Went to Quebec almost 2 weeks ago and I found and bought a high end Toshiba BetaHiFi betamax VCR. Same mechanism and works perfectly. I'll do a review on it soon.

Hey Databits, I just got a Toshiba Beta VCR and I just realized it looks exactly like this one inside and outside, except it's silver color instead of black. I also recently got a SONY EV-S2000 Hi8 VCR which is really cool, and a Panasonic VHS VCR with a very cool mechanism, the K deck.

Mine had a bad pinch roller and i sanded the rubber idler wheel and it works great now. I had another dead unit with the same mechanism and swapped the idler wheel and pinch roller. And i had to modify the loading switch because it failed. Now it works great. It might need an alignment but it works great.

Hi! I have an old beta that will load, and start to play...then stop. When I eject the tape, it's chewed up. When I took the top off, it looks like there's just no tension in the tape. My guess is that it's the take up reel..which would mean a bad belt, right? fast fwd and rewind don't seem to do anything...I also heard a little grinding when I ffwd, so possibly a gear out of sync? thoughts? thanks much. The video was great...clear and easy to understand.

Thank god for people recording their hobbies! I bought a beta player quite similar to this : V-5541. It fast-forwards and rewinds OK, but when I try to play it, it doesn't move and then stops. Any tip you could give me before I take it all apart would be appreciated.

Thank God for people who watch my videos! Other than what is mentioned in this video, replace belts and rubber rollers. Good luck!

It was the belt. This unit has a special access just for the belt, and it was a gooey mess. After using denatured alcohol to clean it, it's good as new.

Hi there, I know this video is kind of old now. At 5 minutes into your Test you made a comment that; "I'm going to plug the audio in. Before it only produced static with the other thing plugged in there." What was this other thing? Could you please tell me why the signal was only producing static? I may be having the same problem on my Beta SL-HF500. Thanks so much. This is the first beta I've owned in 35 years! LOL

Well I wish I found that stuff in thrift stores. All I can find is basic VHS VCRs and DVD players.

I have a Toshiba Beta VCR right next to me, a V-M40 which really, really needs some love because it's in pretty bad shape, it has dust inside which is like 7-8 years old lol, also the front panel was victim of a fire, the channel selector is a little bit melted xD.

databits Can I ask you about a spring in the bottom left side of the loading mechanism?, since yours looks like it's the same, it's loose and I don't know where it goes.

My 1979 Zenith Beta II/Beta III VCR is far more complex than this (and much larger and heavier).
