Thanks for the video. I dropped my wife's c850 last week and after replacing the display it tends to black out every 20 seconds or so, giving an error of "graphics driver stopped responding". I updated the radeon driver, and that improved things but the problem remains. I tried booting with a linux live usb and again it still happens so I used your video to open the machine up in the hopes of reseating hardware to solve it... But it seems the graphics hardware is integrated into the motherboard. Damn. Thanks anyway haha

+ThalassTKynn it may be a loose connection somewhere so try and make sure all connections are seated correctly.

Hi, not many videos mention repairs on the Audio plug in connectors. I dropped my laptop on my headphone lead connector and its stuck in the computer. I dont know what damage it has done inside the computer but is it not mentioned because its hard to remove or is it not mentioned because it doesnt do much and can be taken out easily and is it worth me taking it out to prevent possable further damage?

Bernadette Furniss AFAIK it is hard to remove and will require the audio plug to be unsoldered.

the trackpad have a square that looks like a fluffy dirt , i cleaned it but then when i saw your video i realized its part of the hardware .. what is that little squared dirt like spot on track pad is for ? please im so worried (its that little black spot bottom left of the track pad ) and by cleaned it i mean removed it

Hello, I own the C855-2J5 model and I wanted to replace the HDD with a 1 TB Samsung 860 EVO SSD but I'm not sure if my C855-2J5 has SATA 3 connection. How can I know ???

I know this laptop is old now, and people will perhaps have given up on it being any use. I've just used the teardown guide to get me to being able to replaced the processor (Intel Pentium B960, dual core, 2.2 GHz) with a slightly better Core i5-3210M (base 2.5 GHz, Boost 3.1 - dont know yet if it will use that - , 2 cores, 4 threads) . I've popped in 8Gb old ram i had from another laptop, installed a basic SSD drive and installed Pop!_OS. More than capable of doing the basics again. Parts cost me less than £40 on ebay, time taken was about an hour. EDIT: Bios does support turboboost and when enabled i'm seeing max boost on both physical cores

Kriday Rayasam sounds like a different model if there are no screws under the keyboard. Are there any other screws in different locations under the keyboard?

i have a problem with an exact same laptop like this. one of the earphone jacks does not work at all, the other one is faulty. the battery does not last even 2 minutes without actual power plugged in. i know its best to just replace the battery, the laptop is a bit old.

+Raja Mohammed I wouldn't recommend replacing either the CPU or video. The CPU is a possibility but you will need to have the new one conform the to the same thermal specs as the current one.

I replaced the original one after 2 years of purchase with a new one, as it was not giving enough back up. Now the new battery is showing same problems in 3 months of usage! Please help me out...

It the battery a original Toshiba or a third party one? Also is the laptop connected to the power continuously 24/7?

dpcomputing its a third party one. Not always connected, but still yeah, I don't always remove it from charging as soon as it is fully charged!

It may be a dodgy or faulty battery. The not removing from power once charged isn't the best but shouldn't kill in within 3 months.

Hi, I have a Toshiba Satellite C850 PSKC8A. I have damaged the upper body around numberpad (crack next to the PGDN button) and also the bottom case - couple of screws don't stay in any more. Is there a way to replace the body (if I can find a spare one from somewhere that is)?

Yes it should be posible to take everything out and replace it in a new casing.

dean dean ü Could be overheating or maybe one of the startup programs or drivers. Also do a memory test.

dean dean ü is the machine getting hot? If so clean the fan and grill. Test the memory with a program such as www.memtest86.com/

Hi, I got a problem with my Satellite C850-B240 that it suddenly showing me an enter HDD/SDD password screen directly after Toshiba logo, i couldn't remember whether I've set that or not. Now i need to access my laptop without deleting or formatting my HDD, what can i do????

Unplug the device, remove the main battery and also the CMOS battery. Leave for 10 - 20 minutes and then reinstall the batteries. This should reset the BIOS and the password.

Hi David, would you have a video of how to remove the motherboard from a Toshiba C850? Mine is a 1LQ variant and I need to replace the motherboard due to knackered graphics card, which I assume is integrated with the motherboard. Also, before i do this, when I complete the teardown, will the motherboard serial number be visible? Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Hey I was looking to upgrade the components indside my laptop, the same as shown in the video, so far I have added more RAM but I was wondering what else I can upgrade, right now I was looking at changing the prosessor form and i3 to maybe and i5 but im not sure if this is possble

My laptop is a C850-161, RAM is double fro 4 to 8GB, intel core i3, basically all the thing you know, my aim is to be able to play next gen games with a good fps, an example o this is assassins creed black flag which I currently play with a maximum fps of 11, Im not sure what things I can upgrade or where I can find these components

Benjamin Males I'm sorry to say but if you want to easily upgrade components you shouldn't buy a laptop. For graphics intensive games you need a good video card which isn't upgradeable on a laptop.

I wouldn't bother upgrading the CPU as it can be hard to get a compatible model and then their is potential for heat issues.

Yes it is technically possible but you will have to confirm what CPU's BIOS supports (which I don't know) with Toshiba support.

AFAIK there is no actual name (as manufacturers call them different things and it also depends o the type of laptop) but have heard them called bottom bezel, bottom panel, bottom case.

Have you confirmed that all connections are fully plugged in along with anything else you may have moved (ie memory, CPU etc).

Disconnect the CMOS battery for 10 minutes or so and the BIOS should get reset. I point out the location of the battery at 5:08
