I have the same low end laptop. C850-F22U. I've upgraded the RAM to 8GB and HDD to SSD. Now you got me thinking about replacing the CPU.

Please, what ram is it compatible with? Did you use one 8 GB RAM, or two 4 GB RAM each?

My Toshiba gave a "dire heating issues turn off immediately to avoid damage" message and I then spent an hour trying to remove the damn backplate. Ended up using a vacuum cleaner on all external air vents and the issue appears to have gone away but I'm glad to know how to get into it for the next time something goes wrong.

You wouldn't be able to use the CPU in any modern laptop - only a similar age laptop based around the same socket.

I have this laptop. The HDD is right there, huh? Nice that Toshiba made it so you could upgrade the RAM and HDD relatively easily. I should look at putting an SSD or SSHD in it.

Very useful! Do you know a good reference database for finding out which CPU's will work in a particular model? I have the C850-10U which seems to have the FCPGA988 socket, but I'm having a very hard time finding out which other CPU's will fit and work. According to www.lapspecs.com/detail/toshiba+satellite+c850-c855 Intel i5-2450M might work - but it's a real jungle to find this information!

Thanks for the video! I have a question! I got the c850d PSCC2C-012003 for free out of a dumpster! It works BUT the battery does NOT charge. I know it's not the battery because i have the same battery and laptop as well, and both batteries work. Both batts are not recognized by windows when I plug it in while ON and OFF, BUT it does blink AMBER when the battery is inserted with AC plugged in AND when AC is out. I am guessing it's the mainboard and/or a mosfet. Any idea what I could do here? Replace the mainboard? I can get a used one locally for about $40. I am poor student here in Canada during this hysteria! Thnks a lot man!

Few things to check: 1) Is your charger high enough ampage for the machine? Some may run the machine but not provide enough power to charge the battery. 2) Download HWMonitor and check the battery wear level and current capacity. I'd probably still bet on a dead battery given the age of the machine.

@@BrueComputing I tried the battery on another laptop that takes that battery in the battery is fine. I was told I should try checking the fuses underneath the keyboard but that is more intensive

When I opened up my laptop, I noticed that there is also a lose black cable, similar to the white cable on the wifi card. This cable goes into the hinge. What is it and why is it disconnected?

Yes, the CPU is socketed, so you could fit another 'Ivy Bridge' dual-core chip in its place (I don't believe quad-cores will work, but haven't got the machine here to test with). how in the hell do u find bios updates for this?!?! want to replace i3 2350m with i5 3340m and bios is only v1.10 so probly wont work. but bios is Insyde Corp which is the most unheard of chipset manufacturer ever. any help would be much appreciated :)

Got the full model number of your laptop and I'll take a look.

You can search for drivers/firmware here: support.dynabook.com/drivers When I searched for C850 the first option gave me BIOS version 6.50, but not sure it was the exact right model to match what you have.

Your laptop probably has an integrated graphics card within the CPU. In that case there is no GPU to change, other than changing the CPU.

Hi, How to reset the BIOS for this one as i have forgotten the HDD password and now am not able to boot the laptop as the "Enter HDD/SDD Password " screen pops right after Toshiba logo, i can't even enter BIOS options unless i removed the HDD, i did reset all passwords from their but nothing change. now my last resort is to rest the BIOS from jumper? or if you have any other solution please do tell. thanks

The processor can be upgraded easily, as I point out in the video. The graphics card cannot be changed.

@@thegamingdad3462 Download CPU-Z and check to see which chipset you have, hm70; hm67 etc. Then search for that chipset on here ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark.html#@PanelLabel98455 and then click on compatible products. It will then show you all the CPUs that you can use in your laptop

My suspicion would be the quad-core chips won't be supported, only dual-cores.

If you download CPU-z you'll be able to see what chipset your laptop has. The i7 2760qm is supported on the qm67, hm67 and hm65 chipset.

I don't know I'm afraid - often if the laptop wasn't designed with the quad-core in mind then it may not have micro-codes for the quad-core chip. May also not have power circuitry to cope with it.
