false trigger in your playing Before really getting into guitar, I played Drums in a Band, and there's something to be said for how the sticks bounce on the skins. Do you play physical drums as well? If you do, are you missing anything critical when playing on the Yamaha FGDP 30? You play it extremely well, and it sounds much better than your other Drum Modeler. It looks like Yamaha did a great job with the pad layout. For guitar, I use an HX Stomp, so I have no problems with Modelers. Do you have any videos where you talk about your signal path/chain, gear, recording software, etc.? Subscribed. You should send a link of this video to Yamaha. I'm sure they'd be delighted and surprised to hear what you can do with their Drum Modeler.🙂

I think either is probably fine, I just didn't really need all the extra functionalities like the trigger pads and the USB slot. I believe you can, I haven't messed around with it because of the layout is rather well thought out as is.
